A search for a permanent witness

Most people don't know what they want out of life but everyone knows what they want from love and today a colleague posted a screenshot of a Twitter post and wrote the caption, “Life is but a search for a permanent witness” and I just had to put some thoughts down.

The X post said:

I think the purest form of love is just wanting someone to notice life with you. “taste this, look at that, hear this song” again and again, until you can't imagine noticing life without them.

I read this and my colleague’s caption over and over again and all I could think of was a movie I recently saw.

I watched a romance film a while back and I can remember constantly thinking about how crazy people get over love, the level of crazy you don't see for anything else.

While the movie itself wasn't exactly suggesting the search for a permanent witness, it revealed that “noticing things” mattered.

Like noticing what a partner loves, noticing their potential, noticing their weaknesses, noticing their strengths.

These all, coming together, helps one be the best partner to those they are in a relationship with.

Now moving away from this, I wanted to comment on something else.

If life is indeed a search for a permanent witness, this leaves us with a conclusion that many have held so closely through time, which is that love is all that matters, at the end of the day.

We do the difficult jobs, in search of stability, hoping to find the one, to enjoy it all with. It all comes down to that permanent witness, that together, you both will bring life and existence to things.

Because if there's one thing I hold so closely, as a belief, it is that life doesn't exist without a witness. If we have no knowledge of something, it really doesn't exist.

We can feel that something should be out there somewhere, but only through witnessing, do said things really come to life, because things only truly exist in knowledge, acquired through sight, touch or hearing.
