Today I'm bringing you one of the most well-known classics by the Brothers Grimm. Who doesn't know the story of the Three Little Pigs? It's something we've heard from generation to generation, but as I always say, when we read something in childhood and then reread it in adulthood, we always find interesting things, a certain depth that we didn't perceive when we were children because we didn't have the necessary maturity.
Hoy vengo con uno de los clásicos más conocidos de los Hermanos Grimm ¿Quién no conoce la historia de los Tres Cerditos? es algo que hemos oído de generación en generación, pero como siempre digo, cuando leemos algo en la niñez y después lo releemos en la adultez, siempre encontraremos cosas interesantes, cierta profundidad que no percibimos cuando éramos niños porque no contábamos con la madurez necesaria.
Overview/Resumen
Three little pigs, who were brothers, decided to leave their parents' house and become independent. Each of them thought about building a house for himself. The youngest pig used straw as his building material, thinking of the immediate advantages: with it, he could build a little house in just one day. The second pig opted for wood. He would have to work a little harder since he would need more tools like hammers and nails, but his house would be ready in a couple of days and was a bit stronger than his younger brother's. However, the oldest pig took much longer to build his house, about a week, since he decided to build it with bricks. His brothers watched him from their windows and made fun of him or asked him not to work so hard because it wasn't necessary. But he replied that it was necessary because he wanted a solid house that could protect him from much more than the sun and rain; it had to protect him from the wind and especially from the big bad wolf. But his brothers didn't listen to him.
Tres cerditos que eran hermanos decidieron salir de la casa de sus padres e independizarse, cada uno de ellos pensó en construir una casa para sí mismo. El cerdito menor usó paja como material ya que pensó en las ventajas inmediatas, con ella podría construir una casita en solo un día, el segundo optó por usar madera, tendría que trabajar un poco más duro ya que tendría que usar más herramientas como martillos y clavos pero la casa estaría lista en un par de días, y era un poco más fuerte que la de su hermano menor. Sin embargo el cerdito mayor tardó mucho más tiempo en construir su casa, al rededor de una semana, ya que decidió construirla con ladrillos. Sus hermanos lo veían desde las ventanas de sus casas y se burlaban de él o le pedían que no trabajara tan duro pues no era necesario, pero él les respondía que sí lo era porque quería una casa sólida que pudiera resguardarlo de mucho más que el sol y la lluvia, debía resguardarlo del viento y en especial del lobo feroz, pero sus hermanos no le hicieron caso.
When his house was finally finished, he was ready to live in peace and enjoy the fruits of his hard work. However, the big bad wolf arrived, determined to eat the three little pigs. He walked to the first pig's house and knocked on the door, warning that if he didn't open it, he would huff and puff until he blew his house down. The little pig, of course, refused, so the wolf kept his promise. He huffed and puffed, and the flimsy straw house was destroyed. Feeling vulnerable, the little pig ran to take refuge in the second brother's house, but the wolf huffed and puffed again, blowing the wooden house down. So the brothers ran to take refuge in the eldest brother's house, and this time the wolf tried to blow it down, Then he tried to enter through the chimney, but the three little pigs put a large cauldron of water on top of the fire, so when the wolf fell into the boiling water, he ran away howling in pain and never returned to bother the little pigs.
Cuando finalmente su casa estuvo lista, estaba dispuesto a vivir en tranquilidad y disfrutar del resultado de su duro trabajo. Sin embargo el lobo feroz llegó dispuesto a comerse a los tres cerditos, caminó hacia la casa del primero y tocó la puerta advirtiendo que si no le abría soplaría y soplaría hasta derribar su casa, el cerdito obviamente se negó, así que el lobo cumplió la promesa, sopló con fuerza y la endeble casita de paja quedó destruida, así que el cerdito al verse vulnerable, corrió a refugiarse a la casa del segundo hermano, pero el lobo volvió a soplar con fuerza, derribando la casa de madera, de modo que los hermanos corrieron a refugiarse a la casa del hermano mayor, y en esta ocasión el lobo intentó derribarla pero no pudo, luego intentó ingresar por la chimenea, pero los tres cerditos pusieron un gran caldero con agua encima del fuego, así que cuando el lobo cayó sobre el agua hirviendo, salió huyendo dando aullidos de dolor y no regresó jamás a molestar a los cerditos.
