Porco Rosso [Anime review] ESP/ENG

As you know, I continue my exploration of the Ghibli filmography, so this time I want to talk about Porco Rosso, a film that like many others is not made directly for children, but for a more discerning audience, so join me in this post to analyze this 1992 film.
Como ya saben, continuo en mi exploración por la filmografía Ghibli, así que en esta ocasión quiero hablarles de Porco Rosso, una película que tal como muchas otras no está hecha directamente para niños, sino para un publico con un mayor criterio, así que acompáñenme en este post para que analicemos este film de 1992.
Overview/Resumen
The film is set more or less in the 1920s after the first world war. Porco Rosso is an expert pilot who after the war earns his living as a mercenary, but he is not an ordinary pilot, he has the appearance of a humanoid pig, and although it is not very clear the reason for this, it is suspected that it was because of a curse. He is constantly pursued by both fascists and air pirates of the Adriatic, but on one occasion he must stay away from the action because his plane requires repairs, and so he meets Miss Fio Piccolo, a young girl of only 17 years old who nevertheless has a lot of experience in the manufacture and repair of aircraft. She is an adventure lover, so after repairing the aircraft, she convinces Porco Rosso to accompany him in his next adventures, finally he will have to face an American adventurer hired by the pirates, who intends to eliminate him.
La película está ambientada más o menos en los años 20 luego de la primera guerra mundial. Porco Rosso es un experto piloto que posterior a la guerra se gana la vida como mercenario, pero él no es un piloto común y corriente, tiene la apariencia de un cerdo humanoide, y aunque no queda muy claro la razón de esto, se sospecha que fue por causa de una maldición. Él es constantemente perseguido tanto por fascistas como por piratas aéreos del Adriático, pero en una ocasión debe mantenerse alejado de la acción debido a que su avión requiere reparaciones, de esta manera conoce a la señorita Fio Piccolo, una jovencita de solo 17 años que sin embargo tiene mucha experiencia en la fabricación y reparación de aviones. Ella es amante de las aventuras, así que luego de reparar la aeronave, ella convence a Porco Rosso de acompañarlo en sus siguientes aventuras, finalmente él tendrá que enfrentarse a un aventurero estadounidense contratado por los piratas, el cual tiene la intención de eliminarlo.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
I am an inveterate lover of history, and I have spent a lot of time studying the years of the first and second world war, so I agree with the hypothesis that the appearance of Marco Pagot (which is the real name of our protagonist) is just a metaphor that recalls the way in which the Italian fascists or ultra-right and conservative people of the time referred to the communists, In fact there is a scene where Porco Rosso is in the cinema and says “better pig than fascist” On the other hand I also think that this change of appearance (which arose during the first war) could refer to a reflection of a drastic change of personality after the death of his friend, because when a human being loses someone who is so important to him or her in certain circumstances, he or she automatically ceases to be himself or herself.
Yo soy una amante empedernida de la historia, y me he pasado mucho tiempo estudiando los años de la primera y segunda guerra mundial, así que estoy de acuerdo con la hipótesis que existe acerca de que la apariencia de Marco Pagot (el cual es el verdadero nombre de nuestro protagonista) es solo una metáfora que recuerda la forma en la que los fascistas italianos o las personas ultraderechistas y conservadores de la época se referían a los comunistas, de hecho hay una escena donde Porco Rosso está en el cine y dice "mejor cerdo que fascista" Por otra parte también creo que este cambio de apariencia (el cuál surgió durante la primera guerra) podría referirse a un reflejo de un cambio drástico de personalidad tras la muerte de su amigo, porque cuando un ser humano pierde a alguien que es tan importante para él o ella en determinadas circunstancias, automáticamente deja de ser él o ella misma.
And certainly if we analyze it in depth we will realize that when you oppose an authoritarian system, you must necessarily give up your identity, stop being who you were, give up your name, your environment and even what you love to defend an ideal. Fio Piccolo knows this and for that reason he admires Porco Rosso so much to the point of falling platonically in love with him, because she sees beyond his physical appearance, she sees his ideals and his bravery because she is also a rebellious soul who detests conventionalisms. Although he believes he lost his humanity (empathy, solidarity and good deeds in general) she sees in him a good person, she sees his feelings.
Y es que ciertamente si lo analizamos a profundidad nos daremos cuenta que cuando te opones a un sistema autoritario, obligatoriamente debes renunciar a tu identidad, dejar de ser quien eras, renunciar a tu nombre, tu entorno e incluso lo que amas por defender un ideal. Fio Piccolo lo sabe y por esa razón admira tanto a Porco Rosso hasta el punto de enamorarse platónicamente de él, porque ella ve más allá de su apariencia física, ve sus ideales y su valentía porque ella también es una alma rebelde que detesta los convencionalismos. Aunque él cree que perdió su humanidad (la empatía, solidaridad y las buenas acciones en general) ella ve en él a una buena persona, ve sus sentimientos.
On the other hand, I love that this film highlights the work of women during the wars. Unlike what many people think, they not only had to dedicate themselves to the tasks they were associated with (housework), but they also had to take on the roles of their husbands, sons, and brothers who were fighting in the war. So, they went to the factories to work hard, often in hangars making airplane parts. Some of these women, like Fío, stood out in the aeronautical field, and were often underestimated because of their youth or simply because they were women. But they showed with their actions what they were capable of.
Por otra parte me encanta que en esta película hayan resaltado el trabajo de las mujeres durante las guerras, ellas, a diferencia de lo que muchos piensan, no solo tuvieron que dedicarse a las labores a las que se les asociaba (labores domésticas) sino que tuvieron que asumir el rol de sus esposos, hijos y hermanos que estaban luchando en la guerra, así que se dirigieron a las fábricas para trabajar arduamente, muchas veces sí, en los hangares fabricando partes de aviones. Algunas de estas mujeres llegaron a destacar en el rubro aeronáutico, tal como Fío, y muchas veces fueron subestimadas por su juventud o simplemente por el hecho de ser una mujer, pero ellas demostraron con hechos lo que eran capaces de hacer.
Overall I really liked this movie, it has a dynamic pace, an interesting story and even some touches of humor, so I consider it highly recommended 😉.
En términos generales me gustó mucho esta película, tiene un ritmo dinámico, una historia interesantes e incluso algunas pinceladas de humor, así que la considero altamente recomendable 😉.

It was Ghibli's shortest movie, but that didn't stop it from leaving a deep message like all the other movies, I love how Ghibli manages to show that side that is not seen, in this case, the role of women in the war, very nice movie! 😍
