Should Zoos Exist?

Today's topic is all about zoologicals and it is that looking at it from my point of view, zoologicals are used for entertainment of human beings and at first, to be honest, I find that it is quite despicable to use them as entertainment for the human being because the animals from my point of view must be free, they should not be pets, especially wild animals, but in this publication I am going to carry out an analysis studying the pros and cons that I see in this, firstly because I see I have many ethical concerns in terms of this and animal exploitation, as I have said, exploiting animals for entertainment there is something that is very bad.

There are zoos that attract visitors prioritizing entertainment before the well-being of the animal and this means that the animal does not behave as it is in nature.

In a case of these are the forced shows in the marine parks where they make the dolphins jump for food and things like that, then this causes the animals to become a show, this creates psychological damage that because the animals while they are captive while they are closed locked up show a condition called zoocosis that are stereotypical behaviors such as self-mutilation such as vomiting such as pacing that occur due to stress and boredom then and in some cases they are injected or they are put antidepressants to handle these problems then it is altering the biology of the animal and there is also the case of euthanasia in zoos not because the breeding of animals in zoos creates excesses of animals and these animals can be sacrificed as happened for example with the giraffes marius in copenhagen or they can be sold to deficient facilities or used in private hunts that use them for entertainment there are people who do this there is an analysis of this thinking about the well-being of these animals when they are locked up versus the freedom that they are in nature.

Then I am going to detail it in this way the life expectancy true because the animals that are the wild animals their life expectancy is shorter, because this is because they are predators that get sick that they are hungry while for the animals that are in captivity the life expectancy is longer for some species because for example for veterinary care etc.

But it is also shorter for others not for example the elephants live half their lives while they are in captivity with respect to how the wild animals behave while they are in freedom because they hunt, they have their migrations and their natural social structures that is, they behave as they should be while an animal that is in a closed zoo, because it will not be able to move freely, it has restricted movement, and the social groups are artificial, and they depend exclusively on the human being then the behavior of the animal in the zoo is changing.

And this is not good at all because an animal is being shown or an animal that does not have a natural behavior, that is, we are showing a creature that people can misinterpret or generally misinterpret that it behaves that way and in reality they are seeing an animal that behaves that way because it is locked up but that is not its natural behavior.

And well another aspect also that is a key difference in the quality of life of animals is their physical health, wild animals are true when they are not in captivity they have more genetic diversity because they adapt to the different challenges, while the animals that are in captivity are true they are usually more obese they are very prone to infections and disorders by endogamy then captivity can reduce the immediate threat.

For example all those hunters in Africa that kill animals and sell them on the market but it denies the autonomy of animals and natural experiences because there is the example of cetaceans that while they are put in tanks they swim in a circle in reality of traveling all the thousands of kilometers or hundreds of kilometers a day that they travel in their natural environment and this is locked up traveling in a circle psychologically damages the fish and causes muscle atrophy then we are doing damage to those animals.

In addition to the fact that there is a problem with this of zoos also because the funds are poorly distributed, the zoos allocate less than 4.2 percent of their income to conversation in situ the protection of habitat and use most of these income in exhibitions and marketing.

Then this is an obvious problem in addition to the fact that very few of the programs that are in zoos release animals back to nature by citing an example 3 only 3 of 400 pandas raised in captivity survive when released not precisely because the animals as they are in captivity do not learn to have the behavior and skills they have when they live in their natural space.

In addition to the fact that people who go to zoos have as a priority to educate themselves because most of the people go only to entertain themselves to recreate watching the tiger or the bear or the locked-up elephant in reality I think that this can be solved true with technology and having documentaries and also using virtual reality to see the animals how they behave in their environment ok and having sanctuaries where there is no intervention of human beings because we can solve this problem.

I personally believe that zoos are only necessary when they are facilities that prioritize the rescue of animals, when they are injured or animals that are decommissioned, because they were going to be sold.

I believe that all governments must allocate funds to protect the habitats of animals and that they fight against theft and prioritize sanctuaries, instead of zoological. So that they can take the animals to those protected areas where there is no human intervention of any kind, and where the animals can be freely.

I think that this is the solution and essentially beacuse the animals belong to nature not to a zoo.
Because as long as they are locked up the animals are being served that is, they are exhibiting them as entertainment and that should not be, because they should not be made for the common, they should not be at the disposal of human curiosity.

They must put the interests of the animals first and not the interests of human beings.
