6000 Steps Daily Walk
「 Morning Walks Lately.... 」
While the weather was still pretty chilly, I took the opportunity to actually re-start my walking habit again. In my city, though there aren’t any bigger parks nearby, it’s pretty refreshing to walk around the shops and just along the main road in the city. And when you’re lucky enough, you can see a beautiful moon shine through illuminating the street.
Having been writing here for 8 years now, I can’t stress it enough how I am jealous of people who live nearby a bigger park, ecopark and closer to nature. But you know, you just have to appreciate what you can see around you, even in my case it’s always just shops and pavement.
In the past, my walk started pretty late, at around 5:30 when people were already moving about and the road was crowded. These days, I tend to set out very early, when it’s still dark out and not many people are around except those who work at the traditional market.
Around this month too, many flowers are blooming around the street which actually is adding more beauty to the area. I mean, I get excited when the city feels a lot more lively. It’s as if the flowers remind us that there’s little things to appreciate all around us.
The other day though, the moon and the stars were exceptionally beautiful. I hadn’t slept for about 18 hours at the time and I had a lot on my mind. That walk made me realize that it was the best decision I made after a while because typically when I couldn’t sleep, I would be glued to the screen which further stressed me out.
When my steps reached 6000, I went back home feeling proud and set out to reset my sleep again. Since last week I’ve been pretty ill, my sleep has been all over the place. I was in and out of sleep which actually reminded me how messed up my sleep has been for the last couple of months.
The only time I was sleeping well was when I was traveling around last month. That was the only time when I felt like I had a proper sleep in a while and woke up like a normal being would, in the morning. I’ve had a lot of issues with my sleep but not as bad as the last couple of years.
You know, sometimes I am so proud waking up at 3 AM and all that jazz. Other times, I was stuck with sleeping in the morning and waking up during the afternoon. That cycle repeated until I eventually learned the huge difference and why I was able to actually wake up at 3 AM and feel happy about it all. It’s really the workout, the morning walk I often did in the past. It’s also the reason why during travels I was able to sleep well, that was because I walk too. I walk a lot compared to when I am just home, cooped up in my introverted mode.
This morning, it was the same. I didn’t invite my mom to a walk with me because she tends to complicate everything. So, I just walk. Slowly. I don’t even rush it even though I tend to get scared as it is still dark out. But I remind myself that my punches are pretty strong and I shouldn’t be worried about anything because I still walk on the main street.
Oh and another thing is that, services and establishments all around me are typically 24hr. This year, almost every cafe and restaurants start operating 24 hours.I reckon with more and more chains entering the city, it’s going to be difficult to compete with such operations. So, that’s why even smaller businesses now are doing 24 hour service which honestly is a great win for me, at least.
There’s a place I like that is also open 24hr. They sell the best matcha in town and it’s one of the most homey and cozy cafes in town. Today, I found out that walking from my place to that cafe takes about 45 minutes. Usually, with a motorbike it only takes around less than 10 minutes. So, that was what I set out to do, a motivation to get that matcha espresso boost in the morning.
When I was at the place, they were still cleaning the window and the main area. There were even some staff members falling asleep on their couch. I got there at around 5:20 which probably surprised them that they have patron early in the morning. Having matcha and espresso that early really helps set the mood of the day. I was wide awake and happy. It was just enough morning boost I needed.
Unlike most days when I go there with my laptop, I was just with my phone and it became a very short visit. I went back home feeling happy and somehow, happier because not only did I fix my sleep but also got a delicious matcha espresso. Oh, and I did that 6000 steps, a pretty significant number considering lately I haven’t had that many walks nor do I even pick the dumbbells I got a few months ago.
6,000 steps is quite a while walking, at least an hour.
Hope you enjoyed the matcha 🍵
Yep, it was around 30 minutes for me 😄
You must walk really fast then😅
Working 6000 steps can be challenging most times for some people but you did it as a form of workout and to get your matcha espresso which shows your determination. The matcha espresso must be very good for it to serve as your source of motivation for the morning
hahaha the matcha espresso is the motivation to get that 6000 steps
I really need to hit that daily
It looks like a quiet place to enjoy and have fresh ideas, a very nice place.
This might just be the motivation I need to start going on early morning walks! I usually go in the evenings, and the roads and always crowded at that time. Plus the cars on the roads, it just makes the walk not so enjoyable.
And about not sleeping, walking actually increases your tendency to sleep better. Because by the time you get back, the body is tired, and so you sleep really well.
I'm curious to know if there are any 24hour facilities around me. Might just go tomorrow and find out.
Well done!
Thank you for sharing dear. I hope I can have that time to walk 6'000 steps.
Six thousand steps is a bit tired but I love walking when you have a coffee after it. This is what me and my husband did, walking then after walking we would enjoyed having a coffee together.
