Greetings to literature lovers, in this #hivebookclub community, it's a pleasure to greet you and bring you my literary proposal of the week.

I continue along the lines of the poetry of my fellow countrymen, of my legendary Camagüey.

This time, a collection of poems by Floridian Rubén Failde Braña, his latest published book entitled BONFIRE OF MEMORY.

The notebook I'm showing you today, I think, constitutes the author's repaying a debt to himself.

Through poetry, he recalls events and experiences he treasured for years.

With an excellent command of language, he knows how to put the right words in the right place in his poetic discourse.

LOST

You arrive after crossing
stealthy distances,
to sail in daring waters,
those you always knew
and then swore to renounce
(you fabricated your image
behind the back of desire;
you placed bolts on the prison
of walls without destinations)
Now you discover yourself...
You intend to return to the paths
with the deserted hands of failure,
even though the clock warns you're losing the game.

With the elegance that characterizes her poetry, she lets each code flow without stridency, in a way accessible to the reader who can enjoy a precious creation.
These are poems with an erotic theme, clearly understandable, but without crude annotations; what must be said is said delicately, without fuss.

FROM THE ENCOUNTER

Their gazes meet, and he pretends not to remember.
It's July, as the rain falls gently.
"Once again, his hands searching for his lover.
Desire ignites his pupils, open to the life
just twenty years ago."
Now he crosses the street and nods his head. Barely for an instant.
But it's enough for the ashes to become fire
after so many journeys.

A graduate in Spanish and literature, a short story writer and anthologist, he has won multiple awards both in Cuba and abroad. Among the most notable are the Azahar Prize in Cádiz, Spain, the Odón Betanzos Palacios Prize in Huelvas, Spain, and the Luis Suardiaz Literary Critics Award in Cuba.

Rubén Failde Braña belongs to a generation of Cuban artists and intellectuals (playwrights, visual artists, actors, writers) marginalized and castigated by the entities in charge of culture in Cuba.

Ministries, institutions, and media outlets in the 1970s and 1980s erased them from the cultural scene, some, like him, imprisoned.

These measures responded to sexist and homophobic concepts that relegated these creators, whose names are now at the pinnacle of national culture simply because of their sexual preferences, to anonymity for a long time.

The book is divided into two sections and a total of around fifty poems.

The first section alternates poetic prose and free verse, while the second features impeccably constructed sonnets.

Published by Editorial Sanlope of Las Tunas in 2019 and released in its homeland in March 2023, during the Book Fair.

The cover design is by Alejandro Pupo and the editing is by Antonio Gutiérrez Rodríguez.

DON'T WANT TO GET AWAY

Don't want to get away from the planes
(innocent volcanoes of memory)
remember that you bite me, that I bite you
the tip of oblivion and your hands.

Remember that the pairs, the distant
and the dark virtue of disagreement
re-emerge from the light in which I lose myself:
Agreement and disagreement are brothers.

Don't want to get away from the homes
that distance ceaselessly seeks.
Don't want to distance the great madness

of seeing me as I am, in the odd
evening orgasms of your guide.
Don't want the reason of midday.

This review is a modest tribute to my friend and a tribute to the poet;
The passage of time is taking its toll on the poet's brilliant mind, but his collections of poems are the testimony that will come to their author.

Sigo por la cuerda de la poesía de mis coterráneos, de mi Camagüey legendario.

El cuaderno que les muestro hoy, pienso, constituye, saldar el autor, una deuda consigo mismo.

Rememora a través de la poesía hechos, vivencias que guardó por años.

Con un excelente dominio del lenguaje, sabe poner a su discurso poético las palabras justas, en el lugar exacto.

EXTRAVÍO

Llegas después de atravesar
sigilosas distancias,
a navegar en aguas atrevidas,
aquellas que siempre conocieras
y luego juraste renunciar
(tu imagen fabricabas
a espaldas del deseo;
cerrojos ponías en la carcel
de muros sin destinos)
Ahora te descubres...
Pretendes volver a los senderos
con las manos desiertas del fracaso,
aunque el reloj advierta que pierdes la partida.

Con esa elegancia que caracteriza su poesia, deja fluir sin estridencias, cada código de manera asequible para el lector que puede disfrutar de una creación preciosista.
Son poemas de tema erótico, claramente comprensible, pero sin acotaciones crudas, se dice lo que se debe con delicadeza, sin aspavientos.

DEL ENCUENTRO

Coinciden las miradas y finge no acordarse.
Es julio, mientras cae la lluvia suavemente.
<<Otra vez con las manos en busca del amante.
El deseo enciende sus pupilas abiertas a la vida
hace solo veinte años>>.
Ahora cruza la calle y mueve la cabeza.Apenas un instante.
Pero es suficiente para que la ceniza llegue a ser incendio
después de tantos rumbos.

Licenciado como profesor de Español y literatura,narrador y antologador, es multipremiado dentro y fuera de Cuba,dentro de los más relevantes está el Premio Azahar en Cádiz, España, el Odón Betanzos Palacios de Huelvas, España y el premio de la crítica literaria en Cuba Luis Suardiaz.

Rubén Failde Braña pertenece a una generación de artistas e intelectuales cubanos (dramaturgos, artistas de la plástica, actores, escritores) marginados y fustigados por las entidades encargadas de la cultura en Cuba.

Ministerio, instituciones y medios de difusión en las décadas de los setentas y los ochenta, que los borraron del panorama cultural, algunos como es su caso, llevados a centros de reclusión.

Estás medidas respondían a conceptos sexistas, homofóbicos que relegaron, por mucho tiempo en el anonimato, a estos creadores que hoy sus nombres están en la cumbre de la cultura nacional y por el solo hecho de sus preferencias sexuales.

El libro está distribuido en dos secciones y un total de alrededor de cincuenta poemas.

En la primera sección alternan la prosa poética y el versolibrismo, en la segunda sus sonetos construidos de manera impecable.

Publicado por la Editorial Sanlope de Las Tunas en 2019 y vió la luz en su tierra natal en marzo del 2023, durante la Feria del Libro.

NO QUIERAS ALEJARTE

No quieras alejarte de los planos
(inocentes volcanes del recuerdo)
recuerda que me muerdes, que te muerdo
la punta del olvido y de las manos.

Recuerda que los pares, los lejanos
y la oscura virtud del desacuerdo
resurgen de la luz en que me pierdo:
Acuerdo y desacuerdo son hermanos.

No quieras alejarte de los lares
que la distancia sin cesar procura.
No quieras distanciar la gran locura

de verme como soy, en los impares
orgasmos vespertinos de tu guía.
No quieras la razón del mediodía.

Esta reseña es un poco mi modesto homenaje al amigo y el respeto al poeta;
el paso del tiempo está haciendo mella en la mente brillante del poeta, pero sus poemarios son el testimonio que sobrevendrà a su autor .
