After reading Tom Sawyer, it's time to move on to the sequel, and let me tell you that I found this book much more dynamic than the previous one. Written by the talented Mark Twain, this sequel will immerse us in a universe of unforgettable experiences, adventures that will lead its protagonists to great personal development in which freedom is valued above all else.
Después de leer Tom Sawyer, ha llegado el momento de seguir con la secuela, y permítanme adelantarles que este libro me pareció mucho más dinámico que el anterior, escrito por el talentoso Mark Twain, esta secuela nos sumergirá en un universo de experiencias inolvidables, aventuras que conducirán a sus protagonistas a un gran desarrollo personal en el cuál se valora la libertad ante todo.
Overview/Resumen
Huck was more of a secondary character in the previous novel, Tom Sawyer, but here he is the protagonist. He is tired of living in “civilization” because he simply feels that it clips his wings. His aunt forces him to go to church and follow Christian practices, while his alcoholic father constantly humiliates and mistreats him, even kidnapping him and keeping him isolated in a cabin. So for all these reasons, Huck decides to fake his death and flee across the river. On his way, he encounters Jim, a runaway slave who wants to reunite with his family. Although at first Huck was unsure about running away with a slave, not knowing if this would bring him more problems, Jim eventually wins his trust and the two become friends. During their journey, both characters faced and overcame challenges, encountering unscrupulous people who went through life swindling others. To make matters worse, Jim (the slave) is caught and sold to a farm, from which Huck and his old friend Tom plan to rescue him.
Huck era más bien un personaje secundario de la novela anterior, Tom Sawyer, pero aquí es el protagonista, él está cansado de vivir en la "civilización" porque simplemente siente que esto le corta las alas, su tía lo obliga a ir a la iglesia y seguir las prácticas cristianas, mientras que su padre alcohólico lo humilla y lo maltrata constantemente, incluso lo secuestró y lo mantuvo aislado en una cabaña, así que por todas estas razones Huck decide fingir su muerte y huir a través del río. En su camino se topa con Jim, un esclavo fugitivo que desea reunirse con su familia, y aunque al inicio Huck no estaba seguro de querer huir junto a un esclavo al no saber si esto le traería más problemas, finalmente se gana su confianza y ambos se convierten en amigos. Durante la travesía ambos personajes enfrentaron y superaron desafíos, encontrándose con personas inescrupulosas que iban por la vida estafando a los demás, para colmo Jim (el esclavo) es atrapado y vendido a una granja, de la cuál Huck y su viejo amigo Tom planean rescatarlo.
My Opinion/Mi Opinión
This book is very unique because, in order to achieve a greater connection with his characters and an efficient reflection of what rural life was like at the time, the author used unconventional language in his narrative, even considered crude and vulgar, but I think it was this very thing that made it so authentic and realistic. It is a dynamic read and therefore quite entertaining. It is also not too long, only about 240 pages, so it is a quick read. But what appeals to me most about this story is that, on this occasion, Mark Twain once again offers harsh social criticism through the experiences of his characters, the way in which the environment enforced absurd rules in the name of preserving “morality” and “good manners” when in reality they enslaved and despised people, committing injustices simply because they could and wanted to.
Este libro es muy particular porque en aras de lograr una mayor conexión con sus personajes y un eficiente reflejo de lo que fue la vida rural de la época, el autor uso un lenguaje poco convencional en su narrativa, incluso considerado soez y vulgar, pero creo que fue esto mismo lo que lo volvió tan auténtico y realista, es una lectura dinámica y por lo tanto bastante divertida, además no tiene demasiadas páginas, solo unas 240, así que se lee muy rápido, pero lo que más me atrae de esta historia es que en esta ocasión Mark Twain vuelve a hacer duras criticas sociales a través de las vivencias de sus personajes, la manera en que el entorno forzaba normas absurdas en aras de preservar la "moralidad" y "las buenas costumbres" cuando en realidad esclavizaban y despreciaban personas, cometían injusticias solo porque podían y querían.
Another element to consider is the significant evolution of the characters, especially the protagonist, Huckleberry, who becomes more responsible and mature, but without losing his characteristic love of freedom. However, he now understands that freedom is not simply about doing what you want or going where you want, but about taking responsibility for your actions and decisions. In this sense, Huck prioritizes nature and the simple life over the civilization he knows, which always stigmatizes and judges. On the other hand, I believe that the Mississippi River (practically the main setting) takes on a poetic and symbolic meaning, as I consider it to represent freedom.
Otro elemento a tomar en cuenta es la gran evolución de sus personajes, en especial el protagonista, Huckleberry, el cuál se vuelve un ser más responsable y maduro, pero sin perder el amor por la libertad que lo caracteriza, solo que ahora puede distinguir que la libertad no se trata simplemente de hacer lo que deseas o ir a donde quieras, sino de tomar responsabilidad por tus actos y decisiones. En este sentido Huck prioriza la naturaleza y la vida sencilla por encima de la civilización que conoce, que siempre estigmatiza y juzga. Por otra parte creo que el río Misisipi (Prácticamente el escenario principal) adquiere un sentido poético y simbólico, ya que considero que representa la libertad
Being narrated in the first person, this novel takes on a more personal feel, as if you were reading a diary of experiences and adventures. Although I don't usually like this style of narration, I think this novel wouldn't be the same without it. It suits the style perfectly and gives you, the reader, an extra connection with the protagonist, almost as if you were living the story instead of reading it.
Al estar narrada en primera persona esta novela adquiere un sentido más personal, como si estuvieses leyendo un diario de vivencias y aventuras, y aunque por lo general a mi no me gusta este estilo de narración, pienso que esta novela no sería lo mismo sin ella, le va perfecto para el estilo que tiene, te otorga como lector, una conexión extra con el protagonista, casi como si vivieras la historia en lugar de leerla.
The ending is extremely satisfying and shows us that all is not lost in life, that justice does exist, and that even though we sometimes feel that it will never come or that it will come too late, it actually arrives at just the right moment. So if you're looking for a light novel that will take you out of your routine and make you think at the same time, this is definitely a good choice. El final es sumamente satisfactorio y nos demuestra que en la vida no todo está perdido, que la justicia sí existe y que aunque a veces sentimos que jamás llegará o que lo hará demasiado tarde, en realidad llega en el momento justo. Así que si estás en busca de una novela ligera que te haga salir de la rutina y te ponga a reflexionar al mismo tiempo, seguramente esta es una buena opción.
