Normalizing Violence? The Impact of Entertainment and News on Behavior

"Constant exposure to violent media desensitizes and normalizes aggression."
This is a publication based on the suggested topic proposed in the Hive Learners community through their discord, which on this occasion is "Violence".
Welcome, my loyal and frequent readers, to this blog. Today’s topic is violence, and it’s inevitable that in today’s world we are surrounded by violence, primarily because Hollywood and television bombard us with it constantly. And as human beings, we feel a morbid pleasure in everything violent: in gossip, in the perverse side of humanity, because we always want to see what happened—the blood, the fire, the robbery, or the person who suffered an accident or said something inappropriate in a speech or on a public stage. These are things that grab attention, topics that trend, and inevitably sell a lot, because advertisers in film and television can insert their promotions when this type of information or news goes viral. And that’s why violence sells so much. I believe that, without a doubt, entertainment and media cause certain behaviors to become normalized in people through constant exposure to violent content. To combat this problem, well, we must address it in multiple ways. I think it’s very important to teach people to put themselves in others’ shoes, to solve problems through dialogue and communication from an early age, because this should be taught in schools and families from the beginning. I also believe that the media plays a crucial role: they must regulate violence in movies and their broadcast schedules, so that children and teenagers don’t have access to this type of material without supervision from a guardian, relative, or mentor who can help them understand that it’s violent fiction, learning to distinguish between reality and fantasy. Today, I think it’s vital to show content creators and platforms that they must produce content that promotes constructive messages, messages that help improve the world. I believe this is a very important factor. There’s another point that needs work: creating dignified employment for everyone, ensuring all people have access to basic services like water, electricity, and education. This fosters equality and directly prevents violence, because when people lack access to basic services and good jobs, they become violent. I believe this primarily helps maintain a better world and makes people less violent, because in a happy environment, they’ll have, let’s say, access to more opportunities: to create, to focus on art, invention, and science. So, I believe promoting a true culture of peace and using sports, art, and culture as tools to foster peace and build non-violent citizens is very positive and encourages critical thinking, which is what we need today. As I mentioned earlier, people must learn to differentiate between fiction and reality. The world requires people who are prepared, who build the future, who leave generations of relief an advanced, technological society, where living is pleasant, having spaces to explore all those mysteries of life, and where people can take care of progressing, really getting the best out of themselves and thus manage to give the next evolutionary leap as space. Who knows if in the future we transform ourselves into a universal power as a recognized planet? We need people who think critically, who analyze critically, and for this, education in schools is essential—even education for adults—because this is a crucial issue to avoid promoting violence and to build a better world, which is what we all want today. Nothing normal about violence, even as it becomes "normalized". It seems difficult to believe that violence would become "new normal", but if it's something we're exposed to regularly, it's just another day. !BBH
It is very worrying to see how stupid challenges by adolescents are viralized by social networks, such as leaving home for 3 days without saying anything to parents, those are also forms of violence!

Media regulation of the violence in movies will go a long way in the reduction of violence in the society.

It's regrettable how violence, selfishness, apathy, and the lack of morals, ethics, and human values that we need to recover are effectively normalized these days.
Articles like this one you've given us are so necessary in these times.
