Surgir con todo en contra: la historia de Juan Gabriel / Rising against all odds: the story of Juan Gabriel

Muchas son las historias de personas que surgen entre la multitud, logrando concretar sus sueños a pesar de las circunstancias, pero en este caso, el cuento puede parecer surrealista, pues desde el inicio, en cada intento, la suerte le daba la espalda, solo que él no se quedó en la tristeza, y llegó a escalar mucho más alto que sus sueños.

Ya conocía parte de su historia, y ahora reconozco que durante mi adolescencia y juventud temprana, no era de mi agrado este personaje, pues me parecía que era una ofensa a la imagen que tenía de los cantantes de ese género musical.

Este cantante, un tanto controversial, empezó sus días siendo rechazado por su madre, quien lo dejara desde los 5 años en un internado donde no recibía visitas ni tenía salidas como los demás niños. Su fortaleza mental se forjó desde entonces, y siguiendo ese impulso se escapa de ahí a perseguir sus sueños.

Pero el primer golpe lo recibe al buscar a su madre, quien definitivamente no deseaba saber de él, aunque eso no fue un impedimento, pues con el tiempo decidió conseguir la manera de tenerla cerca, como un amigo, más que como hijo. Nunca pidió explicaciones, pues su cercanía era suficiente.

Juan Gabriel, quien realmente se llamaba Alberto Aguilera Valadez, vivió en la calle, estuvo en la cárcel y pasó por muchas situaciones que pondrían a cualquiera contra la pared, pero más pudo su ímpetu en darle un vuelco a su vida, escribiendo en cuadernitos las letras de las que luego serían sus éxitos musicales.

Por fortuna, la vida le puso en su camino a dos personas que fueron pilares en su ascenso, aunque en algún momento se distanciaran producto de malos entendidos. Esa mezcla de talentos hizo que Juan Gabriel encontrara la senda para avanzar, así como también remontar aquellas situaciones adversas que le sucedieron.

En la serie de Netflix dedicada a su vida, vemos un compendio de imágenes con grabaciones caseras que van describiendo ese tras cámaras que no somos capaces de conocer de los artistas, y que particularmente me resulta un documento invaluable, pues no todo el mundo ha pensado en documentar su vida como lo hizo él, y mucho menos en una época cuando no existía la facilidad de lo digital como en la actualidad.

Una de las cosas que me gustó ver en esta serie documental de 4 capítulos, fue su faceta de padre, que aunque causaba curiosidad por saber si eran biológicos o sobre quienes eran las madres de esos niños, demostraba que para él, lo más importante era su gran amor hacia ellos, saliendo del personaje de Juan Gabriel, para ser solo papá.

El documental titulado "Debo, puedo y quiero" contesta muchas de las preguntas que en vida, el "Divo de Juárez" decidiera dejar para que fuera el público quien sacara sus propias conclusiones, además de demostrarnos que aunque pareciera que tenemos todo en contra, si nos trazamos una meta clara, seremos capaces de llegar a encontrar el éxito.

However, he did not remain in sadness, and he managed to climb much higher than his dreams.

I already knew part of his story, and now I recognize that during my adolescence and early youth, I did not like this character, as I felt he was an offense to the image I had of singers of that musical genre.

This somewhat controversial singer began his life rejected by his mother, who left him at the age of five in a boarding school where he received no visitors and was not allowed to go out like the other children. His mental strength was forged from that moment on, and following that impulse, he escaped from there to pursue his dreams.

But he received his first blow when he went looking for his mother, who definitely did not want to know about him. However, that was not an impediment, because over time he decided to find a way to have her close to him, as a friend rather than as a son. He never asked for explanations, because their closeness was enough.

Juan Gabriel, whose real name was Alberto Aguilera Valadez, lived on the streets, was in prison, and went through many situations that would have broken anyone else, but his drive to turn his life around was stronger, writing in notebooks the lyrics that would later become his musical hits.

Fortunately, life put two people in his path who were pillars in his rise to fame, even though they drifted apart at some point due to misunderstandings. This combination of talents helped Juan Gabriel find the path forward and overcome the adverse situations he faced.

In the Netflix series dedicated to his life, we see a compendium of images with home recordings that describe the behind-the-scenes side of artists that we are unable to see, and which I find particularly invaluable, as not everyone has thought of documenting their life as he did, especially in an era when digital technology did not exist as it does today.

One of the things I liked about this four-part documentary series was his role as a father. Although it made me curious to know if they were his biological children and who their mothers were, it showed that the most important thing for him was his great love for them, stepping out of the character of Juan Gabriel to be just a dad.

The documentary, titled “Debo, puedo y quiero” (I must, I can, and I want to), answers many of the questions that the “Divo de Juárez” decided to leave unanswered during his lifetime so that the public could draw their own conclusions. It also shows us that even when it seems like everything is against us, if we set a clear goal for ourselves, we will be able to find success.
