Monetization: Death of Creativity and Rise of Trends

The beauty of the word monetization is that it comes with the great value of making someone's efforts rewarded. It's no longer those times people spent quality time online for nothing. Monetization is a great blessing to many content creators in this era.

While monetization is used for the reward of mankind for efforts invested in creating content, it has also caused lots of catastrophe, as lots of people have turned it into a source of livelihood. I remember before the word monetization became what it is now, we had and watched lots of educational videos and entertainment that were worth one's time.

But these days, the story is different. Most people no longer sit down to think and write something because they have a vital message to pass, or create video content because it has morals or is comic. Anything that will just grab some attention is content; some even go as far as using body entitlement just so guys can follow them to see how they twerk or how big their chest is.

Everyone is now concerned about followers and views, and no longer what really matters. I remember when Facebook started account monetization, so many people switched from posting sensible things to anything that is dramatic, be it meaningful or meaningless. A lot is being done on the blue app all for engagement.

Most people no longer care what anyone thinks, but the money is what matters. If I must be frank, I will say that monetization has really made lots of people lazy. I know a lady whose account just got monetized; she felt like she was in heaven.

She does nothing else but create a short video clip, upload it, and start praying like her life depends on the video going viral. While lots of content creators invest their time in being creative by coming up with original content, so many lazy ones will just wait for it to drop so they can copy it, and the cycle continues.

Contents that require rewards are contents that add value to society at large. But the reverse is the case; the media now reward anything their audience promotes. Some even go as far as creating misleading videos as long as it will trend.

Monetization has changed lives. People have done lots of great things from the money they earned from monetization. It is not completely bad; it is just how the users use it to earn rewards that makes it look like a two-edged sword.

I'm happy because there are still creators who create content because that is their passion and they are not chasing money first. When you see contents like these, you can feel the difference, the creativity, and the originality.

While monetization has made lots of people do some unimaginable things to trend and gain recognition, some see it as their work, and some are very lazy to go out there and look for work even when they know they haven't started receiving much pay. For me, I have the kind of content I watch, and if it does not have any positive impact, is not humorous, or is not passing a message, then I would rather swipe up until I see what is worth my time.
