A Piece of Sky at the End of Work: When Evening Comes on the Canvas of Life

Today was a very busy day. The sun was spreading fire on my head, and I too had been working under it, sweating. It seemed that when would this day's hard work end, when would I be able to breathe a little relief. When my body completely collapsed after working in this harsh sun, a rush of fatigue came over me. The only thought was when would I return home and refresh myself a little.

As thought, so act. When the touch of cold water touched the body after the heat, it felt as if I had regained a new life. All the fatigue of the day, all the dust and dirt seemed to be washed away with that water. A strange lightness and freshness spread throughout the body. Only those who have found such satisfaction after such a day understand the value of such a piece of comfort. This feeling is truly extraordinary.

When I stood on the balcony of the house after refreshing my body, my eyes automatically went towards the sky. I was amazed to see the scene! The sky, which is only used to light blue or white during the day, seemed to have taken on a completely different form in the dim light of the evening. The last glow of the sun was spreading in the western sky, and the entire sky seemed to have become a wonderful work of art with a mixture of orange and red. It seemed as if some invisible artist had spread dark red and bright orange colors on the vast canvas of the sky with his brush. Then, slowly, dark blue and light purple touches were mixing with that redness, creating a magical atmosphere.

Seeing this magical form of the sky, a deep peace came to my mind. The fatigue of the whole day, all the worries of the mind – everything seemed to disappear in the play of colors of that sky. I just stared at it like a mesmerized person. It seemed as if nature arranges so many beautiful gifts for us every day, which we may not be able to see in our busy lives. At this moment, my mind was completely empty of all thoughts, I was just enjoying each color with my heart. It seemed that this scene could not be seen only with my eyes, it had to be embedded deep in my mind.

I have captured two pictures of that moment on my camera. You may see in the pictures, how strangely the sky is painted in orange and dark blue. And below, in the distance, something like a mountain is visible, and in front of it, some structures under construction. Looking at these structures, I felt that people are working hard day after day to create something new – just as I have worked hard all day today – and at the end of this hard work, there is a hidden joy in creating something new. These structures under construction seemed to hint at a new future, which is slowly taking shape in the soft light of this evening. It gave me a new idea – just as the sun sets at the end of the day’s work, so too does the possibility of starting something new at the end of each day.

The sight of this changing color of the sky also taught me a big lesson in life. Our lives are like that too, right? Sometimes it is bright and clear like daylight, sometimes it is gray and covered with clouds. Sometimes it is full of different colors like this evening sky. There are many difficult times in life, and then after those difficult times, there comes a good day of peace. When something breaks, it may be sad. But these structures under construction seemed to show that something new can be created from that broken thing.
