Seoul walking the river Deu/Eng

If you want something quiet and contemplative in Seoul, the best place to go is Cheonggyecheon. This was concreted in in the 1970s and a city highway was built over it. Fortunately, in 2003 the city planners came up with the idea of making Seoul more beautiful and environmentally friendly again.

So the city highway was demolished and the river was exposed again and beautifully renatured. Today there are three differently designed zones and 22 small bridges on the 6-kilometer stretch. In total, the costs amounted to 367 million US dollars and 2 years of construction. And that was really worth it.

Today, the Cheonggyecheon River is a popular spot in downtown Seoul and an oasis of calm. During a walk you will discover, for example, art paintings and colored ceramic tiles on the wall, which bear witness to the great battles of the past. You can also meet many joggers enjoying nature while running. In many places, stones have been embedded in the river bed, so that you can change sides without any problems. Artificially created waterfalls loosen up the picture again and again and invite you to linger a bit on a bench and enjoy the peace and quiet amidst the greenery and the blooming flowers. Just a really great feeling.

Things get really interesting in the evenings when the river is lit up with colorful lights. For many couples it is a popular place for a romantic date, because the mood created by the many colors is really unique. What could be nicer than strolling along here? For the locals in particular, Cheonggyecheon is comparable to Central Park in New York. Although much smaller in size, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the big city for a while and recharge your batteries.

wenn man es in Seoul mal etwas ruhig und beschaulich haben möchte, geht man am besten zum Cheonggyecheon. Dieser wurde in den 70er Jahren einbetoniert und eine Stadtautobahn darüber gebaut. Zum Glück kamen die Stadtplaner 2003 auf die Idee, Seoul wieder schöner und umweltfreundlicher zu machen.

So wurde die Stadtautobahn abgerissen und der Fluß wieder frei gelegt und wunderschön renaturiert. Heute gibt es auf dem 6 Kilometer langen Stück drei verschieden gestaltete Zonen und 22 kleine Brücken. Insgesamt beliefen sich die Kosten auf 367 Millionen US Dollar und 2 Jahre Bauzeit. Und das hat sich so richtig gelohnt.

Heute ist der Cheonggyecheon Fluss ein beliebter Ort im Stadtzentrum Seouls und eine Oase der Ruhe. Bei einem Spaziergang entdeckt man zum Beispiel Kunstgemälde und farbige Keramikkacheln an der Wand die von großen Schlachten der Vergangenheit zeugen. Man trifft auch viele Jogger, die die Natur beim Laufen genießen. An vielen Stellen sind Steine ins Flussbett eingelassen, so dass man ohne Probleme auch einmal die Seite wechseln kann. Auch künstlich angelegte Wasserfälle lockern das Bild immer wieder auf und laden dazu ein ein bißchen auf einer Bank zu verweilen und die Ruhe inmitten des Grün und der blühenden Blumen zu genießen. Einfach ein ganz tolles Gefühl.

Abends wird es richtig interessant, wenn der Fluss mit bunten Lichtern hell erleuchtet wird. Für viele Paare ist es dann ein beliebter Ort für ein romantisches Date, denn die Stimmung die durch die vielen Farben erzeugt wird ist wirklich einmalig. Was kann es schöneres geben als hier entlang zu schlendern? Gerade für die Einheimischen ist der Cheonggyecheon vergleichbar mit dem Central Park in New York. Wenn auch von der Größe her weitaus kleiner, kann man hier dem Großstadttrubel für einige Zeit entfliehen und seine Akkus wieder aufladen.
