Hello, the Narnian adventure continues and this time I'll talk about the second in the saga The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. It's one of the best-known books because it was from here that the films began. However, if you haven't read the previous one, "The Nephew and the Magician," you won't be able to know the origin of the White Witch or the unfathomable magic, much less Narnia. Furthermore, that book explains many things that are found in this one that I'm going to review for you this time. Below I'll leave my previous review in case you want to take a look.
Hola, la aventura Narniana continúa y en esta ocasión les hablaré del segundo de la saga El león, la bruja y el armario, es uno de los libros más conocidos porque fue a partir de aquí que iniciaron las películas, pero si no has leído el anterior "El sobrino y el mago" no podrás conocer el origen ni de la bruja blanca, ni de la magia insondable, y mucho menos de Narnia, además ese libro explica muchas cosas que se encuentran en este que voy a reseñar para ustedes en esta ocasión. A continuación les dejaré mi review anterior en caso de que quieran echarle un vistazo.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe tells the story of the four Pevensie siblings, who went to take refuge in the countryside, specifically to Professor Diggory's house to take refuge from the war. At first the experience seems quite boring because in the house there is nothing to do or anyone to play with, so on one occasion they started playing hide-and-seek to try to combat boredom and it was in this way that Lucy, (the youngest of the siblings) discovered something extraordinary, a huge wardrobe to hide in, but soon she would realize that it was not an ordinary wardrobe, but a portal that transported her to another dimension, a vast and cold but beautiful land called Narnia, later her three siblings also took part in the experience that led them to meet extraordinary characters, an evil witch who has kept Narnia in misery for centuries, but also a sublime and noble being who seems to be hope.
El león, la bruja y el armario nos narra la historia de los cuatro hermanos Pevensie, los cuales fueron a refugiarse al campo, específicamente a la casa del profesor Diggory para refugiarse de la guerra. Al inicio la experiencia parece bastante aburrida porque en la casa no hay nada que hacer ni con quien jugar, así que en una ocasión se pusieron a jugar el escondite para tratar de combatir el tedio y fue de esta manera como Lucy, (la menor de los hermanos) descubrió algo extraordinario, un armario enorme para poder esconderse, pero pronto se daría cuenta que no era un armario común y corriente, sino un portal que la trasladó hacia otra dimensión, una tierra vasta y fría pero hermosa llamada Narnia, posteriormente sus tres hermanos también formaron parte de la experiencia que los llevó a conocer a personajes extraordinarios, a una bruja malvada que ha mantenido por siglos a Narnia en la miseria, pero también a un ser sublime y noble que parece ser la esperanza.
This is one of the most beautiful books because it is one of the ones with the most Christian references, those who know Tolkien and Lewis will know that they are believing authors and that their works are full of biblical references. So here we can see the White Witch as Satan (who in the previous book even tried to steal the forbidden fruit) she and her court represent evil, avarice and greed, the Pevensie children, who are called "sons of Adam" and "Daughters of Eve" represent hope, however one of them, Edmund could represent Judas (the traitor) is the human weakness that allows itself to be tempted, and finally my favorite character, Aslan, the lion is none other than a representation of Jesus, who sacrificed himself for his people, shed his blood on the stone table (to save Edmund and all of Narnia) he is stripped of his mane to humiliate him and finally he is sacrificed, but he is resurrected for his act of redemption. It is one of the most beautiful and moving scenes of the entire saga, especially when the mice gnaw the ropes that tied him and for this reason he turns them into talking animals (which in Narnia are endowed with intelligence).
