The Case for Internet Access as a Universal Human Right

"Access to information is critical in the modern world."
This is a publication based on the suggested topic proposed in the Hive Learners community through their discord, which on this occasion is "A Fundamental Human Right".
Today, with globalization, internet access should be considered a universal human right. The reason it should be a fundamental right is because of the need for information we have today and the speed at which news transfers and occurs in different parts of the world. It is crucial for everyone to know, for example, when a disaster is going to happen or when there is a large migratory wave of humans or animals moving to another country. This allows the country or government to take necessary emergency measures, prepare, and all this is thanks to the internet. For instance, if people find out through the internet that there will be a significant heatwave, they can quickly take the necessary measures, possibly moving to places where the heatwave will not reach. All this information can be consulted through the internet in a matter of seconds. This means that a person who has access to knowledge can educate themselves quickly through the internet in an easier and more economical way. I believe that preventing anyone from accessing the internet should be considered a violation of human rights. We know there are countries where communism and totalitarianism prevent people from accessing the internet. We have seen several cases, such as China, where censorship prevents access to certain websites, limiting internet access. I think to reach a consensus, regulations and norms should be established for internet access so that all human beings have their universal right to internet access, but this access should come with responsibility. A signed document from the person stating they will use the internet responsibly and adequately is needed. For example, my friend @aaalviarez made an analogy in his publication that the internet is to diabetes as sugar is to a diabetic. A diabetic cannot be given large amounts of sugar because it would harm them; the same applies to the internet. There should be regulations, as this tool should not be given to someone who doesn't know how to use it or is likely to use it harmfully to society. For example, the internet in the hands of a serial killer or a psychopath is an obvious weapon that causes much harm. We have seen how, through the internet, pedophiles contact children and abuse their innocence. So, on one hand, it should be regulated because the responsibility lies with the child's parents who allow them internet access. On the other hand, there is also the responsibility of the pedophile who uses the internet in a harmful way that does not benefit society. It should be regulated. I mentioned in other publications that the wisest and best solution for normalizing and regulating this is making each person sign a responsibility agreement. The responsibility agreement should not serve as identification but should remain anonymous to maintain the internet's principle that each person can remain anonymous. This is to avoid tracking with cryptocurrencies and maintain anonymity, which is one of the beauties and benefits of the internet and cryptocurrency use. The anonymity allows banks or governmental institutions not to know who is using the internet. However, there should be a record that through the signing of this agreement, the IP address or the customer of the internet company is responsible for that IP address and all internet usage from that IP address. If an abuse, misuse, or illegal act is committed from that IP address, that person should be held responsible because the IP address is registered under their name. I believe things could work better this way. If universal internet access is declared worldwide, I think we would have a better world. More people would have access to knowledge, and the long-term effects would be very positive. I think it is something we could live with, and it would invite us to take the next step in our evolutionary scale as a species and human beings. I believe it will be very positive and necessary in the long term, but of course, this is my very particular position because I am a transhumanist. I agree @manclar that the internet should be a universal right, also that it should be regulated not censored. The only thing that before the right to internet I think that there are other more prioritaros as housing say for everyone, eradicate hunger and other...

Of course, but you must understand that these issues are considered essentially focused on the African community, since the questions or issues that deal with the realities that live by there. In that sense they are wondering in the community that opinion has people about the internet for them and for everyone, starting from that point, I think it is very important that it is for them, and for the world in general. The same goes for other issues that have raised, such as prenuptial arrangements, very common in African, and so many other things.
I never look at the community when I read a post 😁, I guess you are absolutely right.
Best regards.
