Today, I'll introduce you to Henrik Ibsen's play A Doll's House. I personally love this play because its central theme is the social position of women through a typical bourgeois marriage.

We'll begin by discussing some essential facts about the author's life.

Henrik Ibsen was born on March 20, 1828, in Norway. He was a great playwright and poet. He died on May 23, 1906.

Now, I'll introduce you to his character structure and then give you a brief plot of A Doll's House.

Torvald Helmer: Nora's husband. He is a truthful, upright, and upright man, to the point of sacrificing everything to the fulfillment of his duty. He especially hates lying and is selfish toward his wife. He lives for his duty and his work. He never involves love or his wife in the serious problems of his life, the responsibility for which he faces alone. He regards his wife not as a companion in every moment, but as a toy, a doll. He is interested in his wife's success in the eyes of others.

Nora: Torvald's wife, her temperament is completely opposite to that of her husband. A character full of life and feminine charms, due to her delicacy, childlike ingenuity, her affectionate attitude, her constant mobility, and her fragility, which makes her defenseless in the face of life's problems. She is thoughtful and does not conceive of marital relationships based on hypocrisy and misunderstanding, determined to break away from everything to achieve her human fulfillment.

MRS. LINDE: Nora's friend since school, she is a widow, embittered by life's mistreatment and by the very laws of society.

Krogstad: A widowed father who committed the crime of forgery; he seeks to rehabilitate himself with a promotion at the bank. An unscrupulous man, capable of anything; also a victim of social circumstances.Dr.

Rank: A family friend and Nora's confidant. He maintains a platonic love for her, which he confesses when he knows he has little time left to live.

Nora, a woman married to Helmer, with whom she has three children, lives in a society where women are constantly judged and, as the title suggests, treated like a doll, just another ornament in the house. Her husband needs money due to a serious illness that threatens to take his life, and in order to help him, she breaks moral precepts and borrows money. This act is rejected by her husband due to society's prejudices. At that time, it was frowned upon for a woman to ask for money or have to work while her husband was responsible for supporting the family. Therefore, she feels totally alone and decides to leave home and her children to fulfill herself as a social being. She feels incapable of providing an education for her children without having fulfilled herself as a person.

The play culminates with a slam of the door that shook Europe and the entire world at the time; it was a new beginning for women of that era. She represented a symbol of women's rebellion against the falseness of bourgeois marriage, which places them in a state of tedium, routine, and total submission to their husbands. She showed a woman's determination to fight for fulfillment as a human being. Nora's final attitude reveals her rejection of the oppression to which women are subjected in bourgeois society.

Ultimately, this drama is also a critique of 19th-century Norwegian society, where women were perceived as inferior to men and discriminated against, leading to the belief that they are incapable of reflection and making important decisions.

Un cálido saludo mis amigos lectores. Una vez más nos damos cita para comentar los pasajes de grandiosas obras literarias. Aquí te dejo una gran propuesta para que te deleites este fin de semana. Sígueme.

Hoy te presentaré el drama Casa de muñecas de Henrik Ibsen. Esta obra en lo personal me fascina ya que tiene como tema central la posición social de la mujer mediante un matrimonio típico burgués.

Comenzaremos primeramente comentando algunos datos esenciales de la vida de su autor.

Henrik Ibsen nació el 20 de marzo de 1828 en Noruega. Gran escritor dramaturgo y poeta. Fallece el 23 de mayo de 1906.

Ahora te presentaré su sistema de personajes para luego darte un breve argumento de Casa de Muñecas.

Torvaldo Helmer: esposo de Nora. Es un hombre veraz, íntegro, recto, a tal extremo que todo lo sacrifica al cumplimiento de su deber, odia principalmente la mentira, es egoísta frente a su esposa. Vive para su deber y para su trabajo. Jamás mezcla al amor ni a su esposa en los problemas serios de su vida, cuya responsabilidad afronta él solo. Considera a su esposa no como una compañera de todos los momentos, sino como un juguete, como una muñeca.Se interesa porque su mujer tenga éxito frente a los ojos de los demás.

Nora: esposa de Torvaldo es de un temperamento totalmente opuesto al de su cónyuge. Personaje lleno de vida y encantos femeninos, por su delicadeza, ingenuidad infantil, por su actitud cariñosa, por su constante movilidad y por su fragilidad que la presenta indefensa ante los problemas de la vida. Es reflexiva no concibe las relaciones matrimoniales basadas en la hipocresía y en la incomprensión, decidida a romper con todo para lograr su realización humana.

SEÑORA LINDE: amiga de Nora desde la escuela, es viuda, amargada debido a los maltratos de la vida y por las mismas leyes de la sociedad.

Krogstad: padre viudo, que cometió delito de falsificación; que quiere rehabilitarse con un ascenso en el banco. Hombre sin escrúpulos, capaz de todo; víctima también de las circunstancias sociales.

Doctor Rank: amigo de la familia, confidente de Nora. Mantiene un amor platónico hacia ella, el cual confiesa cuando sabe que le queda poco tiempo de vida.

Nora, es una mujer casada con Helmer con el cual tiene tres hijos, vive en una sociedad donde la mujer es constantemente enjuiciada y como bien dice el título, tratada como una muñeca, un adorno más de la casa, su esposo necesita dinero debido a una grave enfermedad que amenaza con arrebatarle la vida y ella por ayudarlo, rompe con los preceptos morales y pide dinero prestado, acto que no acepta su esposo, debido a los prejuicios de la sociedad, ya que en aquella época era mal visto que una mujer pidiera dinero o tuviera que trabajar teniendo un marido que era el encargado de mantener la familia, por lo que se siente totalmente sola y decide abandonar el hogar y sus hijos para realizarse como ser social. Se siente incapaz de darle una educación a sus hijos sin haberse realizado ella como persona.

La obra culmina con un portazo que en aquel tiempo sacudió Europa y el mundo entero, fue un nuevo comienzo para la mujer de aquella época. Representó un símbolo de rebeldía de la mujer ante la falsedad del matrimonio burgués que le coloca en un estado de tedio, de rutina, de sumisión total al esposo, mostró la decisión de una mujer de luchar por realización como ser humano. La actitud final de Nora revela el rechazo a la opresión a la que se ve sometida la mujer en la sociedad burguesa.

En fin este drama es a la vez una crítica a la sociedad Noruega del siglo XIX, donde la mujer se reflejaba como inferior al hombre, y era discriminada, lo que conduce a la creencia de que es incapaz de reflexionar, de tomar decisiones de gran importancia.
