An incredible busy Monday

Hello friends! Today I had an incredible, even a little crazy and a bit trashy day. I had a lot planned.

The main task was to fill the screed in the bathroom in the extension, which my sister and her husband — my brother-in-law — had started at their parents' place where they live. The plans also included trying to foam the roof of that extension with thermal insulation foam to make it thermally insulated. The options, of course, were different: I suggested sealing everything with mineral wool, as I had done before, but they calculated that foam would be cheaper. At least, my brother-in-law insisted on this option, so I agreed.

I tried that foam… and realized that it was oh so difficult. It kept falling off and falling. This is not window mounting foam, but a special one for spraying on a flat surface to insulate roofs. Most likely, the problem was that I didn’t use the nozzles from the kit. My brother-in-law later found them and checked them, but I decided not to risk it, because I had to get down to the main task — the screed.

But before that, trouble happened. In the room above the basement, where potatoes and other vegetables are usually stored, I punched a hole for the sewer with a puncher. Today, my brother-in-law connected a water hose to have water for the solution, but it broke, and all the water poured straight down into the basement... where the potatoes were. Mom had just sorted them: for food and for seeds. The entire crop got wet, and mom was terribly upset - tears were in her eyes. She said: "My day's work was wasted."

Fortunately, everything turned out not to be so critical. We took out the bags, and the weather was nice and sunny outside. We spread the potatoes on the ground, they dried quickly. Yes, it was a bit of extra work, but in the end we saved everything.

Then we started the screed. We mixed the solution by hand, without a concrete mixer — we carried everything in buckets. We also had to deal with the water in the underfloor heating system: we filled it up and turned it up because it was dripping. There had to be water in the system when you poured the screed. But it didn't help completely. We'll have to drain the water on Monday after the screed dries, change the gasket, and reassemble everything.

And we had another grandiose task - to collect carrots and beets, because a week of rain was promised from Monday. Mom had to help. So after my brother-in-law and I finished with the screed, he was fiddling with the water filter, my wife and I started with the vegetables: I pulled the carrots and beets out of the ground, she cleaned and cut the tops. As a result, we completely dug up the beets and about half of the carrots - it made Mom's work much easier for the next week.

So, the day turned out to be really "crazy": problems, nerves, and a lot of physical work. But the main thing is that we managed! And in the evening we even managed to fry sausages to celebrate how well done we were 😊
