The Ancient Roots of Wastewater Systems [ENG-SPA]

The proposed topic to write about on this occasion is a wastewater system, and when I think about this set of words, I immediately and fruitfully travel to think and imagine dungeons and dragons and all this labyrinthine system that exists beneath cities. But not only in the cities as we know them today in our civilization in the year 2025, but primarily I imagined them in the medieval age, when people began to have knowledge of engineering.
And not only in the medieval age, but much earlier.
I speak of the beginnings of humanity, when the Romans and the Egyptian engineers began to have ideas on how to create channels to channel the waters and bring these waters to become irrigation systems for agriculture and other things. From these ideas arose these new ideas of creating these wastewater systems.
And my imagination flies thinking about the ways in which these people began to worry about having a system to evacuate all the waste from the houses and the villages from under their houses, so as not to contaminate.
And I imagine that at some point in their trajectory and in their life, they realized that keeping waste within their own homes caused them diseases, attracted flies, and brought a number of hygiene problems. And then they worried about doing it another way and began to think about creating all these inventions, all these wastewater systems so important and so necessary.
I imagine all the struggles those people had to fight. Surely, as happens today, in those times there would be people who did not want to give up their ideas and thought that the best thing was to continue accumulating waste in the houses and did not want to change their minds. I start to think a little about all these struggles that these people and these geniuses fought, and for that time they were geniuses, precursors of these great inventions that have helped humanity so much.
And I find it curious that the human being has a sort of golden rule, a principle by which it operates and by which it is motivated.
And this principle is that whenever there is a difficulty, the human being uses its ingenuity to be able to overcome it. And this says a lot about how important it is that we have difficulties in our lives, because precisely they help us stimulate our survival, that our survival impulse emerges and forces us to do what is necessary to stay alive.
Definitely, there are also special cases here in which, when a person or a human being remains for too long surviving or being challenged, putting themselves to the test, and not by their own will, but due to questions of fate in order to survive, the person exhausts themselves physically and simply ends up dying or fainting, because the person no longer has the strength to continue trying, trying, trying.
However, these are exceptions to the rule.I speak precisely of my case.
It is not that I consider myself special, but it is a matter that I have dealt with on other occasions on different topics that I have spoken about here in my publications. But what I do want to highlight is that significantly interesting thing: that the human being needs to be challenged in order to move forward.
And I consider that the human being in itself should not need to be challenged to move forward, because if it is smart enough and evolved, it could move forward without the need to have challenges that motivate it, simply for the fact that having a better life and living more comfortably is something that should be a life principle of every living being.
Because even the most basic animals in nature have that instinct of wanting to evolve or wanting to hunt their prey in an instinctive way, not by challenge, but because they are made to be that way. Then we human beings should be made that way. But of course, this is, of course, my humble opinion that surely is not shared by many of you.
El tema propuesto para escribir en esta ocasión es un sistema de aguas residuales y cuando pienso en este conjunto de palabras, viajo fértilmente de inmediato a pensar e imaginar en mazmorras y dragones y todo este sistema laberíntico que existe bajo las ciudades, pero no solo en las ciudades como las conocemos hoy en nuestra civilización en el año 2025, sino principalmente las imaginé en la edad medieval, cuando las personas comenzaron a tener conocimientos de ingeniería, y no solo en la edad medieval, sino mucho antes.
Hablo de los principios de la humanidad, cuando los romanos y los ingenieros egipcios comenzaron a tener ideas de cómo crear canales para encauzar las aguas y llevar estas aguas a convertirse en sistemas de riego para la agricultura y otras cosas, que a partir de estas ideas surgieron estas nuevas ideas de crear estos sistemas de aguas residuales.
Y mi imaginación vuela pensando en las formas en que estas personas comenzaron a preocuparse por tener un sistema para evacuar todos los residuos de las casas y de los pueblos bajo sus casas, para no contaminar, e imagino que en algún punto de su trayectoria y en su vida se dieron cuenta de que conservar los desechos dentro de sus propias casas les causaba enfermedades, atraía moscas y traía una serie de problemas de higiene, y entonces se preocuparon por hacerlo de otra manera y comenzaron a pensar en crear todos estos inventos, todos estos sistemas de aguas residuales tan importantes y tan necesarios.
Imagino todas las luchas que tuvieron que librar esas personas, seguramente, como sucede hoy, en aquellos tiempos habría personas que no querían renunciar a sus ideas y pensaban que lo mejor era seguir acumulando los residuos en las casas y no querían cambiar de opinión.
Empiezo a pensar un poco sobre todas estas luchas que estas personas y estos genios libraron, y para esa época eran genios, precursores de estos grandes inventos que tanto han ayudado a la humanidad.
Y me parece curioso que el ser humano tenga como una regla de oro, un principio por el cual funciona y por el cual se motiva, y este principio es que siempre que hay una dificultad, el ser humano saca su ingenio para poder superarla, y esto dice mucho sobre lo importante que es que tengamos dificultades en nuestras vidas, porque precisamente nos ayudan a estimular que sobrevivamos, que nuestro impulso de supervivencia salga y nos obligue a hacer lo necesario para mantenernos con vida.
Definitivamente, también aquí hay casos especiales en los que, cuando una persona o un ser humano permanece demasiado tiempo sobreviviendo o siendo desafiado, poniéndose a prueba, y no por su propia voluntad, sino por cuestiones del destino para sobrevivir, la persona se agota físicamente y simplemente termina muriendo o desmayándose, porque la persona ya no tiene la fuerza para continuar intentando, intentando, intentando.
Sin embargo, estas son excepciones en la regla.
Hablo precisamente de mi caso, no es que me considere especial, pero es un asunto que he tratado en otras ocasiones en diferentes temas de los que he hablado aquí en mis publicaciones, pero lo que sí quiero destacar es esa cosa significativamente interesante de que el ser humano necesita ser desafiado para poder avanzar.
Y considero que el ser humano en sí no debería necesitar ser desafiado para avanzar, porque si es lo suficientemente inteligente y evolucionado, podría avanzar sin necesidad de tener desafíos que lo motiven, simplemente por el hecho de que tener una vida mejor y vivir más cómodamente es algo que debería ser un principio de vida de todo ser vivo, porque incluso los animales más básicos en la naturaleza tienen ese instinto de querer evolucionar o querer cazar a sus presas de una manera instintiva, no por desafío, sino porque están hechos para ser así.
Entonces, nosotros los seres humanos deberíamos estar hechos de esa manera, pero, por supuesto, esta es mi humilde opinión que seguramente no es compartida por muchos de ustedes.
