Hello Readers,

If you were not living under a rock, you have probably heard the growing buzz about the Moonkarts game by now. Developed by Arcade Colony, this retro-style arcade racing game is currently making quite a noise, not only on the Hive blockchain but beyond. Now, for those of you who love to engage with play2earn games, you may have played dozens of games on Hive and other blockchains, but once you check out Moonkarts, I am sure your thinking about crypto games will change. Because, unlike most of the other play-to-earn games that only rely on simple card-based mechanics and 2D interfaces which honestly give no fun at all, Moonkarts delivers a thrilling, fully immersive 3D racing experience that you will forget you are playing a game that is running on blockchain.

Here are some key features of why Moonkarts stands out from most of the other crypto-based play2earn games out there.

  • Stunning 3D Graphics – Moonkarts delivers eye-catching 3D in-depth visuals that bring the tracks and racers to life.

  • Smooth Gameplay – Moonkarts comes with smooth responsive controls and well-crafted mechanics for a true arcade racing feel.

  • Blockchain Integration – The Moonkarts game is built on the decentralized Hive blockchain, allowing for real asset ownership and play-to-earn crypto rewards.

  • Strategic Elements – Moonkarts is more than just racing because here, players must carefully choose their Driver Cards, Kart Cards, Tech Cards, Accessory Cards and Power-Up Cards in order to build the perfect setup combo and optimal performance.

From my little experience with this game so far, I think that with its exciting mechanics, skill-based gameplay and visually stunning design, Moonkarts has a promising potential to become a top blockchain racing game in the near future. Anyway, in my last Moonkarts Tutorial post, I talked about different Driver cards and their stats and features and today, it is time to learn about the Power-up cards in this game.

Why Power-Ups are Important?

Of course speed and driving skills matter in Moonkarts, but what really sets top players apart in this game is their smart use of Power-Ups. These special ability cards can get you effective advantages in race by boosting speed, disrupting opponents or providing powerful defenses, thus turning every race into a battle to achieve the glorious first place. In Moonkarts, Racers can carry different types of Power-up cards to gain such in-game abilities to get an upper hand that really matters to win a race. These power-ups actually are special types of cards that can be achieved by opening Centauri cards and they get deployed in your racing kits.

Power-Ups

Now moving on, let us explore the different types of Power-Up cards and learn how to use them effectively in the game.

Lunar Glide

The Lunar Glide is a perfect power-up card for players who love to cause chaos while racing on the track. When activated, your kart releases a slick oil trail behind you, making any opponent who drives over it slip and lose control and spin out. This card is especially useful in sharp corners or narrow paths, where avoiding the oil spill becomes nearly impossible.

Best Use - Drop it on tight turns or crowded areas to throw off multiple rivals.

Celestial Thrust.png

Celestial Thrust

If you eagerly need to overtake an opponent or escape a dangerous situation, the Celestial Thrust would be your best friend. It gives your kart a sudden massive burst of speed, thus allowing you to accelerate and gain distance in seconds. This is really a game-changer, especially in long straightaways or last-second sprints to the finish line.

Best Use - Try to activate it on straight roads to maximize acceleration and take the lead.

Moonfire Missile (1).png

Moonfire Missile

Wanna play James Bond? Well, if you prefer an offensive strategy like nuking the opponent cars, the Moonfire Missile would be your favorite power-up. It locks onto an opponent Kart and fires a homing rocket, thus dealing immense damage and knocking them off their path. This is perfect for taking down aggressive rivals or disrupting the race leader.

Best Use - Try firing at an opponent running ahead of you to slow them down and move up in position.

Cosmic Disruptor

The Cosmic Disruptor power-up card emits an electromagnetic pulse and temporarily disables the nearby karts. When activated, it sends out a shockwave that affects with opponent’s controls, causing them to lose speed or control. This power-up card is incredibly effective when used against multiple cars nearby while racing.

Best Use - Try to activate it when you are very close to a group of racers to affect multiple opponents at once.

Lunar Bolt

The Lunar Bolt power-up allows you to summon a lightning bolt to strike a specific opponent’s kart. The targeted racer loses control and slows down, giving you a chance to overtake them. Unlike the Moonfire Missile, this attack is instant and cannot be dodged once activated.

Best Use - Try to use it on the race leader or a fast competitor to knock them out of position.

Lunar Barrier

Sometimes in Moonkarts, the best offense is a strong defense. The Lunar Barrier power-up creates a force field around your kart, making you immune to all the enemy attacks and collisions for a short amount of time. This is a perfect choice for blocking incoming missiles, disruptors and lightning strikes.

Best Use - Try to activate it when you see an attack coming or in high-risk moments during the race, especially when you are just about to finish a race with the top position.

How to Master These Power-Ups

Practice makes a Racer Perfect in Moonkarts. So, in order to win races and dominate the track, you need to use Power-Ups strategically and on time. Here are some tips that you may apply…

  • Know Your track – Some Power-Up cards work better in specific areas, like the Lunar Glide in sharp corners and Celestial Thrust in straight paths. So try to memorize tracks and apply these power-ups when they are most useful.
  • Time your attacks – Do not waste Moonfire Missiles on weak opponents or when you are far behind. Rather, I would suggest waiting for the perfect moment to take them down.
  • Defend wisely – Always try to keep your Lunar Barrier for critical moments when you are vulnerable to attacks or when an attack can cost you your hard-earned position.
  • Use disruptors at key points – A well-timed Cosmic Disruptor can throw off multiple racers right before the finish line. So, don't use them in a hurry or against just 1 opponent.

Last but not least, with the right power-up strategy and enough practice, you can easily outsmart and outpace the competition. Try using all these different types of power-ups and gain experience and learn when and how they work the best. So, don’t wait anymore and get ready to hit the tracks and race your way to victory and snatch that glorious top seat in Moonkarts!
