A Fish for a Blue Boy - Single-Jointed Cardboard Puppet/Un pez para un niño azul - marioneta de cartulina con articulación simple [ENG-ESP]

Hello, wonderful and creative hivers!!! I hope this is a wonderful Sunday for everyone.

Today, I invite you to join me through the step-by-step process of making this articulated paper puppet. It's very simple to make and requires very few resources.

First, I'd like to show you the tutorial using photographs and then tell you about my motivation for creating this title and choosing this technique.

Materials

Colored cardstock

Colored tissue paper

Scissors

Stapler and staples

Glue stick

Colored pencils

The Process

•Take a sheet of cardstock and fold and cut the excess cardstock as shown in the pictures.

•By folding it in half diagonally, align one end of the square with the other.

•Fold the corners, bringing the points to the line that bisects the angle transversely.

Return the piece to the diagonal fold and make cuts approximately 0.5 cm wide with scissors. The wire must reach the line marked on the fold of the cardboard. This is vital for proper puppet movement.

Then, build the fish's body by overlapping the pieces as shown in the image. Tape them to give the structure greater security.

Take scraps of colored cardboard, mark them, and cut out circles. These will be the eyes of our fish.

•Cut out and glue (staple) a semicircle of cardboard that will be the fish's lower jaw.

•Mark what will be the mouth with red cardboard.

All the cut pieces are glued together.

The base pieces for the side fins are marked and cut out.

Take the tissue paper and cut out several layers so that, when layered together, they create the impression of movement, given the characteristics of this material. The layers are glued to the cardboard base and then the entire piece is stapled to the fish's body.

The excess tissue paper is cut off to avoid waste and create the fish's tail. This is glued, layer by layer, to the end of the fish.

Finally, a 4 cm wide piece is stapled to the bottom of the fish's head. This will serve as a control to manipulate the puppet, and... That's it!

My little apprentice and helper holds our fish, which then takes to the waters of imagination through the movement of its body, articulated by the cuts in its structure.

The Motivation

A few months ago, I was involved in a project with my poet friend Lisy García, better known as @lizandra in the Hive universe. Together we had the dream of creating a show in which her poems would be performed with my puppets. Of course, this would be a performance primarily for children. The selected texts are from her children's poetry collection "Dylan Meets the Sea," a beautiful volume dedicated to her son, a child with special needs considered to be on the autism spectrum.

These two poems accompany the fish on stage:

Dylan discovers the sea
with Gabriela.
The foam traces the echo
weaving his footprints.
On the rock rests
the mermaid's adventure.
There are fish and shells:
the sea is a watercolor!

Toys among toys,
waves that follow my steps.
Inside the room, the fish
are the sound of salt.

Since I read the book, my imagination flew to Dylan, and I thought of puppets that weren't so complex in their performance but still attractive enough to capture his interest. The project hasn't been realized yet. But my desire to work with Lisy and for Dylan and the other children at his school is latent. I hope we can fulfill this dream very soon.

In the meantime, I wanted to show you part of this creation process and find it engaging enough that you'd be encouraged to try it yourself and even be able to accompany the puppet show with @lizandra's poems. It would be a privilege.

Hola, maravillosos y creativos hivers!!! Espero que este sea un domingo magnífico para todos.

Hoy les invito a que me acompañen durante el proceso de realización, paso a paso, de esta marioneta de papel articulada. Es bien sencilla su construcción y necesita muy pocos recursos para lograrla.

Primero quisiera mostrarles el tutorial a partir de fotografías y luego hablarles de la motivación que tuve para crear este títere y seleccionar esta técnica.

El proceso

•Tomamos un pliego de cartulina y doblamos y cortamos la cartulina sobrante según se muestra en las imágenes.

•Doblando por la mitad en diagonal , se hace coincidir un extremo del cuadrado con otro.

•Se doblan las esquinas llevando las puntas a la línea que divide el angulo de manera transversal.

Se devuelve la pieza al doblez en diagonal y se realizan cortes con la tijera de, aproximadamente, 0.5 cm de ancho. El corte debe de llegar a la línea marcada en el doblez de la cartulina. Ello es vital para que el movimiento de la marioneta sea el adecuado.

Luego se construye el cuerpo del pez superponiendo las piezas como se muestra en la imagen. Se engrapan para darle mayor seguridad a la estructura.

Se toman retazos de cartulina de color, se marcan y recortan círculos. Estos serán los ojos de nuestro pez.

•Se recorta y pega ( engrapa) un semicírculo de cartulina que será la mandíbula inferior del pez.

•Con cartulina roja se marca lo que será la boca.

Todas las piezas recortadas se pegan

Se marcan y recortan las piezas base de las aletas laterales.

Tomamos el papel de seda y recortamos varias capaz para que, superpuestas, produzcan la sensación de movimiento dadas la características de este material . Se pegan las capas a la base de cartón y luego se engrapa toda la pieza al cuerpo del pez.

El papel de seda sobrante, se recorta en pro de no desperdiciar nada y de lograr la cola del pez. Esta se pega, capa a capa, en el extremo del pez.

Finalmente se engrapa una pieza de 4 cm de ancho en la parte inferior de la cabeza del pez. Esta nos servirá de mando para manipular la marioneta y ...Ya está!!!

Mi pequeña aprendiz y ayudante sostiene a nuestro pez que luego llega a las aguas de la imaginación mediante el movimiento de su cuerpo articulado por los cortes en su estructura.

La motivación

Hace unos meses, estuve involucrada en un proyecto con la poeta amiga Lisy García , mejor conocida como @lizandra en el universo de Hive. Juntas tuvimos el sueño de materializar un espectáculo en el que poemas suyos fueran representados con mis marionetas. Por supuesto , este sería un performance para público infantil principalmente. Los textos seleccionados pertenecen a su libro de poesía para niños " Dylan conoce el mar", un hermoso volumen dedicado a su hijo, un niño con características especiales considerado dentro del espectro autista.

Estos dos poemas son los que acompañan al pez en escena:

Descubre Dylan el mar
de la mano de Gabriela.
La espuma dibuja el eco
que van tejiendo sus huellas.
Sobre la roca descansa
su aventura la sirena.
Hay peces y caracolas:
¡el mar es una acuarela!

Juguetes entre juguetes,
olas que en mi paso van.
Dentro del cuarto los peces
son el rumor de la sal.

Desde que leí el libro mi imaginación voló hacia Dylan y pensé en marionetas que no fueran tan complejas en su performance pero sí lo suficientemente atractivas como para que captarán su interés. El proyecto no ha podido concretarse aún . Pero mi deseo de trabajar con Lisy y para Dylan y los otros niños de su escuela está latente. Espero que muy pronto podamos cumplir este sueño.

Mientras eso sucede he querido mostrarles parte de este proceso de realización y que les resulte atractivo al punto de que se animen a intentarlo ustedes y hasta puedan acompañar el juego titiritero con los poemas de @lizandra. Sería un privilegio.
