Vaccines: A Fight We Prepare For.

I think I was just about five years old when I first got vaccinated, I can very well remember that day, It was a sunday morning durimg service in church, this set of medical practitioners came over and did some lectures and promised to come back the following sunday to carry out the procedures, they came as they promised, and believe me, everywhere scattered, I was among the kids that ran away, I went ro hide near the alter, under a chair, well I was later dragged out and I cried my eyes out.

Maybe I don't like anything that has to do with the niddle then, but as far as I can really remember, I prefer the needle to taking pills. After receiving the vaccine, they gave my mum some sort of card I think, she kept it inside her bible like it was some prayer point she will be praying over.

Then, there a lot of stories circulating around about vaccines, some are against it, I heard some say it's an evil plot by the government to do awsy with us, some say it's devilish..a mark of the beast, some accepted it was for protection snd for our own good. But me, what I know and noticed is that children who get vaccinated didn’t fall as sick as often. Even though my mum was not so learned, talkless of knowing anything abiut science, she is a mother who loves preventing her kids from potential risks, I guess that's ehy she gave in for us to get the vaccines.

After reading and going through certain books and all, I got to know that vaccines are meant to give the body a preview of a fight it may never have to fight, just so to be able to fight it if it ever comes the body way. And I believe that beyond medicines and all, vaccines are for the sole purpose of preparing the body if the real fight should come.

You know, just like we all go to school today, to learn and arm ourselves with knowledge of things we may or we will later need in life, same way vaccines are, its us arming/preparing our immune system for when trouble shows up, so we won't or so it won't meet us empty handed, penetrate and wreck havoc on our health.

We've battled a lot of things in the world today, in Nigerka alone, we have faced and are still facing a lot, and we still haven't stopped fearing vaccines despite all we've seen. And, I think I know why, the reason is that, fear has overtook facts, we've heard a lot of stories, some say it(vaccines) causes infertility, some say it introduces new disease into the bidy system, there are some that belief vaccines are experiments on African bodies by the west to reduce our population. This and a lot more hsd been passed down from one generation to the other. So, I can't really blame them for being doubting Thomas...tell me, who won't fear what they don't know/understand.

During COVID-19 a lot of questions, conspiracy theories, broadcasts and all arose which led to global panic. It was way later before I got to take my shot, I really took my time before I did. Those things we were meant to believe while growing up came back to me, a friend of mine even got sick after getting vaccinated, that increased my fear...

But later on, I went for it, i think we took it two or three different times, I can't really recall, and after taking it, a neighbor of mine was just all about murmuring, I didn't even know how she got to know, she said I am being used too, she said I have been magnetized... I knew she won't listen to me or hear if I decide to mske her understand, I know her too well, so I just smiled and went into my apartment.

The thing is, vaccines ain't magic, they don't make one immortal and all, but they help reduce risk, they reduce the effects and I believe prevention is better than cure, that's exactly where vaccines comes in. And, I believe in vaccines, I’ve seen what happens when we don’t have them, I've heard of communities that outbreaks happen to and wiped them off, I've seen young lives end from these things that could have been prevented with just one or two shots.

I believe in the science of vaccines, but also, a lot still needs to be done, people should be educated and awareness should be done on the importance of vaccines. They should be made to understand that since they value their lives so well, it wouldn't make sense to lose it out if ignorance or to lose it out of the fear of what they know nothing about....
