A Nation In Pain—When Will It End

I think any opportunity one gets now, or any platform one has now should be used in speaking up for certain issues. With a heavy heart and a teary heart I put this down tonight. Lending my voice to that of millions of Nigeria crying and speaking out. Something is definitely wrong in our beloved country, Nigeria. And I think it's high time we start calling a spade a spade and be real with ourselves while facing the reality.

Just few days ago, over 300children and teachers were abducted from a school named St Mary's Catholic School, in Niger state, Nigeria. These are boys and girls that were meant to be the future of the nation. These are the future of Nigeria being dragged out from school, taken away from their families because some people somewhere have decided to turn kidnapping and abduction into a ransom mission. Because some people somewhere are benefiting from this pain, because some people want to frustrate the citizens

That's not all, few days ago as well, 25girls were reported to be kidnapped in the school, their principal or the vice principal was reportedly short dead. One of the girls was able to escape, but the rest...we all know they are not safe, I can't imagine the suffering and ill treatment they will be facing right now. We are in a country where the government negotiate with the perpetrators of evil and allow them go scot free, we are in the country where the government says any repented terrorists can have a sit anywhere he wants, be it in the government sector or security sector.

Just imagine this insult — a brigadier general in the armed forces was taken by these people just last week, and he was killed, these people made a video of how they did that. Recently ad well, a police officer goes with his team to confront this evil doers, he was taken as well and killed and this people had the guts to take his clothes and put it on to make videos. This people mocked the security system, the government and even we the citizens. And what will the government do, they asked for negotiations. These people came for negotiations putting on the clothes of the officers they killed. And instead of dealing with them, we allowed to be humiliated and face the these people in the negotiation table. We now negotiate for human lives.

Nigeria is facing unrest, there's Christian genocide in Nigeria and a lot more, and some people kept on debunking it, debunking the reality? Just recently, in a village in my own state a church was attacked during program. People died, and over 30others were taking away, in a worship centre. They kept saying we shouldn't stop praying, but then even worship centres are now being attacked. The issue on ground is one that calls for urgent and immediate actions. Not just prayer. Just yesterday they said these ones have been released, but untill when.

Right from time I've been an advocate for humanity. To me, it's never about religion, it's about humans. Because I'm a human first before I'm anything else, either Muslim, Christian..... it's humanity before religion.

So, what I'm saying in essence is, people are dying, people are being kidnapped and outrageous ransom were being demanded for their release. Until when will we keep doing this, until when will we keep living this way. My heart aches, school's have now become battlegrounds and a place of fear, worship centres now have become a place of target for this evil doers. This is now the reality, no one is safe, no one is. Because nobody knows where it will strike next.

Our leaders too have refused to say anything or take any step. This evil doers did a video of where one of the nations brigadier general was slaughtered, just imagine. What then is now our hope, we're told to keep on praying and remain positive, that we are doing, but then prayer without work/action is hollow. It's time we speak together as one and demand what's rightfully ours. The number one work for our leaders is to protect the lives and properties of their citizens, and it's obvious they've failed at that. We must rise up and speak as one, we must demand for security, enough of this insecurity, we must demand for accountability and good leadership. It's high time the government does one thing better, even if it's just this security issues.

We're now scared, whereas our voices should be louder than our fears, people are scared of doing protest because the government in conjunction with the various security personnel may open fire on them. I think that's nothing to be scared of, cause even those that were in the corners of their room, in their school, at their work place and all were being kidnapped, abducted and killed. So, what's more to fear. Our lives matter. But silence at a time like this is not golden.

To those parents and family who has been a victim, I see you, and I sympathize greatly with you. To every child in school, I pray for your protection. To every person going out and traveling, I pray for your safe return. And to our leaders, this is not normal. We are suffering and we're tired. Nigeria is bleeding. But I believe we're stronger than whatever comes our way. We won't keep quiet, we want hide due to fear, we will demand justice, and we will all live to witness a good, better and safer Nigeria.
