I've always loved the Brothers Grimm tales, ever since my mom and aunts told me their stories when I was little, and lately I've had a wonderful reunion with these stories after finding an old book I had in my library, but this also helped me unlock a distant memory. When I was a child, every Saturday and Sunday I would wake up with a smile on my lips because I knew that my favorite show was going to be on TV, so I would brush my teeth and turn on the TV to watch the programming from the dining room table while I had breakfast 🤗, it was Gurimu Meisaku Gekijou, an anime series that represented all the Brothers Grimm tales.
Toda la vida me han gustado los cuentos de los hermanos Grimm, desde que mi mamá y mis tías me contaban sus historias cuando yo era pequeña, y últimamente he tenido un reencuentro maravilloso con estas historias luego de encontrar un viejo libro que tenía en mi biblioteca, pero esto a su vez también me ayudó a desbloquear un recuerdo lejano. Cuando yo era niña todos los sábados y domingos yo despertaba con una sonrisa en los labios porque sabía que en la televisión iban a pasar mi programa favorito, así que me lavaba los dientes y encendía el televisor para ver la programación desde la mesa del comedor mientras desayunaba 🤗, se trataba de Gurimu Meisaku Gekijou, una serie de anime que representaba todos los cuentos de los hermanos Grimm.
Overview/Resumen
The series, as its name suggests, was a representation of all the Brothers Grimm stories, from the most conventional to the lesser-known. It was produced by the Japanese studio Nippon Animation, which was known for adapting Western story scripts into anime. The series consisted of two seasons and many episodes.
La serie, tal como su nombre lo indica se trataba de una representación de todas las historias de los hermanos Grimm, desde las más convencionales hasta las menos conocidas, estaba producida por el estudio japonés Nippon Animation , el cuál se caracterizaba por adaptar al anime guiones de historias occidentales. La serie constaba de dos temporadas y muchísimos episodios.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
Lately I started watching the episodes again and it was truly a wonderful experience that helped me reconnect with my childhood. Watching the series now from a more adult perspective allows me to appreciate details that I overlooked in my childhood. For example, I realize that the script was very respectful of the original stories. We all know that some of them can even be somber and touch on dark themes. However, the animation style helps to soften this issue, making the more gruesome stories more palatable for children (you know that children at the time the stories were written were perhaps less impressionable 😄). This animation style and character designs were very characteristic of Nippon Animation, evoking the traditional European aesthetic of fairy tales; in fact, they look like book illustrations.
Últimamente comencé a ver los episodios otra vez y de verdad que fue una gratísima experiencia que me ayudó a reencontrarme con mi niñez. Ver la serie ahora desde un enfoque más adulto me permite apreciar detalles que en mi niñez pasaban por alto, por ejemplo me doy cuenta que el guion respetaba mucho las historias originales, y ya sabemos que algunas de ellas llegan a ser incluso sombrías y a tocar temas oscuros, sin embargo el estilo de animación ayuda a suavizar mucho este asunto, haciendo que las historias más escabrosas sean más digeribles para los niños (ya saben ustedes que los niños de la época en que fueron escritos los cuentos tal vez eran menos impresionables 😄) Este estilo de animación y diseños de personajes eran muy característicos de Nippon Animation los cuales evocaban la estética tradicional europea de los cuentos de hadas, de hecho parecen ilustraciones de libros.
I also realized that while the stories are very respectful of the original canon in general terms, they do lack depth and avoid exploring very complex themes like those that appear in the original stories, but this is perfectly understandable, since television networks were very careful with the content that was broadcast for children of my generation, and much more so for the generations that followed, so instead this anime introduces some very interesting variations and nuances but without ceasing to explore situations or themes that the original stories contain such as death, illnesses and the consequences that come with the decisions made.
También me di cuenta que si bien las historias respetan mucho el canon original en términos generales, sí carecen de profundidad y evitan explorar temas muy complejos como los que aparecen en las historias originales, pero esto es perfectamente entendible, ya que las televisoras cuidaban mucho el contenido que se emitía para los niños de mi generación, y mucho más de las generaciones que siguieron después, así que en su lugar este anime introduce algunas variaciones y matices muy interesantes pero sin dejar de explorar situaciones o temas que contienen los cuentos originales como la muerte, las enfermedades y las consecuencias que vienen con las decisiones tomadas.
For me it has been a precious reunion with my childhood, but beyond that I think it is a valuable resource to instill important teachings in children of all generations regardless of their culture, the rhythm of the stories is dynamic and fresh despite being several years old, so even today it continues to be attractive, and for that reason I highly recommend it, either for you to know it or to reconnect with it in case you have already seen this anime like me. Para mi ha sido un precioso reencuentro con mi niñez, pero además de eso pienso que es un recurso valioso para inculcar enseñanzas importantes en los niños de todas las generaciones sin importar su cultura, el ritmo de las historias es dinámico y fresco a pesar de tener varios años ya, así que aún hoy en día continúa resultando atractivo, y por esa razón lo recomiendo mucho, bien sea para que lo conozcan o para reencontrarse con él en caso de que ya hayan visto este anime como yo.