My Opinion/Mi Opinión
The story is clearly a lesson in the importance of perseverance, effort, and hard work. These qualities represent stability and, obviously, lead to security. But when we analyze it more deeply, we can find many similarities with early adulthood. Young adults often want to become independent, explore new paths, and make their own decisions. Some are so impatient that they prefer to follow their own criteria, ignoring the warnings or advice of their parents or other older, more experienced people. They are eager to live their own lives, but in this pursuit, they build a fleeting legacy that only provides a false sense of security. Others, more astute, do prefer to listen to and put into practice advice that can be useful. They critically observe everything around them, anticipate events, think of solutions before problems arise, and work hard. Even if it takes months or years, the result of their effort manifests as stability and security.
El cuento claramente es una lección de la importancia de la constancia, el esfuerzo y el trabajo duro, esto representa solidez y obviamente deriva en seguridad, pero cuando lo analizamos a fondo podemos encontrar muchas similitudes con la adultez temprana. Usualmente los jóvenes adultos quieren independizarse, buscar otros rumbos y tomar decisiones propias, algunos de ellos son tan impacientes que prefieren seguir sus propios criterios ignorando las advertencias o consejos de sus padres o demás personas mayores que tienen experiencia, están deseosos de vivir su propia vida pero en este afán construyen un patrimonio efímero que solo otorga una seguridad aparente, mientras que otros, más astutos, sí prefieren oír y poner en práctica los consejos que pueden servirle, mira con ojo crítico todo a su alrededor, se anticipa a eventos, piensa en soluciones antes de que lleguen los problemas, trabaja duro y aunque le lleve meses o años, el resultado de su esfuerzo se manifiesta en solidez y seguridad.
The story speaks of a sense of responsibility; sometimes laziness or a lack of judgment can even cost us our lives, and the little pigs understood this when they felt threatened. It's also a story about empathy and teamwork: the eldest pig didn't hesitate to protect his brothers, not judging them for their laziness or lack of common sense because he knew the scare they'd had was more than enough. Instead, he sheltered them with brotherly love, and together they worked as a team to find a way to teach the wolf a lesson and protect themselves at the same time.
La historia habla del sentido de responsabilidad, a veces la pereza o la falta de criterio incluso podría costarnos la vida, y los cerditos lo entendieron cuando se sintieron en peligro. Por otra parte también es una historia sobre empatía y trabajo en equipo: el cerdito mayor no dudó en resguardar a sus hermanos, no los juzgó por su pereza o falta de sensatez porque sabía que con el susto que habían tenido era más que suficiente, en cambio los resguardó con amor fraternal, y juntos trabajaron en equipo para encontrar la manera de darle una lección al lobo y protegerse al mismo tiempo.
And analyzing the story in a little more depth, I found something very interesting that took me back to the time I studied a bit of child psychology at university. The story could have references to Sigmund Freud's famous "Superego," which refers to the image we have of ourselves based on the internalization of parental figures and social norms. In other words, it's when we begin to form our judgment based on a sense of responsibility and the consequences of our actions, something evident in the older pig (who is able to analyze each situation in detail and even foresee dangers).
Y analizando el cuento con un poquito más de profundidad encontré algo muy interesante y que me llevó a la época en la que estudié un poco de psicología infantil en la universidad, y es que la historia podría tener referencias al famoso "Superyo" o "Superego" de Sigmund Freud, esto se refiere a la imagen que tenemos de nosotros mismos basada en la internalización de las figuras paternas y las normas sociales, es decir, cuando se comienza a formar el criterio en base al sentido de la responsabilidad y consecuencia de los actos, algo que se evidencia en el cerdito mayor (capaz de analizar con detalle cada situación y hasta de prever peligros)

La historia que yo siempre te contaba de chiquita, los tres cochinitos son un ejemplo de trabajo en equipo y de constancia pero también de paciencia, a veces los proyectos se pueden tardar más pero al final de cuentas el resultado es mejor.
