Surviving Nigeria.

Talking of earning in Nigeria,it isn't in anyway easy, not to talk of earning more. It's hard, more like trying to squeeze water out of a stone. To make or to earn here, you have to be very very persistent, consistent, creative and a whole lot out together. The truth is there's money in Nigeria, just that it's not circulating in the direction of the average Nigerian.

Our system is corrupt and it's designed in a kind of way to not really make anyone rise that easily. Working for private or government is same, your salary is nothing to write home about. Just recently a retired civil servant told me he's earning #6,400 as pension per month, I was wowed. That's not enough to even fill up a 6kg gas cylinder not to talk of buying foodstuffs and other things. Those working in company's and all aren't any different, the pay isn't enough for transportation, talkless of feeding or sending kids to school.

That's why today, you see a whole lot of us (Nigerians) running multiple business, hustling around, you see a school teacher doing extra lessons for students, still being a tailor and all. Some do office work in the day and resume night duty somewhere at night, maybe as a security, in a hotel....just to make ends meet. It's no longer about ambition down here, it's all about survival.

I as a person, first off I teach, it's one I just go though, aside that I write, am a chef, I do ushering works with it too, I am also into making various frame designs and all. You can hardly find a Nigerian who rely only on one source of income, I doubt if you can anyone who rely on two source of income as well. Even with all of our hustle and all, it's still not enough. The system is just so bad. Salaries hardly increase here and still you find the cost of house rent doubling and all.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't give ourselves credits too, cause we really deserves it. We(Nigerians) are one of the most resourceful people on this planet. We do all kind of things without being ashamed, we sell, trade, create and all. We can't deny the help social media has done also by opening doors for a lot of people to do contents, blog and many more. Even still, not everyone has access to it. A lot of us still lack digital skills enough to compete globally, there's the issue of electricity, data subscription is high, foodstuffs price is on the high side.

And what can we say, it's not entirely our fault. Our leaders (Bad governance) has a part in all of these things. The rich keeps getting richer while the poor keeps on sinking down. Talking of inflation and the likes, recently I heard there would be some sort of new tax rule on the citizens to pay 10% of their earnings, not very sure about that yet, I doubt it's a rumor though.

Come to think of it, we are still trying to find a way out for ourselves and the government is still bent on extorting us the more. Isn't it disheartening to see a graduate earning less than a politician's wardrobe allowance. Isn't it disheartening to see a hardworking graduate being unemployed while an SSCE holder is holding a significant political position and adding nothing to the economy other than claiming to be a self acclaimed professor.

All of these and many more makes us question if hardwork still pays and if education truly is the key in this country, or that what's just needed is maybe luck or connections. Even with all of that, I love our spirit, we still keep on moving, never giving up, people keep on learning various trades, doing business, teaching, freelancing, learning skills and all, because we can't just afford to sit down idle, else we sink.

So talking of how easy it is to earn more in Nigeria, sincerely l, it is not easy. It takes a while lot of things to even earn not to talk of earn more. It takes grit, strategies and even a bit of madness to survive in this country (sorry if they language sounds off). What I love most about Nigeria is the fact that, no matter the situation, we will always find a way, we may be struggling to earn and earn more, but we will never stop fighting to live better.

Yeah, our leaders have the bulk of the fault in the way we earn and this can be connected to the way the economy if this country is be handled. Thanks for sharing.
