Are We Sacrificing Long-Term Health for Short-Term Gains? The Truth About GMOs

"While GM crops boost yields and resist pests, they risk altering ecosystems and human health long-term."

This is a publication based on the suggested topic proposed in the Hive Learners community through their discord, which on this occasion is "Technology And Profits".

I will distribute 3% of the rewards obtained in this post, among the best comments, who will receive a tip when the rewards are collected.

Hello dear readers, welcome to my blog.

Today, we have a very interesting topic: technology and profits. Nowadays, we see how technology has advanced so much that it allows us to achieve feats that were once mere science fiction stories.

We once read or watched writers and media portray dreams of civilized cities with flying cars and communication through phones. And now, all of that is a reality.

Let’s talk about food.

Today, most foods have been technologically modified, whether to resist pests, be grown and ripen in shorter time periods, or to have different flavors, colors, and even shapes.

If we pay attention, there are countries in the world that grow, for example, square watermelons—a feat achieved precisely through technology.

They make the fruit grow in a square-shaped container.

All these alterations should, in principle, be understood as beneficial for humanity. But there’s a major problem we’re facing: these superfoods are being subjected to chemical processes, and we’re altering their natural state.

In other words, if a corn plant is designed to withstand certain climatic conditions, it’s because it was brought into the world that way to thrive in specific environments. By altering it, we’re also altering our environment and our planet.

This obviously has long-term consequences for our environment. If we’re used to living on a planet where plants perform photosynthesis and convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, then genetically modifying these plants to mature faster, taste different, or resist pests and conditions will likely cause them to lose or alter their ability to filter and convert carbon dioxide into oxygen.

Perhaps in the future, these plants will produce poison instead of oxygen, poisoning us.

So we’re playing God, and this is something we must not do.

We’re also failing to acknowledge the hard work our ancestors did in the fields when technology didn’t exist.

This brought other benefits: for example, our predecessors had better health and enjoyed a superior physical condition compared to today. Because they had to work harder (with no technology to ease their labor), their bodies stayed active.

In contrast, today’s sedentary lifestyles make people less inclined to work. Sedentary individuals tend to suffer from obesity, respiratory issues, and, by being less physically active, they lose resistance and tolerance to illnesses.

This doesn’t happen with farmers who remain faithful to traditional, non-technological cultivation methods. Their crops and food stay healthy.

The same applies to animals: technology is used to create "superior" breeds of cows, but these cows lose their essence.

By enhancing their taste, resilience, and milk production, we’re changing the essence and genetics of an animal.

There’s a danger—and I’m sure this will happen—that over time, the original breed will vanish.

The original cattle breed will be irreversibly lost, and we’ll never again taste the original flavor of their meat or milk. We’ve modified them so much over time with technology that original cows will disappear, as no one will breed or preserve that tradition.

I believe technology is very good for us as humans, but we must avoid these misguided practices that produce superfoods of lower quality, built on planned obsolescence.

For example, you buy a lettuce or vegetable that tastes worse than its organically grown counterpart and lasts only a day or two, even in the fridge. Meanwhile, the original lasts longer and tastes better.

We must adopt correct practices and consider this issue, because I believe we’re heading down a path where humanity will destroy itself and the planet will vanish due to all these harmful practices we’re engaging in.

All these alterations should, in principle, be understood as beneficial for humanity.

it depends, most of the time benefits the producer that can produce more with a lower cost hehe

So we’re playing God, and this is something we must not do.

Difficult, you need also to fight greed!

And yeah we are destroying ourselves and the planet! Humanity clock is tick tacking ;) probably a meteor is unlikely the cause of our extinction, but ourselves!

Humanity needs to learn better practices from technology, find a balance, greed is killing us = (, the problem is that producers think only in their pocket, in their business, and the consumers do little.

Maybe the solution is to live in the field, grow your own vegetables and raise your animals (something that is my dream, live in the field). I see this as the best alternative for a peace retirement.

I have investigated this: in Vietnam the government gives you the land if you dedicate yourself to agriculture and breeding of animals.

I have long followed the https://www.youtube.com/@primitiveskillsnet where they show how they have achieved the perfect life that I want. It can be achieved, there is nothing more than eager and of course patience 😀

Good post, @manclar. The GM issue is a matter of bad science. Biologists like Lewontin already denounced it, and what is proven is that the pesticides used in their crops are carcinogenic. It is also obvious that the promise that GMOs would end world hunger is false.

Best regards.

As always, those who have the power with their interests in between, and there the owners of the great feeds, Monsanto, and all those who are behind the genetic alterations enter. The only thing that interests them is their pockets, and we, humanity, that fuck ... what a reality 😕

Soylent Green is the future! 😱
Maybe not for us now, but in 2 or 3 generations food will be some "dust with water that restores all the necessities of the body".
Sadly, I have no doubts on this...
