Three Tunes Tuesday-Week 196: Teddy Swims: The raw voice of love/ Teddy Swims: la voz cruda del amor [ENG-ESP ]

Hello, community !!!This is an ideal day to share some music and reflect on it (actually the best time to talk about music is always).For this week 196 of the #ttt initiative that promotes the friend @ableze, I bring three fabulous themes that, under the deep and rough voice of Teddy Swims have moved my musical compass to follow him closely.I am not an expert in music, but I think I do not need to be to appreciate in fair way the huge projection of this singer and composer, and for this I appropriate elements that my experience as a teacher of art theory help me to value better and especially my Melómana condition.

I confess that I did not know Teddy Swims until recently, also his musical career took off in 2023. In my musical investigations I met a video of his and fell in love with his raw voice, the implicit passion in his performance, his reinterpretation and work with work with work with The Rhythm & Blues that puts dialogue with pop, rock, country and soul mainly. Everything in this musician points to coherence, I mean his image and artistic production.Teddy summons with his voice to the deepest passions and makes them live on each subject, making them a bridge to transmit diverse emotions on everyday and universal issues but that with the plus of his own philosophy in significantly poetic letters and their interpretive quality.

Entering this post interest, I have selected three themes that have already become classics of this singer -songwriter.Under the thematic criteria of the duality of love after the loss-resentment cycle, these three themes call not only different edges to talk about it, but also assumes a specific and suggestive musical treatment in harmony of the whole, generating pieces of great artistic value.In this I base my selection.

First tune: Lose control or claustrophobia of love.

This was his first great success and the first theme that I heard (the one who conquered me)."Lose Control" is his revelation as an artist.With influences of rock ballad and the R&B domain invites us to participate in an internal struggle history, emotional dependence, vulnerability to a love that hurts and health pletely promotes the lyrics.The rhythm is not obviously behind, notes that suggest the sensuality of the pleasant in complicity with the torn, deep, solid voice of Teddy imposes a tone of suffering.

Second Tune:
The Door, the emotional trip

Here is a song that returns to love.It might seem in a first listening that is a common theme that talks about damage after a dysfunctional relationship and the rupture that brings diverse feelings, but let's not fool ourselves, this is a song that means the miracle of reunitting with oneself and, according to the magnificationFrom the metaphor that includes the door in the symbolic aspect, proposes the end of the destructive cycle of a real love but that needs to die.It is a song that assumes the complexity of love and that need for redemption of the subject that decides to leave the damage behind and continue.The style?It cannot be other than the soul with a certain pop ingredient that fits with the own duality of the theme addressed: the deep and the simple, the difficult and the necessary.This issue is an emotional bomb that Teddy Swims explotes with his interpretation.

Third Tune: Guilty, a declaration of love

Although under the same halo of emotional load, "Guilty" is about the passion that clounts the senses and moves us to the most unsuspected limits.The subject assumes his love story as a crime he feels reponable and declares in acceptance of the consequences of those intense emotions.Group travels through pain and deep connection and with the projection of the ballad as a genre, invites us to reflection in an emotional roller coaster, very typical resources of swims production.Beyond subtleties, "Guilty" offers us an intense panorama that attests to the direct manifestation of real love and its dangerous implications: the feeling is not totally pink, it has gray and darkness too.

After these brushstrokes I invite you to listen carefully to delight with the quality of these three pieces.To lovers of intense interpretations and voices with personality it catches us without a doubt.Do not say more, that it is Teddy who will converse them. Hola, comunidad!!!. Es este un día idóneo para compartir un poco de música y reflexionar sobre ello (en realidad el mejor momento para hablar de música es siempre). Para esta semana 196 de la iniciativa #ttt que promueve el amigo @ablaze, traigo tres temas fabulosos que, bajo la voz profunda y ruda de Teddy Swims han movido mi brújula musical para seguirle de cerca. No soy experta en música, pero creo que no necesito serlo para apreciar en justa manera la descomunal proyección de este cantante y compositor, y para ello me apropio de elementos que mi experiencia como profesora de Teoría del Arte me ayudan a valorar mejor y sobre todo mi condición de melómana.

