Analysing Splinterlands Cards – Chain Spinner
Hi all,
Introduction
Another post in this series. Thank you for your support in the previous posts 😊
This series intends to determine if there are other aspects of cards that may contribute to increasing its value. Based on your feedback I can focus on more/other things – so feel free to tell me where you want me to go into further detail.
I include some analysis on where the cards fit in terms of gameplay, strategy, comparison with other cards, and a market analysis of its price. Feel free to suggest what more do you want me to look into in this series, and your support is much appreciated!
In this edition I will be looking at the Chain Spinner.
Gameplay Analysis
Chain Spinner is a Common Life Monster from the Untamed Reward set in Splinterlands. It is a low-cost, defensive tank with Void Armor, making it uniquely durable against both Magic and Physical attacks. This ability allows Magic damage to hit armor first, significantly increasing its survivability against spell-heavy teams.
Mana Cost: 4
Attack Type: Melee
Abilities by Level
Level 1: Void Armor (Magic attacks hit armor instead of health, making it resistant to Magic damage)
Level-Based Insights
Level 1+: Void Armor makes it an excellent counter to Magic-heavy teams, allowing it to absorb spell damage effectively.
Comparative Analysis
How does this card compare to other similar ones?
Vs. Pelacor Conjurer (Life - 2 Mana): Conjurer has Flying and Magic Reflect, which is better against Magic attackers, but Chain Spinner absorbs Magic damage more efficiently with Void Armor.
Vs. Blinding Reflector (Life - 3 Mana): Reflector reflects Magic damage, but Chain Spinner prevents it from reaching health in the first place.
Vs. Shieldbearer (Life - 6 Mana): Shieldbearer has Taunt to absorb damage for the team, while Chain Spinner is cheaper and specifically counters Magic attacks.
Key Takeaway
Chain Spinner is a cheap, defensive tank with Void Armor, making it a strong pick against Magic-heavy teams while still holding its own against physical attacks.
Synergies
Lorna Shine (Life Summoner): Divine Shield ensures it takes no damage on the first hit, improving its tanking ability.
Mother Khala (Life Summoner): Gives +1 health, increasing its overall survivability.
Truthspeaker (Life Support): Provides Protect (+2 Armor), further enhancing its Void Armor effect.
Adelaide Brightwing (Life Support): Restores armor with Repair, keeping Chain Spinner alive longer.
Ruleset Performance
✅ Favorable Rulesets:
Armored Up: Starts with even more armor, making it extremely hard to break through.
Magic Only: Void Armor makes it one of the best low-mana tanks in Magic-only battles.
Equalizer: Its base health isn't high, so Equalizer helps it become a stronger tank.
❌ Challenging Rulesets:
Unprotected: Loses its armor, making Void Armor useless.
Reverse Speed: Moderate speed can be a disadvantage against very slow enemies.
Melee Mayhem: Limited attack power means it won’t be as effective in an all-melee battle.
Market Analysis
Price Overview
Regular Foil: around $ 0.016
Gold Foil: around $ 1.2
Investment Potential
Chain Spinner is a strong budget tank for Life teams, especially in Magic-heavy battles. It is a great addition for players looking for an anti-magic frontline option without spending high mana.
Ratings
Usefulness: 7.5/10 (Great against Magic but lacks versatility in other matchups)
Cost-Effectiveness: 8.5/10 (Low mana, effective Magic counter, and affordable price make it valuable)
Versatility: 6.5/10 (Excels in specific matchups but lacks other abilities to make it an all-around tank)
Conclusion
Chain Spinner is a low-mana, defensive tank that excels in countering Magic attacks with Void Armor. While it lacks additional abilities at higher levels, it remains a solid pick in Magic-heavy metas. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly Magic counter, Chain Spinner is a reliable choice.
