Double Celebration

Yesterday, January 8, both my mother and my nephew, my sister's only son, celebrated their birthdays.

To celebrate this double event, we went to dinner at a well-known private club in the city, of which my brother-in-law and sister have been members for some time.

We gathered around 7:30 p.m. at a table where, in addition to the guests of honor, we were joined by a group of people, all family and close friends, including my nephew's girlfriend and her parents.

My mother reached the respectable age of 85, while my young nephew, who recently finished his university studies, turned 24.

Ayer 8 de Enero, tanto mi madre como mi sobrino, el único hijo de mi hermana, cumplieron años.

Para celebrar este doble acontecimiento, fuimos a cenar a un conocido club privado de la ciudad, del cual mi cuñado y mi hermana son socios desde hace algún tiempo.

Nos reunimos alrededor de las 7:30 pm, en una mesa donde además de los agasajados, nos encontrabamos alrededor de unas personas, todos familiares y amigos cercanos, incluyendo a su novia y a los padres de ella.

Mi madre alcanzó la respetable cifra de 85 años de vida, mientras mi joven sobrino quien recientemente finalizó sus estudios universitarios, cumplió 24 años de edad.

To start the evening, my brother-in-law ordered some pepperoni pizzas, my nephew's favorite, to share among all the guests, then everyone ordered what they wanted.

In my case, I ordered a chicken Caesar salad because I am no longer accustomed to eating heavy meals at night, as I used to. In addition, I am experiencing some health issues, for which I am fortunately receiving medical treatment.

After dinner, we proceeded to sing the short or traditional version of “Happy Birthday,” since Venezuelans are known globally for having one of the longest birthday songs on the entire planet, which is often the subject of memes on various social networks.

On this occasion, the photo session revolved exclusively around the two birthday boys, along with the girlfriend who was next to my nephew when they blew out the candles twice.

As I have described in previous posts, I process the original photographs using the editing tools offered in their free versions by the applications Picsart and Snapseed.

Para iniciar la velada, mi cuñado ordenó algunas pizzas de pepperoni, las favoritas de mi sobrino, para compartir entre todos los asistentes, luego cada quien ordenó lo que deseaba.

En mi caso, ordené una ensalada césar de pollo, porque no acostumbro como solía hacer antes, comer pesado en la noche, además, estoy atravesando algunos problemas de salud, por lo que afortunadamente me encuentro bajo tratamiento médico.

Luego de la cena, procedimos a cantar el cumpleaños feliz en su versión corta o tradicional, ya que los venezolanos somos conocidos a nivel global por tener una de las canciones de cumpleaños mas larga del planeta entero, lo cual suele ser objeto de memes en las diferentes redes sociales.

En esta ocasión, la sesión fotográfica giró exclusivamente en torno al par de cumpleañeros del día, junto a la novia quien estuvo al lado de mi sobrino al momento de apagar las velas por partida doble.

Como he descrito en posts anteriores, las fotografías originales las proceso haciendo uso de las herramientas de edición que ofrecen en sus versiones gratuitas las aplicaciones Picsart y Snapseed.
