Salí a buscar mantequilla y terminé comprando un sartén / I went out to buy butter and ended up buying a frying pan

¿No les ha pasado que en algunas oportunidades sales con la idea de comprar con una lista detallada, y terminas llegando con muchas cosas adicionales, o peor, compraste de todo, menos lo que habías anotado? En esta oportunidad me pasó a mi: fui al supermercado para comprar leche y mantequilla para hacer un puré de papas, y terminé comprando además un sartén nuevo.

Se me había llegado la hora de hacer el almuerzo y me antojé de cocinar puré de papas, pero no tenía ni leche ni mantequilla en casa, por lo que fui al supermercado a comprar rápidamente antes de que cerraran. Pero luego de buscar las cosas para lo que fui, me di una vuelta por el resto del local, para ver si había alguna otra cosa por comprar que aunque no fuera urgente, si necesitaría a futuro y así aprovechar el viaje para llevarlo todo.

Fue así como llegué a la sección de artículos de cocina y mercancía no comestible, a donde siempre me gusta ir a mirar precios y modelos, sobre todo porque desde hace mucho tengo pendiente de comprarme una batería de ollas y sartenes nuevos, pero que dejo de último en la lista de prioridades.

Y como recién cobré el pago de diciembre, sin siquiera pensar en hacer un presupuesto de los gastos pendientes, elegí uno que me sirviera para varias cosas y que fuera de cerámica, pues ese es el plan inicial, salir de las ollas con teflón que me regalaron hace 7 años cuando llegué a este país, para adquirir productos de calidad y duraderos.

Cuando llegué a casa, y saqué mi nuevo sartén estilo planchita, mis ollas viejas entendieron que el cambio se viene sin vuelta atrás, así que les agradezco mucho todo lo que han hecho por mi estos años, pero parte del camino del merecimiento que he empezado a transitar depende no solo de mis pensamientos y acciones, sino también de las cosas de las que me rodeo y me son útiles.

Mi viejo sartén sin mango, que estaba por ser lavado, recibirá esa última caricia de mis manos, para luego ser colocado en la caja de cosas por regalar que he ido llenando paso a paso en la limpieza anual de mi casa.

Y es que por mucho, esos cambios que sabemos necesarios, pero que vamos dejando para luego, cuando se llega el impulso hay que asumirlos con valor, por eso, aunque en el camino de regreso a casa mi yo responsable pensaba en cómo iba a reajustar los gastos, mi yo aventurero traía con orgullo en la bolsa de compra, la mantequilla, la leche y el nuevo sartén.

This happened to me recently: I went to the supermarket to buy milk and butter to make mashed potatoes, and I ended up buying a new frying pan as well.

It was time to make lunch, and I felt like cooking mashed potatoes, but I didn't have any milk or butter at home, so I went to the supermarket to buy some quickly before they closed. But after finding the things I went for, I took a look around the rest of the store to see if there was anything else I could buy that, although not urgent, I would need in the future, so I could take advantage of the trip to get everything.

That's how I ended up in the kitchenware and non-food section, where I always like to look at prices and models, especially because I've been meaning to buy a new set of pots and pans for a long time, but I always put it at the bottom of my priority list.

And since I just got my December paycheck, without even thinking about budgeting for pending expenses, I chose one that would serve me for several purposes and that was ceramic, since that is the initial plan: to get rid of the Teflon pots that were given to me seven years ago when I arrived in this country and to purchase quality, durable products.

When I got home and took out my new griddle-style pan, my old pots understood that the change was coming and there was no turning back, so I am very grateful for everything they have done for me over the years, but part of the path of merit that I have begun to walk depends not only on my thoughts and actions, but also on the things that surround me and are useful to me.

My old pan without a handle, which was about to be washed, will receive that last caress from my hands, and then be placed in the box of things to give away that I have been filling step by step during the annual cleaning of my house.

The fact is that, for the most part, those changes that we know are necessary but that we keep putting off until later, when the impulse comes, must be taken on with courage. That's why, even though on the way home my responsible self was thinking about how I was going to readjust my expenses, my adventurous self proudly carried the butter, milk, and new frying pan in the shopping bag.
