Splinterlands | Practising Survival Mode and Analysing The New UI
Hello Splinterlands players!
If you are a splinterlands player, I guess you are excited about the latest update from the game, where they added a brand new unique gameplay style using your same old Splinterlands NFT cards. This new multiplayer mode in the game can be played alongside the Ranked, Brawls and Tournaments and most interestingly, in this mode, you do not have a battle energy bar and instead, your card collection becomes your energy, limited to reset only after a season. Another thing noticeable in the brand new in-game User Interface, including cool theme effects, pictures and new battle found page and control panel page which looks just amazing to look at if I am being honest and gives a game a fresh new look with better looking graphics work.
Anyway, the new Survival Battle Mode is making quite a buzz among the Splinterlands community already and carrying the news beyond Hive. If you surf through the Splinterlands blogs on Hive, you will find plenty of players sharing their experiences and thoughts with Survival mode, so it clearly looks like the mega gameplay update has been taken open-heartedly by the whole community. Anyway, in this post, I will be talking about my first experience with Survival mode while analysing the newly launched upgraded UI during match playing. So, if you are interested, let’s take the leap of faith right into it without any further ado.
Now, hopefully after this update, many old players who were renting their cards may think of coming back into active playing with their large collection. This mode will become a heaven for card tycoons because the mode is being created in such a way to hook up as many cheap high-level cards off market or being idle and get them a use-case with this new Survival mode update. The Survival mode reward economy is purely dependent upon how many high-level cards you have in your collection, including duplicate cards, of course. So, if you have multiple copies of Pelacor Bandit or Venari Crystalsmith, the new cards will replace the old cards when the old cards go into cooldown mode and become unable to be used in battles anymore. So, in simple words, whatever all the fancy, costly, and dirt cheap but important cards you have in your active collection, including both regular and gold foils, can all be used in one single season. In case of multiple copies of a unique card, you can use both gold and regular foils of all copies of that card and the cards will take one after another if the first one gets defeated in the battle and goes to cooldown after a time period. So, it is crucial to make a strategy plan on which cards you will be using most first and which ones to save for Ranked, Tournament or Brawls.

Anyway, using cards in survival mode is a risky business and once you have any card on cooldown, that card can not be used anywhere for the whole season. So, if you do not want to take any risk on your ranked or other gameplays, just remember not to use the cards that you rely on for those formats. Also, try to make a separate account if you have enough time to play both. The above screenshot is the first message that you get while entering the Survival mode, so the seriousness of Survival mode. But in reality, will the Players who just have a decent regular foil collection without extra copies survive in the town? Anyway, I also wanted to play and test the survival mode a bit but didn't want to cancel the active ongoing rents on my cards, so I simply chose to try the game out with the Practice mode on all my SoulBound cards.
Moving forward, let me now share the process of how to effectively use the practice mode effectively without any effect on your cards in Survival mode.
- Open Splinterlands and switch to Survival mode first.
- The only way to safe practice is to playing practice mode and as you can see in the screenshot above, I am entering the Practice mode by simply clicking in it.

- While in Practice mode, you will be asked to select data in those boxes to customize the match according to your needs.
The pop-up window will ask you to select only 3 selections, Difficulty, Allowed Cards and Summoner level caps and after selecting according to your wish, you will be redirected to the match page.

After the initial custom match page, the new opened page will show you your live battle and here you can read all the different important stats like Rulesets, Allowed Elements and Mana Cost, etc.
On the pop-up Battle found page, let us analyse this whole window again after it got heavily updated with the new UI.

First, at no. 1, we see the player name and the guild he is playing in. At no. 2, we can view the opponent player’s recent 6 match's element selection. At no. 3, you see the battle mana limit and elements allowed, at no. 4, you see the rulesets applied and as usual, up to 3 rulesets can be there. Lastly, at no. 5, we have the Entry button and the Surrender button.,
Next, when you land on the card selection page, you get exposed to a whole new card selection UI with literally everything being replaced and redesigned. To be honest, it is looking much cooler and as I tested while playing and using the selection tools on the left side, I think it will be a little problematic for users to cope with the change, but features like re-arranging cards are now smoother, thanks to the Splinterlands developers.
In the screenshot above, you can see at 1 no. the used / total mana limit for the match counter, at no. 2, you have all the filter controls, which are used to find a card based on its different attributes. At no. 3, you see a green glowing line, which represents the clock time and will become red when you are in you comes at the last minute. No. 4 is the timer for the match, no. 5 shows all the rulesets, mana cost and Elements used, no. 6 is the lineup slot where your selected cards take place and lastly, the portion below shows your active cards which you can choose for the match.

can't be used for the whole season? Seriously?
I thought the cooldown time lasted only a few days.
