2024: learning skills is important

It's a great privilege and an opportunity to share with hiveghana the skill I'm very good at and how it has helped me in time past. Learning skill has improved me in my confidence and able to express myself clearly. Learning skill has helped me to engaged my mind and also my body very active. Learning has helped me gain knowledge based on perspective in the world around me.

Before I proceed, I want to say a bigger thank you to my father who has made me to gain a skill and has added value into my life. Of a truth, the willingness of learning new skills has increased my confidence nurture a growth mindset to me. I remember in the year 2006 when I wrote my WACE , my father advised that I should go learn a skill , at first I declined his opinion but he still insisted that I go to learn a skill and he brought out two options for me as a skill for me to choose, one of the skill he mentioned was hair stylist and the second is fashion designer.
I choose hair stylist as a skill And the next week, he went to enroll me in a saloon for 1year and six months. At first I was not serious about learning it, as I find it very difficult to treak a distance from my house to the saloon wasn't comfortable for me as there was no money for my parents to give me to take a commercial vehicle or a bike. Along the line, I developed more interest in learning and going to the saloon because I found a colleague from my location who's also learning the same skill I'm learning and that makes it easier for me. After 7months. I was perfect in fixing nails and eye lashes, Plating of hair of anykind , relaxing of hair , doing pedicure and manicure. While I was going to learn work from my boss saloon, during Sundays, I was making Hair at home and receiving payments. With the little money I was making from home, I was using some for my transport to work and that makes it more easier. One year and six months passed by and I finally graduated from my apprenticeship with honor from my boss madam
In 2008 I wrote jamb and got admission I to the university and after my first semester, I dropped out of school as a result of early pregnancy. My parents were disappointed as a result of my unwanted pregnancy and to worsen the situation, the young man did not take responsibility for his actions and that lead me to face the responsibility on my own.
I have to go to the market and bought a postal paper and paste it on the wall at my house , because I rented an apartment when I was in school before I dropped out of school. With the help of my skill that I learnt , I was able to make some money to register myself for antenatal, got myself some pregnancy outfit and as well as my unborn child dresses. Though it wasn't easy for a pregnant woman to making Hair . Because of the hours of of standing and hours of non resting . But I was still glad because if not for my skill, will I be able to fit my own bills at such a crucial time for me? No, it would have been more worst having pregnancy without anyone caring for me. And even up till now, I'm still using my skill to generate money. I'm a graduate but I could not get a job , but I use my skill to make money up til now .
There are lots of benefits from learning a skill and I will encourage we mother to fix our children into a skill after their secondary school. And if you are a skilled parent working from home, always educate your children about your skill so that they can get use to it before even graduating from secondary school. Like me for instance, my first daughter is a girl and when ever I'm making customers hair, she's learning one or two things from it and sometimes, she assist me in finishing customers braiding hair and that makes my work faster when ever she's around my office. With this, it's obvious when she gets to the university, she can be making hair for student in her school and while she studies as well. Learning of skill is good and encouraging 🙌
