Anne of the Green Gables [Book review] ESP/ENG

I recently found a wonderful book to which I became totally addicted for several reasons, it is Anne of Green Gables or as I knew it in Spanish Ana de las Tejas Verdes by Lucy Maud Montgomery, it is a classic of children's literature, although I must confess that I did not know it until now, but without further ado let's start with a brief summary of the story so you have more context 😊.
Recientemente encontré un libro maravilloso al que me volví totalmente adicta por varias razones, se trata de Anne de Green Gables o como lo conocí en español Ana de las Tejas Verdes por Lucy Maud Montgomery, es un clásico de la literatura infantil, aunque debo confesar que yo no lo conocía hasta ahora, pero sin más preámbulo iniciemos con un breve resumen de la historia para que ustedes tengan más contexto 😊.
Overview/Resumen
Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert are a couple of unmarried brothers who live on a farm, seeing that both are getting older and will need help with all the work, they decide to adopt a child, however when Matthew went to the station to pick him up he realizes that by mistake they sent a girl, and not just anyone, it was a very loquacious one, Anyway, Marilla, angry with the mistake, decides to send her back to the orphanage, but when she realizes that the girl would be destined to a terrible and abusive woman who wants her to raise her children and do all the housework, she decides to retract her decision and prefers to keep her. Anne Shirley quickly wins the hearts not only of her adoptive parents but of all of Avonlea, she goes to school and makes many friends but also faces challenges of her age and the times in which she lives, being a girl with a very lively mind, a fertile imagination and a sensitive soul.
Matthew y Marilla Cuthbert son una pareja de hermanos solteros que vive en una granja, al ver que ambos ya se están haciendo mayores y que necesitarán ayuda con todo el trabajo, deciden adoptar a un niño, no obstante cuando Matthew fue a la estación a recogerlo se da cuenta que por equivocación mandaron a una niña, y no cualquiera, era una muy locuaz, una niña pelirroja con una gran personalidad, de todos modos Marilla, enojada con la equivocación decide devolverla al orfanato, pero cuando se da cuenta que la niña sería destinada a una mujer terrible y maltratadora que pretende que ella crie a sus hijos y haga todas las labores domesticas, entonces decide retractarse de su decisión y prefiere quedarse con ella. Anne Shirley rápidamente se gana el corazón no solo de sus padres adoptivos sino de todo Avonlea, va a la escuela y hace muchos amigos pero también se enfrenta a desafíos propios de la edad y de la época en que vive, siendo ella una chica con una mente muy vivaz, una imaginación fértil y un alma sensible.
My Opinion/Mi Opinión
Although it is classified as children's literature, I honestly consider this is one of those books that you can read as a child, teenager or adult because at any stage of your life you will find something to identify with. Particularly it happened to me that the reading trapped me inexorably through its protagonist because I came to identify with her in such a way that I could not avoid the memories of my childhood, they all came to my mind. Like Ann I was a child with a very solid imagination and I was constantly getting lost in a labyrinth of ideas and characters created for the purpose of giving more adventure to life 😄 at school I somehow led a group of girls and we would climb trees while tasting breakfast and discussing our ideas about a specific topic, so that was our Club, as Anne founded her reading and writing club. Now in my adulthood I identify more with Marilla Cuthbert (Anne's adoptive mother) as my life has become much simpler and I pursue other interests, but that is precisely the crux of the matter, as you read the book you will feel a strong connection to it.
A pesar de que está catalogado como literatura infantil, yo considero honestamente que este es uno de esos libros que puedes leer siendo niño, adolescente o adulto porque en cualquier etapa de tu vida encontrarás algo con qué identificarte. Particularmente me sucedió que la lectura me atrapó inexorablemente a través de su protagonista porque llegué a identificarme con ella de tal manera que no podía evitar los recuerdos de mi niñez, todos me llegaban a la mente. Al igual que Ann yo fui una niña con una imaginación muy sólida y constantemente me perdía en un laberinto de ideas y personajes creados con el propósito de darle más aventura a la vida 😄 en el colegio yo lideraba de cierta forma un grupo de niñas y nos subíamos a los árboles mientras degustábamos el desayuno y discutíamos nuestras ideas sobre un tema en específico, así que ese era nuestro Club, como Anne fundó su club de lectura y escritura. Ahora en mi adultez me identifico más con Marilla Cuthbert (la madre adoptiva de Anne) ya que mi vida se simplificó bastante y persigo otros intereses, pero ese es precisamente el meollo del asunto, al leer el libro sientes una fuerte conexión con él.
What I like the most is that the novel was written in the same era in which it is set, that is to say that this way we can have as readers a broader and totally real panorama of the conflicts and challenges that the characters had to face. On the other hand, the author's narrative style is very dynamic, it makes you feel part of the work, it involves you in an amazing way with the feelings of all the characters, it is also so realistic that in this story you will not find villains, both the protagonist and the other characters face various situations that arise as part of life itself.
