The Second Battle to be a singer, Ed
Before the idea of singing occurred to him, Ed lived in the same routine that he himself described as very militarized. You see, for years he served in the army, especially during his youth. So he was used to doing everything in a strict order. And once he got home he continued with this order, so his family, although not in the military, was used to being treated in a way that we would say was special when he arrived. Because he was used to directing. So they preferred to ask him for permission for many things. Of course he always tried to put his work aside at home, so he often told his wife and son that they didn't have to ask him everything to do it. Nevertheless, they still treated him with a lot of respect. He was a very respected general.
I told you before that he later decided to be a singer. Well, while he was still in the military, he liked music, but especially singing. In the barracks you could sing for fun, so he sometimes did it there. But obviously everything is very reserved, a high-ranking military man is not well seen in that situation. So he couldn't sing everything he wanted or at the time he wanted to do it. So that's where the first problem was created. It was like living 2 impossible lives at that time, he couldn't be a singer while he kept that position. Every day it was the same if he didn't remember that there was something in life beyond orders and regulations. With time, he asked to retire from the military. He had no problem doing so because he served his country for decades so he could do it if he wanted to.
When he retired one afternoon he was leafing through a magazine, in that magazine he came across an interview with a singer who had started from scratch, after having retired from the army and now he was doing very well. So he wondered if maybe he could try something new, something that would make him start from scratch too, and well the idea of singing was already there so one thing led to another and he decided to take action. But not everything was as simple as it seemed, because Ed had someone very important in his life, his son. It's not that at first the idea of being a singer seemed like a problem, but as the idea became real, his son's presence became noticeable. At first, he wasn't even mentioned much, he was just a detail in everyday life, a boy who followed his path among video games.
Over time, however, tension began to grow. Ed's son, who until then had seen his father as a military man, was disconcerted to see that the man who had always represented security now wanted to be a singer. The thing is that he was proud of him and now seeing him lower himself to the level of such a prestigious position made him feel bad. This contradiction made the family atmosphere tense. Ed, for his part, despite his son's opposition, signed up for singing classes, although he never imagined that he would stumble so much with the lyrics or go out of tune at the worst moment. In each session he was seen as a man trying to free himself from the chains of his military past. During this process, he met some people who were important to him.
There was a friend in the classes also with a past full of stories, who dedicated himself to playing the guitar and who offered him advice with a lot of technique. He used to be in the Navy, so they understood each other very well. There was also an old man who was the cook in a neighborhood restaurant. But now he wanted to be a guitarist. You could say that the three of them got along very well. Because each one was starting from scratch. The good thing about meeting these two friends was that he could see that he himself was not an isolated case because many others also left their lives behind to start from scratch to find what they liked the most.
The classes continued for about 14 months, more than a year. So it was quite a long time. In all those months he met many more friends. Some dropped out of the course because they couldn't take it and others like him were still struggling to learn. When he was ready at the singing school they gave him a diploma to prove that he had completed the course with honors. When he got home the family was very happy to see what he was achieving. But of course everyone except his son Lucas. He was still resentful of seeing his father change careers. So Ed had to sit down with him and explain to him that he was doing this because he wanted to improve himself and that the life of a soldier is not everything in life. It took a lot of convincing him that this was the right thing to do but in the end he was able to do it.
Now that he had convinced his son and had completed the course he felt ready to begin his career as a singer. It had been months of hard training to learn everything that being a singer entails. But at last he was ready. It is true that life as a soldier was more respectful and gave him authority, but what mattered to him was to follow his death and his dream. Now is the time for him to begin this career, and the success he has will depend on always striving to prioritize his dream and his desire. And remember that it is never too late to start over like Ed.
