Living with Noise and Water Pollution: My Personal Struggle

"Urban living often comes with hidden costs: noise, pollution, and stress."
This is a publication based on the suggested topic proposed in the Hive Learners community through their discord, which on this occasion is "Cause Of Pollution".
Welcome, dear readers and frequent visitors to my blog. Today, I come to talk to you about the causes of pollution. This is a very interesting topic because, in my case, I have to, let's say, suffer or survive several of them. To get into the subject, the main cause of pollution where I live, I can say with complete certainty, is noise pollution. Talking about noise pollution is something that really helps me achieve catharsis. Here, I live in an area where my building is located right on a main avenue that is very busy with vehicles and public transportation that runs until nine or ten at night, when people are supposed to be calm and, in many cases, sleeping in their homes. The noise of horns and engines really disturbs us. Adding to this, we live near a very popular area, and the custom of people with limited resources is to play music until late at night and throw parties. Of course, this brings the inconvenience that those of us who live nearby cannot fall asleep. This is the case for me and also for a neighbor of mine who was a great friend and couldn't sleep precisely because his apartment faced this popular neighborhood where they held parties until dawn, not letting him sleep. He is a very elderly person, almost 85 years old, and neither he nor his wife can sleep because of this. The noise from building repairs is also very annoying because of the constant hammering and the sounds that are clearly heard when people open water taps or flush the toilet, making the water circulate. All these noises from the water flowing are heard and are quite bothersome. And when you're sleeping peacefully, they wake you up. This creates many problems. Although local authorities have decreed municipal ordinances to regulate these situations, with laws specifying that if a person is making noise or if there is a certain level of noise emissions, that person will be fined and sanctioned, most of the time this is hardly enforced. Usually, what happens is that they call the police, and the police only give a warning to the neighbor or the person causing the disturbance, often using a megaphone from their vehicle, trying to expose the neighbor or the person causing the nuisance. In some cases, this works because the person feels ashamed when their name is mentioned by the police in front of the whole community. But lately, it seems this doesn't work anymore because the person doesn't care; in fact, they find it funny to be named by the police. Another pollution problem we have here is with water. The water doesn't come filtered with the required processes to make it completely potable, and it arrives with many solid residues. This is a problem in our neighborhood because the tank where we store the water that reaches us has walls that accumulate a lot of dirt, and this dirt drains into the water that goes up to our building. As a result, we have brownish water that is not optimal for human consumption. Also, the treatment plants we have often don't process the water properly, and it comes with solid residues. This is a problem for us, for the entire population, because we don't enjoy potable, quality water. This causes many illnesses. Personally, it has caused me kidney problems and certain skin conditions because, having to bathe with this type of water, I get progressively sick. To avoid this, what I do is try to boil the water for 90 minutes, and even then, I keep getting sick. As for noise pollution, what I do is use swimming earplugs, and that has helped me sleep. Although it has been dangerous at times because, with the high crime rate in the area where I live, when someone has tried to break into my home by forcing the locks, I haven't heard it and have been at risk of being robbed. In fact, it has already happened to me once, but that's another story. Of course, there are other causes of pollution that I haven't mentioned here and that are also very important, such as mental pollution, which includes all those negative thoughts, emotions, and stress that affect mental clarity, information overload, and toxic influences, which are personal relationships or environments that generate a lot of anxiety. But that's a topic for another time, as is pollution from social media. And this is what I can say about the causes of pollution. I hope you enjoyed this brief exposition, and until next time. I can imagine how disturbing noise pollution can be, sometimes it affects my mental health because I won't just be able to concentrate
It is terrible, due to the noise I have become hypersensitive, and before any bugle noise, or steps on the roof I hear, I get very irritable, that causes changes in my mood. I have not been able to solve it with meditation, only with drugs, and I do not like using chemicals.
Do you consider leaving the area?
Of course, not only the area, but the country. If I could do it, believe me that years ago I would have done it. I am condemned to live in a country and in a place that I despise with all my being ... but my friend's life is.
I think the issue of noise pollution is something that should be handled by your community, seeing as the police refuse to do so. When I was in school, the place I lived banned loud noises from 10pm. Anyone that violated this order would have whatever was making the noise seized. It could be generators, music boxes, or whatever. It was seized and only returned after a fine was paid. This was done by vigilantes though, not cops. I don't know if that's a thing that can work in your area.
Here and on one occasion I put a formal complaint before the community to denounce the neighbor of the top floor for noises, and ended up putting against me and continued making noise, so it was useless to formally and in writing my complaint. The problem with this is that they continue to make noise late at night and I have lost my metal health. Here in my neighborhood, people do what they think, it is a total anarchy. And as I am someone who lives alone and without a family, I have no one to support me against families of 6 or 7 people who join all against me to make noise. They are 7, there are 7 versions against me, that I am only 1 person. So I can do nothing more to resist, it is a hard reality.
Oops... that sucks. Sorry to hear that. If only there was a way to give them a dose of their own medicine. Let them know just how much their noise was disturbing you.
I did it some time ago(you can read the whole episode here), in an attack of rebellion (and being drunk -it was alcoholic in those times, I am no longer -) with a stick of the broom hit the roof of my neighbors throughout the night, of course this brought me many problems, for not letting them sleep not only to them but many more neighbors, discussions and blah blah blah. The point is that this is no use, because they have spent years and continue to do the same, they are a reason for people, believe me that I detest them with all my being.
Omo... I get you now...
It's just sad!
Yes, it is, it is very disgusting. For me it is a great challenge for my mental health (which has deteriorated a lot) to live in this way.
I do the best to keep myself well, so I have decided to isolate myself from everything I consider toxic.
😀
That's the best option, my brother!
You're doing well!
I am fortunate to now live in a quiet place, but I fully understand the problems caused by noise pollution. For decades I lived in the center of Madrid and suffered from the noise in the area. About the water, it should not be normal that something so basic comes home contaminated. You know that I am sorry that all these things happen to you. Surely if you were not exposed to these forms of pollution, mental pollution would be less.
Best regards, @manclar.
I totally agree, and I would not be as physically and mentally sick as I find.
I celebrate that you lead a peaceful, relaxed and quiet life, because as you have to drink brown water like me, I am not sure how strong your body is to support all the damage.
Anyway, here I continue to fight, there is only 1 day for the 20 ...
We will wait those 24 hours, let me know....
Yes, you know, stay prepared, I will be notifying you as soon as I receive news.
ok
I used to live in a big city busy like you said...My health was terrible!! living more towards the country would be a great upgrade for you!!
I want to go to live in the field. I need it for my health. I hope the lottery wins, so I invest in acquiring a million HP and I'm going to live in the field quietly 😀.
