Hola amigos, hoy por pura casualidad hice un recorrido por el Vedado habanero, ya que debí hacer un cambio de transporte porque venía de un municipio de la periferia de La Habana y me bajé cerca de la avenida 23 y L, zona emblemática de La Habana de obligada visita para todo el que quiera conocer ésta ciudad.
Durante mi recorrido me tropecé con la Librería Tuxpan, en la esquina de L y 27, a solo unos pagos de las Universidad de La Habana. Esta librería fue restaurada y reinaugurada por el fondo de Cultura económica de México (FCE) y el Instituto Cubano del Libro. Sin pensarlo entré en búsqueda de algún libro interesante. Mi primera impresión fue de sorpresa al ver su amplitud y su poderoso sistema de clima para favorecer la conservación de los libros. La mayoría de los libros pertenecen al FCE. Me llamaron la atención los libros de la temática de ciencias, libros especializados muy valiosos, también había de artes, de música entre otros. Su ubicación es ideal para los estudiantes universitarios de diferentes carreras donde pueden encontrar libros esoecializados según sus intereses. También cuenta con un pequeño salón para hacer las presentaciones de libros.

Hi friends, today by pure chance I took a tour of Havana's Vedado, since I had to change transportation because I was coming from a municipality on the outskirts of Havana and I got off near 23rd and L avenue, an emblematic area of Havana that is a must-see for anyone who wants to get to know this city.
During my tour I stumbled upon the Tuxpan Bookstore, on the corner of L y 27, just a few steps away from the University of Havana. This bookstore was restored and reopened by the Fondo de Cultura Economica de Mexico (FCE) and the Cuban Book Institute. Without thinking about it, I entered in search of an interesting book. My first impression was one of surprise when I saw its spaciousness and its powerful climate system to favor the conservation of the books. Most of the books belong to the FCE. My attention was drawn to the science books, very valuable specialized books, as well as books on the arts and music, among others. Its location is ideal for university students of different careers where they can find specialized books according to their interests. It also has a small room for book presentations.

Me entristeció ver la librería vacía, quizás por la hora temprana en la mañana, también por la temporada de estudios ya que están finalizando el año muchas carreras. Desde el tiempo de la Covid-19 el cronograma de clases cambió y aún no se ha restablecido como siempre fue, de septiembre a julio. Es posible que este año que comienza se logre ajustar a como era antes.

Estaba recorriendo con la vista todos los libros y de pronto me paralicé cuando vi un libro grande que me llamaba a gritos jajaja me acerco y al ver el título lo tuve que agarrar y hojear, un libro supervalioso para los que estudian la enfermedad del SIDA, para los científicos que están investigando vacunas y medicamentos para combatir o evitar la enfermedad, lleno de ilustraciones a color para la mejor comprensión de los procesos bioquímicos que explica y en idioma español, una verdadera joya.

I was saddened to see the bookstore empty, perhaps because of the early hour in the morning, also because of the study season as many majors are finishing the year. Since the time of Covid-19 the class schedule changed and has not yet been restored to the way it always was, from September to July. It is possible that this year that is starting will manage to adjust to how it used to be. I was looking through all the books and suddenly I was paralyzed when I saw a big book that was calling out to me hahaha I approached it and when I saw the title I had to grab it and leaf through it, a super valuable book for those who study the AIDS disease, for scientists who are researching vaccines and drugs to combat or prevent the disease, full of color illustrations for better understanding of the biochemical processes that explains and in Spanish language, a real gem.
Esto enseguida me transportó 35 años atrás cuando empezaba mi carrera de bioquímica y me compré el famoso Lehninger, de 1117 páginas, el libro de cabecera de todo bioquímico. Fue un sueño realizado en ese tiempo, este hecho no lo puedo olvidar nunca. Estaba en clases en la Facultad de Biología cuando uno de mis compañeros trajo la noticia que en la librería de 23 y L, estaban vendiendo el Lehninger. Salimos volando en el primer receso de clases y todos lo compramos, a partir de ese momento estudié siempre por él. Ya esta librería no existe, esa instalación es ahora una tienda de regalos, sin embargo este recuerdo viene siempre a mi memoria cuando paso por ahí.
This immediately transported me back 35 years when I was starting my biochemistry career and I bought the famous Lehninger, 1117 pages, the bedside book of every biochemist. It was a dream come true at that time; I will never forget this fact. I was in class at the School of Biology when one of my classmates brought the news that the Lehninger was being sold at the bookstore on 23rd and L. We flew out in the first row of the first class. We flew out during the first class break and we all bought it, from that moment on I always studied for it. This bookstore no longer exists, that facility is now a gift store, however this memory always comes to my mind when I walk by.
Aún conservo ese primer libro, después obtuve la segunda edición, con mayor belleza, a color y con las novedades que la ciencia le incorporó, pero el primer amor no se olvida, mi Lehninger en blanco y negro es mi tesoro. Después de graduada lo he utilizado para volver a estudiar ciertos temas ayudando a los más jóvenes que se acercaban a mi para que les aclarara dudas.

Me gustaría hablarles de la importancia de estudiar por un libro, el cual puedes hojear, no depende de factores externos relacionados con los dispositivos electrónicos y además los puedes conservar toda la vida si lo deseas.
Si eres estudiante de alguna especialidad no dudes en comprar los libros si tienes las posibilidad.

I still have that first book, later I got the second edition, with more beauty, in color and with the novelties that science incorporated, but the first love is not forgotten, my Lehninger in black and white is my treasure. After graduation I have used it to re-study certain subjects helping younger people who came to me for clarification of doubts.

I would like to tell you about the importance of studying by a book, which you can browse through, it does not depend on external factors related to electronic devices and also you can keep it for a lifetime if you wish. If you are a student of any specialty do not hesitate to buy the books if you have the possibility.

Resultó ser un interesante recorrido, leyendo tu post mis ansías porque la Feria del libro comience se hicieron presente y están multiplicadas. En cuanto la feria santiaguera comience iré a por mi interesante lectura. Gracias por compartir!!

Hola, me imagino que la conexión haciendo de las suyas, no te preocupes, siempre he querido ir a la feria del libro en la Habana, siempre cuentan que es muchísimo mejor que en Santiago, este año no podrá ser pero segura estoy que será pronto, disfruta doble y escoge una muy buena lectura. Saludos

Al final fue conveniente el cambio de transporte puesto que pusiste ver la libra y hacer un miy agradable recorrido. Se ve muy bien la libreria en las imágenes que nos compartes.
