The Evil Queen of the Bahamas

In the olden days, before the Bahamas turquoise waters were known for their beauty and peace, an island under the iron hand of Queen Marbella - a woman as cruel as the depths of the sea and the storms of the sea. She wasn't always angry.

Marbella was born into a friendly and noble family and was once a kind girl who loved the sea, birds and songs of her people. However, something darker awakened within her when her parents got lost in a mysterious shipwreck and the throne fell upon her on only 17 thrones. She condemned the seas, the winds, and even the gods, but more than anything, she condemned those who were unable to save their families.

So she turned her sorrow into strength... and her heart became stones. Joy was banned under her control. Rachen was taxed. Fisher had to provide the Royal Palace with the highest of their catch, and those who refused were thrown into coral reef caves to never return. At the highest point on the island, she built a black tower. It seemed like lightning was constantly gathering there on sunny days. Queen Marbella said she had made an agreement with the sea witch who exchanged her soul for the tide. When she was upset, a storm came. When she was unhappy, the ship disappeared.

Even the coral looked to die under her feet. However, the legend tells of a girl named Nya, the daughter of a pearl diver who lost her parents in one of the Marbella storms. Driving her with courage and sorrow, Nya finds an old sea witch whom Marbella had given her strength and asked her to bring her back. Nya faced the Queen ascended to the black tower with a shell dagger and a heart full of fire during the hurricane.

No one really knows what happened in this storm. However, in the morning the sky became clear. The tower was empty. And Queen Marbella was never seen again. To this day, the islanders say that when the ocean is quiet and the stars shine brightly, they can hear the song of Nya in the wind.
