Are We Really Better Because of Information Era?

It's funny when topics like this come up and some people try to do a comparison. I will always tell anyone comparing today's world to the past that everything is all about determination and effort. There are lots of privileges we have now that weren't in the past but our forefathers strived and made everything out of nothing.

Who doesn't like better things? Gone are those days though when you had to trek for months just to reach another state, relying on elderly people for wisdom, but today is different. Technology and innovation have made things easy, and we now enjoy everything at our fingertips, and easy access to information has changed lots of things in education. These days, we don't have to visit the library to prepare for exams because we have access to everything we want in the library online.

Information is no longer what we have to travel far and wide to acquire. It's now something that is accessible to everyone. This topic reminds me of this movie called "Merlin." Using that movie to represent the past, how the young guy Merlin relied on his textbooks for solutions, but if it were this era we are in, it would have been easier because even the affected would seek information online, and that would make healing and solutions faster.

But regardless of information being more accessible, it doesn't make us anyway better than those in the past. Even with access to much information that can elevate us without paying a dime, many people in our generation still can't utilize this information to make a blessing out of it. Some spend hours online turning the social media that is supposed to be an easy access to their blessing into their blessing sucker.

It's one thing to have something in your possession, and it's another to know how to utilize it. The fact that information is at our doorstep makes us take everything for granted.

Imagine a student having an exam and he is making preparations the night to the exam because he doesn't have to put any effort in sourcing the textbook or anything that would help him because it all just requires subscribing to his phone and using google. Instead of reading these days, we skip pages, finding key words. This still gives those in the past a plus.

Is either some are watching funny content nonstop or trying to engage and settle online family or relationship problems? While information is at our fingertips, the majority of us find this information useless; we take it for granted, and at the end, instead of it being a blessing for many, it becomes for few.

Easy access has its advantages and disadvantages. It's a blessing if utilized wisely. Instead of wasting our time on meaningless content online, if attention is pushed to productive content, easy access becomes a big blessing because we will learn and grow.

When we are able to balance the easy access to information we have, know when we should learn, practice, when to skip unproductive videos, and digest something that would add to our growth, only then can we proudly say that easy access is a blessing.

I still can't say the past was better even if the present isn't better than it. We just have to take what we really need from all the unnecessary information in the world today.

That's just a simple fact, out ability to digest vital information, filter unproductive ones and learn.

You did have a point here. Our predecessors tried so much during their time considering there was nothing to help them make things easier.

But I tell you that change is the only thing constant which technology made possible. Everything is more easier now. And while we are still believing that many are surfing 🏄‍♂️ the internet for unprofitable contents, I also know and have seen many who have excelled through the use of search 👀 information in the internet, especially those who knows the advantage of this era.

Internet is just like two edged sword, it's either you utilize it by learning and growing or you use it without making anything productive out of it.

You are right some people can't focus on one thing when they have internet in their hand. So they should also go library to gain physcially knowledge.
