From Fear To Gratitude: My Near Miss With Danger.
I remembered something this evening and it happened to be a day I would forever remember.
I wasn’t supposed to take a keke napep that evening, a bike would have done better, as the place am headed to is a little bit far with various turns, but rain is almost doing it's thing, and I had to be there, so a keke came by and I waved it down, and it stopped.
I got in and on our way, they started talking and gisting, am not the type who talks or contribute to dialogues in public transports, so I just sat there, not really paying attention to them, I just had to be in church in time, the president called earlier that he won't be available and I should take over for him, if not that I wouldn't have come or would have really taken my time, the rain can even be an excuse for me.
At a point, I noticed everyone had gone silent, why, but well, it happens, maybe there's nothing else to say about Nigeria than just to keep hoping for a change.....some minutes later, I started hearing a strange smell, they heard it too, and we all felt somehow, where's this smell coming from, the two passengers and the driver brought out their nose masks to cover their nose saying it might be the gutter, or that maybe something has died in the bushes around.
That particular road is a very quite one, and at a time I started feeling suspicious, why are they all with a nose mask, why were they all gisting and stopped suddenly, I looked around, nothing seems suspicious, but something wasn’t right.
Since I wasn't at peace again, I felt what could I do, that area is dangerous, I can't decide to drop, if I do, I don't know how long I will have to wait till another keke come by, also my phone is off already, what can I do, I was so disturbed in me.
While still thinking, one of the passengers addressed me and asked if am fine, I said I am, he looked at me some way, and started cursing at me.....something like.. why have I not slept of, am I a bad market, whats this nonsense, seems they would have to fling me off or better still just hurt me inside the keke like that....fear had gripped me, I couldn't respond, I was just saying some prayers inside of me.
At that moment, I remembered every movie scene I had watched where someone got abducted and never returned, I remember all those bad news of people being kidnapped and found dead or without some body parts.. My phone is off already.
I was glad they didn't think of doing anything nasty earlier, they just hope I would sleep of before getting to the busy roads, fortunately for me and unfortunately for them, we were just few seconds to the busy roads, and traffics are beginning to gather, the driver just looked back at me and told me once "come down", you would think I had been expecting that before, I did not even hesitate, Immediately my feet touched the ground with trembling obedience.
And they sped off into te already choking traffic, I couldn't see a plate number on the keke, how do I report it, I was glad I wasn't hurt neithernwas I robbed, I am yet to get to my destination, but that does not really matter at this point, at least I am safe..body, soul and spirit, no harm.
I stood there in the m middle of the road, dumbfounded, sweats had began to gather on my forehead, I was grateful to God, I picked myself up and looked around and thought * And I will still take a public transport to where am going o*, I took a bike this time and dropped in front of our student fellowship, they were in the praise session... And within me, I know this evening would be different already and the prayer points....don't even joke with it
And ever since then, have been very careful with public transports, even still I encountered one less than a year ago now..thats a story for another though, I don't know why I did not sleep off like they expected, I don't know what else skipped their mind and they regretted not doing, but please...always trust your instincts, be aware of your surroundings, be vigilant, be prayerful.
