I see you

Usually when I'm bored I go to mobile photo apps like Pinterest or websites like Pixabay to browse through published images.

The image above is from Pixabay and the second I looked at it, all I could hear was "I see you."

Anyone can understand why I'd think that, the bird is so clearly implying it.

It had me thinking, call it reflecting, if you may, on how so much of what we go about doing daily is some big performance, leaving little to no room for originality.

I consume an unhealthy amount of content daily. From hive frontends to X feeds, a little Tiktok and YouTube here and there and some news from direct sources and when all that causes a migraine, I retire to my photo apps.

If people are being categorized for what roles they play in the digital space, I would fall comfortably into the consumer category because I haven't quite been able to make it out of just scrolling, into creating or even just contributing more through comments.

But I really do not want to talk about me. There's not much action here to cover.

I specifically want to talk about the performance I see around.

Without revealing specifics, I've come across to embrace the idea that most people wear a mask and their entire personality is a performance.

What is most interesting yet troubling is that there appears to be a belief that this performance or mask serves them, but I struggle to see how that is true.

If I am doing something I hate, for monetary benefits perhaps, I'm most likely going to try to justify my suffering by putting the money forward as evidence that this thing serves me, even though it just steals away my time for something that gets devalued each year and will probably be spent on sugar that hurts my body.

This is the reality most people live in. So when I say I see you, I mean that I see past the performance.
