The END SARS protest in Nigeria depicted on chipboard.
Hey everyone,
I am thrilled to share my latest artwork, which vividly captures a pivotal moment from the End SARS protests in Nigeria—a movement that significantly reshaped my understanding of justice, reform, and the power of collective action. This monumental uprising began in October 2020, ignited by a heartfelt call to disband the infamous Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a police unit notorious for its severe human rights abuses and extrajudicial activities.
Among the many inspiring leaders who emerged during this tumultuous time, Aisha Yesufu shone brightly as a symbol of unwavering courage and compelling eloquence. Her articulate and impassioned speeches galvanized countless Nigerians, urging them to rise against not only police brutality but also the deep-seated systemic issues that have long plagued our governance. The spirit of resilience and determination that resonated through those protests left an indelible imprint on our nation’s collective consciousness.
To provide a glimpse into my creative process, I've included the initial pen sketch that laid the groundwork for my artistic exploration:
Throughout the creation of my painting, I documented its evolution in several stages:
Finally, I am excited to unveil the completed piece, which encapsulates the essence and transformative spirit of that tumultuous yet hopeful time in our history:
Thank you for taking the time to engage with my work—I hope it resonates with you as deeply as this movement has touched my heart and soul.
