Community Clean up: The Oja Oba Edition.
I haven't been posting here for a very long time now, but then, it now seems I will have more reasons to be present here.

So, I happen to be the new CDS (Community Development Service) coordinator for the sanitation unit. There are other units such as the Road safety and the likes. There a lot of services we render. From doing awareness on various topics like hygiene and the likes, but most of the time, what we do is pick a particular location each week and go there to clean up.

So, as the coordinator for the CDS sanitation, I'm always in the middle of everything, from the planning, to the location and even to the actual work.

This week, we went to a place called Oja Oba, it's a market. We jad to go there very early in the morning before the market owners will arrive, but then we still met a lot of people around. Well all know what a market looks like here. So, we decided that the market should be our spot to clean from this week and I'm glad everyone showed up.

We noticed that the corners were the most dirtiest place, so we decided to go through the corner, divided ourselves so that the work will be much more faster, and we agrees to to meet at a point in the next few hours. We got nylons and used cartons from the market people so we could drop the first inside.

We were glad the market women loved what we do, some showered us with prayers, some even helped. And, sincerely it felt good to see that they really appreciate our efforts in cleaning up such a public space.

And sincerely, by the time we were done. Even we knew we've tried. And I can't deny that community work really matters. I didn't want to do this then, a whole me, picking dirt around and cleaning up, that was my thought then, but now I'm always in the forefront. Actions like cleaning, packing wastes and all makes a difference and help makes our environment tidy and neat. And I'm proud our CDS group is the one doing that and bringing the change.
