Catering Gigs To Camp Drills: My Travel Story.

avatar

The last travel I went, was just last week tuesday. It wasn't a vacation or an adventure, I went for work together with our catering crew for one of our usual gigs, it was a burial ceremony though, and it was a big one at that, imagine a burial ceremony that was meant to hold on Friday and we've started cooking since on tuesday morning, what's good about it also, is that our boss wasn’t around.

If you know my boss, you will thank God with me, there will be space to breathe, to work with ease and peace, be free to move, to rest and all, cause if my boss was to be around, it would be stress and work all through, she never wants to see you stand or sit doing nothing, she would definitely find something for you to get busy with.

Well, we arrived and started work, we hardly had time to sleep, we cook morning, afternoon and night, there were big men around, big clergy men, the likes of Bishop Oyedepo of Winners chapel, there were politicians, there were kings and various dignitaries around, so we were always ready to cook and serve anything. Also, for the very first time, don't laugh at me, it was there I got to see a peacock, there were many all around, just that we weren't able to get so close to them, and we hardly go to the area that they are.

The day of the event came, we are done cooking and all, we went down with our stuffs to the even center, all tired, but since we believed that was the last day, we put in more effort, there will be enough time to rest in few hours time we thought, we should just set our stand, display what we came with and sit till its time to serve.

But then, the event owner came around and asked us to help set up some tables with trays, cups, chargers, and stuffs, that wasn't our work and we brought those things of a truth but we never knew we would br using it, cause we don't have enough compared to those who were really in charge of it, but since it was the owner who asked us to help with it the little way we can, we did the best we could, though not perfect, it was beautiful.

After the program came to an end, it was late already, before we pack and wash our stuff it was way pass midnight, we had to just rest up a little so we can take off very early on Saturday morning. By afternoon we were home, the journey left me weak, aching and all, but still I enjoyed it, there's something divine/special about it, the way the woman smiled when she saw the simple yet beautiful tables we helped set, when she came around to have a taste of the food, all left good memories for me. It wasn't perfect, but we gave it out best.

Now, my next trip will be to the NYSC(National Youth Service Corp) camp. Its a mandated 1 year to serve ones fatherland in Nigeria, we are to go on a 3 weeks camping in a state we would be posted too, and after that, we would be resuming in whatever organization we are being posted to, be it a school, company, ministry or anywhere.

So that's my next trip, hopefully by the first week of next month I will know which state I will get posted to, they often pit people on suspense, you only get to know the state you are posted to when its just about 3days to go. I don't know if it will be north, the east, the south or the west. I just know and am sure its either somewhere I am unfamiliar with or somewhere close to home.

I have heard a lot of people saying camp is a rollercoaster, a mix of drills, dust, lectures, exercise, varieties, new friendships, and all. I have heard of people who even found heard their life partners in camp, some met their destiny helpers. And at least, I hope to meet my destiny helper too, about a partner, let's leave that aside for now, maybe there's someone already🙈. That aside, back to me...I really hope to make friends as well, not just any friend, but those with a growth mindset.

Also, I know a lot of things will feel new to me, am not the type to have roommate, talkless of sharing room with some total strangers, well that's what camp will bring about. I have a lot of plans for it, I am a picky eater so it means I have to go with some money and also get some stuffs along, like milks, garri, cornflakes and the likes, but money still remains the only problem for all of these.

I pray God provide and send helpers ahead of me, because I really want to do this camping and all right. I don't want to feel off or left out, I want to be fully prepared with a full pocket as well. I hope this trip will teach me to be resilient, as my last journey taught me to be resourceful.

Thanks for taking your time to read through.