Lo que más me gusta es que la novela fue escrita en la misma época en la que está ambientada, es decir que así podemos tener como lectores un panorama más amplio y totalmente real de los conflictos y desafíos a los que debían enfrentarse los personajes. Por otra parte el estilo de narración de la autora es muy dinámico, te hace sentir parte de la obra, te involucra de forma asombrosa con los sentimientos de todos los personajes, además es tan realista que en esta historia no encontrarás villanos, tanto la protagonista como los demás personajes se enfrentan a diversas situaciones que van surgiendo como parte de la vida misma.
One of my favorite characters is the teacher Muriel Stacy, who is the complete opposite of the old teacher in every way, she seeks progress and the future for the young people of Avolea, she encourages them to grow, to explore, in fact, many times she teaches her class outside the school, She is kind and not only cares about the academic well being of her students but also about their feelings, she recognizes the individuality of each one of them, so she does not see them as a whole, but she values each one for what they are. She is a woman ahead of her time: she rides a motorcycle, wears pants from time to time, so someone so different would cause a stir, but at the end of the day she showed what she is made of, therefore she is along with Anne my favorite character.
Uno de mis personajes favoritos es la maestra Muriel Stacy, la cual es totalmente opuesta al antiguo maestro en todos los sentidos, ella busca el progreso y el futuro para los jóvenes de Avolea, los alienta a crecer, a explorar, de hecho, muchas veces ella da su clase fuera de la escuela, se va con los alumnos al bosque para que puedan comprobar por ellos mismos los conocimientos que van recibiendo, ella es amable y no solo se preocupa por el bienestar académico de sus alumnos sino por sus sentimientos, ella reconoce la individualidad de cada uno de ellos, así que no los ve como un todo, sino que los valora a cada quien por lo que son. Es una mujer adelantada a su época: anda en motocicleta, usa pantalones de vez en cuando, así que alguien tan diferente ocasionaría revuelo, pero al fin y al cabo ella demostró de qué está hecha, por lo tanto ella es junto con Anne mi personaje favorito.
I like how Anne reacts to the changes in her life, sometimes with emotion, sometimes with fear, but all these changes and challenges make her wiser and wiser, and you can see it in her change of attitude and her way of reacting, but in spite of everything she never lost her essence, what makes her a wonderful girl, that is, her spontaneous personality and her great sense of empathy.
Me gusta como Anne va reaccionando a los cambios de su vida, algunas veces con emoción, en otras con miedo, pero todos estos cambios y retos hacen que cada vez se vuelva más sabia, y tú lo notas en su cambio de actitud y su forma de reaccionar, pero a pesar de todo jamás perdió su esencia, lo que la hace una chica maravillosa, es decir, su personalidad espontanea y su gran sentido de la empatía.
One of the things I liked most about this protagonist is that she is very cultured, she uses bombastic words and boasts an extensive vocabulary but she does not do it to show off, it is simply the result of long days of reading, since in her early life, books were the only escape valve she had for the loneliness and mistreatment she was subjected to while living in the orphanage and later when she lived with her first families. She let herself be stimulated by the knowledge and stories she encountered in each book, and this in turn was a great exercise for her imagination.
Una de las cosas que más me gustó de esta protagonista es que es muy culta, usa palabras rimbombantes y hace gala de un extenso vocabulario pero no lo hace por alardear, es simplemente el resultado de largas jornadas de lectura, ya que en su vida más temprana, los libros fueron la única válvula de escape que ella tenía para la soledad y los maltratos a los que fue sometida mientras vivió en el orfanato y posteriormente cuando vivió con las primeras familias. Ella se dejó estimular por el conocimiento y las historias que iba encontrando en cada libro, y esto a su vez fue un gran ejercicio para su imaginación.
And I definitely loved how the author approached the subject of the arrival of the new century, the progress and evolution of ideas, how she addressed in a credible and accurate way the subject of female empowerment in a time when frankly women had a lot more reasons to complain, compared to today.
Y definitivamente me encantó como la autora abordó el tema de la llegada del nuevo siglo, el progreso y la evolución de ideas, como abordó de forma creíble y certera el tema del empoderamiento femenino en una época en que francamente las mujeres tenían muchísimas mas razones de las que quejarse, en comparación con hoy en día.
Anyway, this is a story worthy of being read at all stages of life and at any time, it is one of those books that really feed your spirit, not only entertains you in a moment of boredom, but it takes you from wherever you are to a distant land, to a different time and you become part of that same story, that is the magic that causes a good book.
En fin, esta es una historia digna de ser leída en todas las etapas de la vida y en cualquier momento, es de esos libros que realmente alimentan tu espíritu, no solo te entretiene en un momento de aburrimiento, sino que te traslada desde donde estés a una tierra lejana, a una época diferente y te vuelves parte de esa misma historia, esa es la magia que provoca un buen libro.

Leí la saga completa hace un tiempito y es increíble lo avanzada que estaba para su tiempo. La autora de verdad puso todo de sí para lograr esta maravilla, una gran obra que se merece ser leída por todos al menos una vez en la vida.
