Hello beautiful community of photographic image lovers.

As an illustrator I understand the weight and value of an image in the visual translation of a text. There is a sort of confabulation between both languages from which new codes can be generated to convey a message to the viewer.

The richness of the visual arts has been widely exploited in this regard, however it is unusual to find, within the production dedicated to children, photographic experiences that illustrate texts with these contents.

Today I dare to use a series of photographs I took of my children while they were interacting with some structures of an old aqueduct that served a century ago to supply the sugar factory of my town with the precious liquid.

IMG_20250502_122016_721.jpg

These black and white captures are proposed as images to give visual support and provide greater meaning to this poem that is part of a project that I have wanted to materialize some time ago and today, finally, I can say that I started to develop. It is a booklet of texts dedicated to children under the name of The Petuques' diary that will recreate the daily adventures of my children and nephews in their interaction with the surrounding world as they discover life, of course aided by the fantastic element so typical of this type of literature.

I hope you will appreciate the images in their quality and then leave me your impressions regarding this attempt to make them dialogue as a pretext for this first poem of The Petuques' diary

I know this is not a community dedicated to literature but without the poem I could not sufficiently explain the motivations behind the photographs. Allow me, then, to enlighten you.

A Little Romance of Mumma, Fengur and the Steel Dragon

IMG_20250502_122047_769.jpg

Let us go beyond the suns!
We go on the back of magic!
They climb the steel body
Among the leaping clouds.
Behold, there the silver seekers
the silver seekers,
in the leaden estuaries
bends and bounds they win!

IMG_20250502_122103_477.jpg

Riders in adventure
on ancient machinery,
they will punish with the fire
of their beast and with sword
the rogue thieves
who seize his wings.

My little vigilantes
on an old dragon ride,
white and black fantasy,
they hunt down their foe.

IMG_20250502_122056_645.jpg

Mom, did you see us in combat?
Did you see how she punished
with its furious jaws
and his shadow made of flames?
said the brave little man
with tenderness in his words.

While the little girl in a gesture
that hid hope
whispered to me:
There are no dragons,
it's just a water patfh.

Thank you for your patience and for reading, for enjoying the images and the whole body of this post.

Until other pictures

Hi @maiasun84, I attach a lot of importance to the image as a companion to the text, and you are quite right when you mention the synergy that can be created between image and text, with back and forth paths, parallel readings along with other more holistic ones.

On this occasion, the feedback is evident, a poem that I liked very much acquires new nuances with these photographs and the same can be said if I change the order of poem - image for the inverse. And these two elements, when they are both taken at the same time, evoke different sensations than when they are taken separately.

Thank you very much.

Exactly, that's why I said that it needs to be understood as a whole, apart from the different readings of text and photography that are made separately. I appreciate that you have stopped to evaluate everything. Thank you very much. Have a nice day

For some reason these shots seem to be old, from a few decades ago... These have a nice charm.

I also seem very interesting the combination you have shared between photography and literature :)

I'm very glad that this is how you receive it. It is intentional that search for the past, the evocation of that fantasy that is so necessary in these times for our children. With the black and white I wanted to provoke that kind of sensations. Thank you for this comment that makes me happy.

That was the idea. To provoke that difference from the past, from the old game. I am delighted that the reception was as expected. Thanks for your luminous comment. Regards
