The Chronicles of Narnia, [The Silver Chair] Review ESP/ENG

This is the sixth book of the saga and one of the ones I like the most for several reasons that I will tell you later in this post, it is also the only one in which the Penvensie brothers are not mentioned at all, although by logic I assume that within the Narnia universe they still maintained the same importance. As in the previous books, new characters and new experiences arise here, but without further ado, let's start with the summary of the story to give you a better context.
Este es el sexto libro de la saga y uno de los que más me gusta por varias razones que ya les contaré más adelante en este post, es también el único en el cuál no se menciona en absoluto a los hermanos Penvensie, aunque por lógica presumo que dentro del universo de Narnia ellos seguían manteniendo la misma importancia. Al Igual que en los libros anteriores aquí surgen nuevos personajes y nuevas experiencias, pero sin más dilación comencemos con el resumen de la historia para darles un mejor contexto.
Overview/Resumen
On this occasion Eustace (the former presumed cousin of the Pevensie) returns to Narnia, but now accompanied by his friend Jill by direct invitation of Aslan himself, to this adventure joins Puddleglum (The Marsh-wiggle) who has a very appropriate name as it is extremely pessimistic, together they have to defeat the Lady of the Green Kirtle in a kind of underworld, although she will try to insist that Narnia does not exist and never existed, all this with the aim of weakening the faith of the protagonists. On the other hand King Caspian the Tenth is very old and on his deathbed, but the queen will try to prevent Prince Rilian (son of the king) to take the throne that rightfully belongs to him, and she keeps him captive and enslaved in that lower kingdom full of malevolent creatures, so one of the missions of Jill, Eustace and Puddleglum is to rescue the prince who will join the fight to defeat the evil witch.
En esta ocasión Eustace (el ex presumido primo de los Pevensie) regresa a Narnia, pero ahora acompañado por su amiga Jill por invitación directa del propio Aslan, a esta aventura se suma Charco Sombrío (El meneo de la marisma) quien tiene un nombre muy apropiado ya que es extremadamente pesimista, juntos tienen que derrotar a la reina verde en una especie de mundo subterráneo, aunque ella tratará de insistir en que Narnia no existe y jamás existió, todo esto con el objetivo de debilitar la fe de los protagonistas. Por otra parte el rey Caspian décimo está muy anciano y en su lecho de muerte, pero la reina tratará de impedir que el príncipe Rilian (hijo del rey) tome el trono que le corresponde por derecho, y ella lo mantiene cautivo y esclavizado en ese reino inferior lleno de criaturas malévolas, así que una de las misiones de Jill, Eustace y Charco sombrío es rescatar al príncipe quien se unirá a la lucha para derrotar a la malvada bruja.
My Opinion/Mi Opinión
Let's see, where do I start? I think precisely from the beginning since it is there where the first element that catches my attention and that I liked the most in the whole book appears, I mean the fact that Aslan and Caspian showed up in person in Eustace's world to look for him, and Aslan scared the kids that bothered the boy at school, I like this scene because it is the first time Aslan goes there (by now we know that no one gets to Narnia the same way twice) but taking into account what I have told you about the spiritual references in Lewis' novels, I dare to take this scene as a metaphor of what will be the second coming of Christ: unexpected, terrifying for some, a relief for others, an event that will undoubtedly mark the end of one era and the beginning of another, if you want a change you must follow him through his instructions.
A ver ¿Por dónde empiezo? Creo que precisamente desde el principio ya que es allí donde aparece el primer elemento que llama mi atención y que más me ha gustado de todo el libro, me refiero al hecho en si de que Aslan y Caspian se hayan presentado en persona en el mundo de Eustace para buscarlo, y Aslan asustó a los chicos que molestaban al muchacho en la escuela, me gusta esta escena porque es la primera vez que Aslan va hacia allá (a estas alturas ya sabemos que nadie llega a Narnia de la misma manera dos veces) pero tomando en cuenta lo que yo les he contado a ustedes sobre las referencias espirituales de las novelas de Lewis, yo me atrevo a tomar esta escena como una metáfora de lo que será la segunda venida de cristo: inesperada, aterradora para algunos, un alivio para otros, un evento que sin dudas marcará el fin de una era y el inicio de otra, si quieres un cambio debes seguirlo a través de sus instrucciones.
