Walnuts and Pistachios
Some time ago, I spent a quiet time taking these photos. I wanted to enjoy stillness, natural textures, and a bit of light play. I gathered some walnuts and pistachios, and some household decoration items. Together, they created a peaceful frame setup that felt like a little ceremony for the visual exploration.

Starting with the pistachios, we had bag full of raw ones at home and wanted to try cooking them in the oven. Then we placed them on the table in the balcony to cool down. There I noticed they played nice with already existing colors. They added a completely different energy and blended well. Playful, and warm in tone, on the other side contrasted with the blue tones. I placed them near a decoration candle and a small evil eye ashtray, which added a little cultural feeling. I didn’t try to make the scene perfect — I just wanted it to feel calm and honest. A honest exercise for a still life photography.

The walnuts was actually a fictional project. Normally we collect them from the village and crack the shells at home. One day I thought of creating a story of the walnuts. How would it feel being naked and ready to be eaten. So I started gluing the empty shells together to build a wall like background and placing a half open walnut still inside the shell together with the other half being naked standing on the opposite side. They are looking to each other maybe expressing their emotions. I also tried to add a bit of mystery by adding smoke effect. Their forms are so rich and detailed, almost like tiny sculptures. I enjoyed getting close to them with my camera — capturing the folds, the shadows, and the aged shells. Some had small signs of decay or mold, which might seem unpleasant at first, but I found it beautiful, reminding the time maybe. It also reminded me of how natural life includes both freshness and fading, and both can be interesting to look at.
Looking at the photos now, they feel like a diary entry without words. And I believe they express some story of their own...
All the best...
