Birthday celebration: an unexpected surprise [Eng/Esp].

Greetings everyone, today I want to put on record that I celebrated my birthday with my husband this year. It has become a tradition that, when we return from the countryside for the Christmas holidays, we get together to share a slice of cake.

Years ago, we used to spend a lot of money on this party, from buying five crates of beer, making a piñata, hiring someone to entertain at the birthday party... until my husband and I began to realise that it was an unnecessary expense because those who attended did not invite us to theirs. To make matters worse, the situation in the country meant that we could no longer do it that way.

I would like to share that my husband and I celebrated our anniversary on Wednesday, 7 January, and I enjoyed it in this way: that day, I received two letters written by my daughters as tokens of their love for me. During the day, I was preparing everything, and I told our relatives who live nearby to come at 8:00 p.m., as we would be cutting the cake.

To pass the time, I decorated with whatever I had on hand, since everything was ready, from the chocolate cake we both love to the jelly and cheese that accompany us on every birthday.

People began arriving after 8:00 p.m.; only my husband's sister and her daughter were missing. When my sister-in-law arrived, she brought a cake that my husband's son had sent to be bought.

I was surprised by the gift; neither my husband nor I expected such a thoughtful gesture, and we thanked them for being part of this lovely surprise. We have been celebrating with one cake for 16 years, and I never thought I would have two at home, which was different this year.

We were talking when a phone call upset my sister-in-law's daughter, who left in a huff, leaving us uncertain about what was going on. My husband went to find out, and it turned out that my nephew had crashed the car and wanted to keep it.

Everything calmed down, and they returned home to sing "Happy Birthday" and blow out the candles together. Because of this, I can say that I am grateful to God for my life, my daughters' lives, and the family I have.

Furthermore, I am happy to have my parents by my side and to have them accompany me at every special event. I hope that life continues to surprise me alongside my loved ones and that we can cope with whatever happens with love, tolerance, patience, and empathy reigning in each of us.

Saludos a todos, hoy quiero que quede constancia de que celebré el cumpleaños junto a mi esposo este año. Ya es costumbre que, al regresar del campo por las festividades navideñas, realicemos un compartir para picar la torta.

Años atrás, gastábamos mucho dinero en esa fiesta, desde comprar 5 cajas de cerveza, hacer piñata, contratar a alguien que amenizara el cumpleaños..., hasta que mi esposo y yo empezamos a observar que era un gasto innecesario porque los que asistían no nos invitaban al suyo; por si fuera poco, la situación del país colaboró a que ya no se haga de esa manera.

Les cuento que mi esposo y yo cumplimos el miércoles 7 de enero, y lo disfruté de esta forma: ese día recibí dos cartas elaboradas por mis hijas como muestras de su amor hacia mí. Durante el día estuve preparando todo, les dije a nuestros familiares que viven cerca que llegaran a las 8:00 p. m., ya que se picaría la torta.

Haciendo tiempo, adorné con decoración que tenía a disposición, ya que todo estaba listo, desde la torta de chocolate que nos encanta a ambos, además de la gelatina y el quesillo que nos acompaña en todos los cumpleaños.

Empezaron a llegar las personas después de las 8:00 p. m.; solo faltaba la hermana de mi esposo y su hija. Cuando hizo acto de presencia mi cuñada, venía con una torta que el hijo de mi esposo mandó comprar.

Quedé sorprendida por el regalo; tanto mi esposo como yo no esperábamos ese detalle y dimos las gracias por ser cómplices del lindo gesto. Han sido 16 años celebrando con una torta y nunca pensé tener dos en casa, lo cual este año fue diferente.

Conversamos, y una llamada descontroló a la hija de mi cuñada, que salió alterada, y creó incertidumbre en nosotros al no saber qué pasaba. Mi esposo fue a saber y resulta que el sobrino había chocado el carro y quería guardarlo.

Ya todo estaba calmado; volvieron a la casa para cantar el cumpleaños y poder soplar la vela juntos. Por lo antes mencionado, puedo decir que me siento agradecida con Dios por mi vida, la de mis hijas y la familia que tengo.

Además, soy feliz de tener a mis padres a mi lado y que me acompañen en cada acontecimiento especial. Deseo que la vida me siga sorprendiendo junto a mis seres queridos y que podamos sobrellevar lo que suceda con amor, tolerancia, paciencia y que la empatía reine en cada uno de nosotros.
