A Webinar, A Coffee Kopi C , and a Spark of Curiosity

「 Learning Over A Cup 」

It’s been sometime since I joined any type of skill-building activities. Most of the time, I shy away from joining webinars.I realized that it's been sometimes since I feed my brain anything meaningful. You know, I used to like these things and last night, I got an invitation from my first mom to attend a webinar in project management fundamentals.

After the event, I took a break and talked to friends. I eventually learned new things about coffee that I will be sharing today. Apparently, in Singapore, they have something called Kopi C, a coffee that’s served with evaporated milk rather than condensed milk or regular milk. There are two variations of it. Kopi C or Kopi C kosong(this one doesn’t have added sugar in it).

In Indonesia, using evaporated milk as accompaniment to coffee is something rare, unless it’s a kopitiam, a singaporean styled cafe. So, this is the taste that I wasn’t really familiar with given evaporated milk is a lot more concentrated than other types of milk and unsweetened.

To make this coffee, I am using the evaporated milk from Sunbay. Typically, you need to use carnations but since my money was not enough to buy it, Sunbay was more affordable. I also checked the sugar content, Sunbay has 1g and Carnation has more sugar in it. I guess I made the right choice 😂

  • 50ml of evaporated milk
  • Coffee of your choice but preferably robusta.
  • Ice cubes for the iced version

It’s really not a rocket science to make this coffee because it’s literally mixing two ingredients. But what makes this coffee interesting is the flavor that comes through it.

Coffee from this region is known for its earthy tastes with rich aroma and medium level of sweetness. It also has lower acidity and the chocolate, brown sugar/sweet aftertaste is more prominent. It’s not exactly the crisp mouthfeel but a pleasant aftertaste.

So, this coffee variety goes well with the evaporated milk and actually is well-complementing the coffee. I also acquired a new taste and to me Kopi C kosong tasted like coffee with soymilk rather than a latte. Would I drink this everyday? Most likely but I still like condensed milk / spanish latte more than this Kopi C variation.

While having the coffee, I reviewed what I learned during the webinar. It’s honestly nothing new but there were questions that were raised from the attendees which were more intriguing. So basically, the fundamentals of a project manager can be applied in our lives and job. I did this approach when I was organizing the hive event. So basically, we first decide the scope, assess the workflow, design the strategies, planning and executing, monitoring and eventually final reporting.

It’s pretty basic until they were talking about limitations with funds and challenges from people with different opinions or stakeholders that wanted more things. There were a few tips being explained that I think were very helpful because I also noticed such challenges back in the day.

You can see my note from the webinar and because it was conducted in English, I was more interested in it than if it were in Indonesian/bahasa indonesia. There goes my spark of creativity and also a thirst for knowledge again.

Coincidentally, because of some reason, I had to find my old paper and transcript from my school days. I wasn’t that bad at school 😂 but I have to admit for the last 3-4 years, I have been on hiatus from any academic life. There were opportunities presented to me but I hesitated because I can’t work and study at the same time. I tried that in the past and it’s not something I could do simultaneously. To me, studying is studying, working is working.

I am happy I did it though. This is my first webinar where I get to hear more perspective of things that will be useful for my future endeavors too.

Now that I’ve finished my coffee and it’s currently raining as I am writing this, I do want to get another cup of warm beverage to cozy up my day.

See you around!

My palate craves sweetness, so I prefer condensed milk to evaporated milk. However, it's a luxury I rarely allow myself because I watch my sugar intake. I love the photo of the Italian coffee maker seen from above, it's my favourite way to make coffee. Your ability to find such rich nuances in flavour is admirable! You could work as a taster, haha.
Your return to webinars reminds me how long it has been since I last attended one, but I do watch documentaries from time to time and mainly read essays. With the internet, you can learn whatever you want in your preferred format; the important thing is to continue acquiring knowledge. And then apply it, as you did with your experience.

I remember there's something called Spanish latte and it's basically coffee with condensed milk. I love it too especially when I am running out of milk.

Honestly, I wanted to participate in one of coffee tasting competition and if I will have the chance to, I definitely will 🤣

While these days we can learn from anywhere and everywhere, I enjoy these short session with a certificate of accomplishment. It always felt so great when you're able to complete a course with the certificate 😄. Maybe it's time for you to learn something new?

In Spain we name the coffee with condensed milk “café bombón”, literally candy coffee. 😋

I’m always learning but without a certificate. You do better than me, I have to follow your example.

😂 I watched those too & used to talk with barista a lot but these days coffee shops have become so boring. They are not even willing to have any conversation anymore.

The coffee looks sweet but I prefer condensed milk to bring out the taste. Thanks for sharing.

It's not that sweet and personally I'd mix it with condensed milk too.