Este es uno de los libros más hermosos porque es uno de los que más referencias cristianas tiene, los que conocen a Tolkien y a Lewis sabrán que son autores creyentes y que sus obras están llenas de referencias bíblicas. Así que aquí podemos ver a la Bruja Blanca como satanás (quien en el libro anterior intentó incluso robar el fruto prohibido) ella y su corte representan el mal, la avaricia y codicia, los niños Pevensie, quienes son llamados "hijos de Adán" e "Hijas de Eva" representan la esperanza, sin embargo uno de ellos, Edmund pudiera representar a Judas (el traidor) es la debilidad humana que se deja tentar, y por último mi personaje favorito, Aslan, el león no es sino una representación de Jesús, el cual se sacrificó por su pueblo, derramó su sangre en la mesa de piedra (para salvar a Edmund y a Narnia entera) a él lo despojan de su melena para humillarlo y finalmente lo sacrifican, pero él resucita por su acto de redención. Es una de las escenas más hermosas y conmovedoras de toda la saga, sobre todo cuando los ratones roen las cuerdas que lo ataban y por esta razón él los vuelve animales parlantes (los cuales en Narnia están dotados de inteligencia)
Lewis had a particular way of telling the story; it was as if, rather than writing it, he were telling it to you himself. His style is dynamic and fluid, as it's a story primarily aimed at children. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy it as a teenager or an adult. In fact, I would recommend reading these books at different stages of your life. It's not at all difficult to connect with the characters and maintain that connection. I love Aslan because he presents himself to the Pevensies and to us as what he is: a solemn, great, and sublime being, but at the same time loving. In fact, it was his love that led him to sacrifice himself. He's willing to forgive if he detects true repentance and can be implacable with the wicked, which is why he inspires so much fear in them.
Lewis tenía una manera particular de narrar la historia, era como si en lugar de haberla escrito, te la estuviese contando él mismo, su estilo es dinámico y fluido ya que es una historia dirigida principalmente para niños, eso no significa que no puedas disfrutarla siendo adolescente o adulto, de hecho yo recomendaría leer estos libros en diferentes etapas de la vida. No resulta para nada complejo conectar con los personajes y mantener esa conexión. Amo a Aslan porque se presenta ante los Pevensie y ante nosotros como lo que es, un ser solemne, grande y sublime, pero al mismo tiempo amoroso, de hecho fue su amor el que lo llevó a sacrificarse, él está dispuesto a perdonar si detecta verdadero arrepentimiento y puede ser implacable con los impíos, por eso les inspira tanto temor.
All of this only makes me feel more and more disappointed about what Netflix intends to do with the version of Narnia they are preparing, in which they want Meryl Streep to play Aslan 🤦♀, it's the same thing they intend to do with Severus Snape in the HBO series, but anyway I'm not here to let you know my frustration, but to talk to you about this book. Another of the wonderful things that I found is that here you begin to experience the wonders created by Aslan in the previous book, you discover that Narnia as such has a life of its own, the trees, the bushes, the rivers, everything has life and consciousness, and one thing is quite certain, if you stay on the right path and follow Aslan's advice, he will lead you to Cair Parabel (paradise) that is the place destined for the children of Adam and Eve, because the supreme being gave them power over other creatures.
Todo esto solo hace que sienta cada vez más decepción acerca de lo que pretende hacer Netflix con la versión de Narnia que están preparando, en la cual quieren que Meryl Streep interprete a Aslan 🤦♀, es lo mismo que pretenden hacer con Severus Snape en la serie de HBO, pero en fin no estoy aquí para hacerles saber mi frustración, sino para hablarles de este libro. Otra de las cosas maravillosas que encontré es que aquí comienzas a experimentar las maravillas creadas por Aslan en el libro anterior, descubres que Narnia como tal tiene vida propia, los árboles, los arbustos, los ríos, todo tiene vida y consciencia, y una cosa es bastante certera, si te mantienes en la senda correcta y sigues los consejos de Aslan, él te conducirá a Cair Parabel (el paraíso) ese es el lugar destinado para los hijos de Adán y de Eva, porque el ser supremo les dio potestad por encima de las demás criaturas.
I never tire of reading the Narnia books; each one has a special, magical touch. It's been a huge pleasure writing this review. I hope that if you haven't read them yet, you'll give them a chance, because in my opinion, Narnia is one of the best in fantasy literature. Thank you very much, and see you later.