Of all the characters I felt very identified with Charco Sombrío, because unfortunately that's how I am most of the time, pessimistic, I find it hard to be confident, and unfortunately so are many in this world, but without intending to justify ourselves, I think this is because as we grow up and lose the innocence of children, we discover the less flattering and more disturbing side of the world: envy, evil, hatred, greed, violence, in short, everything that contaminates the human soul and leads it to commit the worst atrocities, sometimes in the name of “love” “justice” and even “faith” and of course this undermines confidence and faith in humanity itself, makes you expect less and less good things and more and more disappointments, in short, the pessimist does not want to create expectations that feed what could be false hopes that end in painful disappointments, but it is precisely there where faith must act, faith is the blind certainty that something good will happen, even against all odds, so it is easy to say “I have faith” but in reality it is more difficult to feel it, however it is not impossible if you really are a believer and you want it.
De todos los personajes yo me sentí muy identificada con Charco Sombrío, porque lamentablemente así soy yo la mayoría del tiempo, pesimista, me cuesta tener confianza, y lamentablemente así somos muchos en este mundo, pero sin intención de justificarnos, creo esto se debe a que a medida que crecemos y perdemos la inocencia nata de los niños, vamos descubriendo el lado menos favorecedor y más perturbador del mundo: las envidias, la maldad, el odio, la codicia, la violencia, en fin, todo lo que contamina el alma humana y la lleva a cometer las peores atrocidades, a veces en nombre del "amor" "la justicia" e incluso "la fe" y desde luego esto va minando la confianza y la fe en la propia humanidad, hace que cada vez esperes menos cosas buenas y más decepciones, en resumen, el pesimista no quiere crear expectativas que alimenten lo que podrían ser falsas esperanzas que terminen en dolorosas decepciones, pero es precisamente allí donde debe actuarla fe, la fe es la certeza ciega de que algo bueno va a suceder, incluso contra todo pronóstico, por eso es fácil decir "tengo fe" pero en realidad es más difícil sentirla, sin embargo no es imposible si de verdad eres creyente y lo deseas.
But it was precisely he who, least expected by the audience, saved them from a spell of the Lady of the green Kirtle, by hitting the fire with his webbed paw (burning himself in the process but breaking the spell), which we could take as a metaphor that great changes require sacrifices. When you get rid of pessimism and decide to open your eyes to the truth, that you yourself can change that fact that makes you uncomfortable or hurts you in some way, then you feel that your body is invaded with energy to fight even more impetus, after all the truth is too bright to get lost in the midst of the dark fog of pessimism, and I confirm this through the own words of Puddleglum towards the Lady of the green kirtle, a wonderful speech in which it is worth noting the following: “I am on Aslan's side even if there is no Aslan to lead him. I will live as a Narnian even if there is no Narnia. ”
Pero fue precisamente él quien, quien menos lo esperaba la audiencia, el que los salvó de un hechizo de la reina de la saya verde, al golpear con su pata palmeada el fuego (quemándose en el proceso pero rompiendo el hechizo) lo que podríamos tomar como una metáfora de que los grandes cambios requieren de sacrificios. Cuando te deshaces del pesimismo y te decides a abrir los ojos a la verdad, a que tú mismo puedes cambiar ese hecho que te incomoda o te hace daño de alguna forma, entonces sientes que tu cuerpo se invade de energía para luchar aún con más ímpetu, al fin y al cabo la verdad es demasiado brillante como para perderse en medio de la niebla oscura del pesimismo, y lo confirmo a través de las propias palabras de Charco sombrío hacia la reina de la saya verde, un discurso maravilloso en el cual vale la pena destacar lo siguiente: "Estoy del lado de Aslan aunque no haya ningún Aslan que lo dirija. Viviré como un narniano aunque no exista Narnia. "
For me the witch symbolizes all those ideas or people who in some way or another want to destroy your faith because they only want to worship themselves and their ideas, because they can't stand the idea that even with all their power they are just another inhabitant of this world, equally vulnerable and mortal, like all of us, besides, weakening the faith of others causes hopelessness, and hopeless people are an easy target for manipulation.