Confieso que no conocía a Teddy Swims sino hasta hace poco, también su carrera musical despegó en 2023. En mis pesquisas musicales me encontré con un video suyo y me enamoré de su voz cruda, la pasión implícita en su performance, su reinterpretación y trabajo con el rhythm & blues que pone a dialogar con el pop, el rock, country y el soul principalmente. Todo en este músico apunta a la coherencia, me refiero a su imagen y producción artísica. Teddy convoca con su voz a las más profundas pasiones y las hace vivir en cada tema, convirtiéndolos en un puente para transmitir emociones diversas sobre temas cotidianos y universales pero que con el plus de su propia filosofía en letras significativamente poéticas y su calidad interpretativa.

Entrando en materia de interés de este post, he seleccionado tres temas que ya se han convertido en clásicos de este cantautor. Bajo el criterio temático de la dualidad del amor tras el ciclo pérdida-redención, estos tres temas convocan no solo diferentes aristas para hablar de ello, sino que asume un tratamiento musical específico y sugerente en armonía del conjunto, generando piezas de gran valor artístico. En esto baso mi selección.

Primer Tune: Lose Control o la claustrofobia del amor.

Este fue su primer gran éxito y el primer tema suyo que escuché (el que me conquistó). “Lose control” es su revelación como artista. Con influencias de la balada rock y el dominio del R&B nos invita a participar de una historia de lucha interna, dependencia emocional, vulnerabilidad ante un amor que hiere y sana, asfixia y genera una sensación de ausencia que traduce en ese estado de desasosiego que a todas luces promueve la letra. El ritmo no se queda atrás obviamente, notas que sugieren la sensualidad de lo placentero en complicidad con la voz rasgada, profunda, sólida de Teddy que impone un tono de sufrimento.

Segundo Tune:
“ The Door”, el viaje emocional

He aquí una canción que vuelve sobre el amor. Pudiera parecer en una primera escucha que es un tema común que habla del daño tras una relación disfuncional y la ruptura que acarrea sentimientos diversos, pero no nos engañemos, es esta una canción que significa el milagro de reencontrarse con uno mismo y, según la magnificación de la metáfora que comprende la puerta en el aspecto simbólico, propone fin del ciclo destructivo de un amor real pero que necesita morir. Es una canción que asume la complejidad del amor y esa necesidad de redención del sujeto que decide dejar atrás el daño y continuar. ¿El estilo? No puede ser otro que el soul con cierto ingrediente pop que calza con la propia dualidad de la temática abordada: lo profundo y lo simple, lo difícil y lo necesario. Este tema es una bomba emotiva que la interpretación de Teddy Swims detona.

Tercer Tune: Guilty, una declaración de amor

Aunque bajo el mismo halo de carga emocional, “Guilty” trata de la pasión que nubla los sentidos y nos mueve hasta los límites más insospechados. El sujeto asume su historia de amor como un crimen del que se siente reponsable y declara en aceptación de las consecuencias de esas emociones intensas. La culpa transita por el dolor y la conexión profunda y con la proyección de la balada como género, nos invita a la reflexión en una montaña rusa emocional, recursos muy propio de la producción de Swims. Más allá de sutilezas, “Guilty” nos ofrece un panorama intenso que atestigua la manifestación directa del amor real y sus peligrosas implicaciones: no es totalmente rosa el sentimiento, tiene grises y oscuridad también.

Luego de estas pinceladas les invito a escuchar con detenimiento para que se deleiten con la calidad de estas tres piezas. A los amantes de interpretaciones intensas y voces con personalidad nos atrapa sin dudas. No se diga más, que sea Teddy quien les converse. Solo dejo las sugerencias, usted decide.