Para mi la bruja simboliza todas aquellas ideas o personas que de alguna forma u otra quieren destruir tu fe porque solo desean el culto hacia ellos mismos y a sus ideas, debido a que no soportan la idea de que aún con todo su poder no pasan de ser unos habitantes más de este mundo, igualmente vulnerables y mortales, como todos nosotros, además, debilitar la fe de otros causa desesperanza, y las personas desesperanzadas son un blanco fácil para la manipulación.
The silver chair represents the power of the witch, so when it is destroyed, the influence she had over Prince Rilian finally ends. This fact in itself symbolizes the victory of good over evil.
La silla de plata por su parte representa el poder de la bruja, por eso cuando es destruida se termina finalmente la influencia que ella tenía sobre el príncipe Rilian. Este hecho en si simboliza la victoria del bien sobre el mal.
Undoubtedly this story highlights the value of trust and how it can change your perspective on yourself and the world around you, it makes you understand that the opinion that others have should not define your character, in addition, another similarity with the real world that we find in this book is that it shows us the battle of good against evil through two different confrontations, one external (the witch, the monsters and the dangers of the nature of that hostile environment) and the other (the most dangerous) is the internal confrontation: lack of faith and ignorance, in short, everything that makes you really vulnerable to evil.
Sin lugar a dudas esta historia destaca el valor de la confianza y como esta puede cambiar tu perspectiva sobre ti mismo y el mundo que te rodea, te hace entender que la opinión que otros tienen no debe definir tu carácter, además, otra similitud con el mundo real que encontramos en este libro es que nos muestra batalla del bien contra el mal a través de dos enfrentamientos diferentes, uno externo (la bruja, los monstruos y los peligros propios de la naturaleza de ese entorno hostil) y el otro (el más peligroso) es el enfrentamiento interno: la falta de fe y la ignorancia, en fin, todo lo que te vuelve realmente vulnerable a la maldad.
And well friends this has been my review and analysis of this wonderful book, we only have one more to finish the saga. Honestly and for all the reasons I exposed through this post I consider The Chronicles of Narnia as one of the best sagas in the world, because everything you find there, in one way or another is much more than fantasy, it's more than a reflection of real life 😉 Thank you very much for your attention, see you another time 🤗

Me pasa algo súper raro con las crónicas de Narnia ,yo me hice super fan de las películas jajja tanto que me buscaba los resúmenes con la info y me metía en foros de Narnia (era de esa generación jajja ) y los libros siempre los pospuse, hasta que hace unos años me anime a leerlo y me leí el niño y su caballo y no fue nada lo que esperaba ,creo que al leerlo de adulta tenía una espectativas muy altas pensando que el libro sería más como un juego de tronos (totalmente mi culpa sabiendo que se supone que son infantiles -juveniles) ,y no los continúe, pero espero que algún día los retome y terminar esa espinita de saber todo la historia detallada
Es que el problema es que empezaste precisamente por un libro donde los Pevensie no son los protagonistas y tú llevabas las expectativas de las películas que se centraron únicamente en ellos. Narnia es un universo muy pero muy vasto que compende muchas cosas, y cuando lo lees a profanidad te sorprendes al darte cuenta que es todo menos infantil, de hecho tiene muchas referencias políticas, sociales y hasta espirituales maravillosas. Te recomiendo iniciar desde 0, el primer libro, El Sobrino y el mago, porque es el génesis de Narnia, ves como se forma, comprendes el origen de las cosas. El caballo y el muchacho es el tercero
