London is calling! Deu/Eng

Hello dear community,
After our Korean vacation ended in May/June, we went on a weekend trip to London in July. From Friday to Sunday we wanted to see a lot of things and, above all, explore what has changed since our last visit in more than 30 years.

We arrived at the city airport early in the morning and took a train downtown to our Premier Inn hotel. I can only recommend this hotel chain. Very cheap but very good and a really great breakfast. It is now also available in larger cities in Germany. The hotel was directly opposite the St. Pancras tube station and the St. Pancras posh hotel. A great old building that you should see from the inside.

First on the program was a bus hop on hop off tour. Simply the best way to get to the sights you want to see anywhere. And on the journey there you also see the ones that you hadn't even noticed. And all of this was open air and with an audio guide, which was really very interesting.

Of course, we then extensively visited the area around the London Eye (Ferris wheel) and Big Ben including the Houses of Parliament. Everything was very impressive, of course, but what I liked most was the small park next to it. With all the statues of famous English people, especially Winston Churchill. Of course, it's also very funny when, like in one picture, a pigeon makes itself comfortable in the middle of the head of someone who has long died. What would he have said about that?

On the first day we really saw a lot on the bus ride and we weren't finished yet. Next on our agenda was Westminster Abbey, which we wanted to visit from the inside. Luckily we had pre-booked this online because the queue was really long. But more on that in a separate post.

nachdem nun also unser Koreaurlaub mi Mai/Juni beendet war, begaben wir uns im Juli auf einen Wochenendtrip nach London. Von Freitag bis Sonntag wollten wir vieles anschauen und vor allem erkunden, was sich so verändert hat seit unserem letzten Besuch von mehr als 30 Jahren.

Früh morgens kamen wir am Cityairport an und nahmen einen Zug in die Innenstadt zu unserem Premier Inn Hotel. Diese Hotelkette kann ich nur weiterempfehlen. Sehr günstig aber sehr gut und ein ganz tolles Frühstück. Gibts mittlerweile auch in Deutschland in größeren Städten. Das Hotel war direkt gegenüber der St. Pancras U-Bahnstation bzw. dem St. Pancras Nobelhotel. Ein toller alter Bau den man auch mal von innen gesehen haben sollte.

Als erstes stand eine Bus Hop On Hop Off Tour auf dem Programm. Einfach der beste Weg überall zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten zu kommen, die man gerne sehen möchte. Und auf der Fahrt dahin sieht man auch die, die man überhaupt nicht auf dem Schirm hatte. Und das alles noch open air und mit Audio Guide, der wirklich sehr interessant war.

Natürlich besichtigten wir sodann ausgiebig den Bereich um das London Eye ( Riesenrad ) und den Big Ben mitsamt Houses of Parliament. Alles natürlich sehr beeindruckend aber am meisten hat mir der kleine Park daneben gefallen. Mit den ganzen Statuen berühmter Engländer, allen voran natürlich Winston Churchill. Sehr witzig ist es natürlich auch, wenn sich wie auf dem einen Bild eine Taube mitten auf dem Kopf eines lange verstorbenen gemütlich macht. Was der wohl dazu gesagt hätte?

Für den ersten Tag haben wir durch die Busfahrt wirklich viel gesehen und waren ja auch noch nicht fertig. Als nächstes stand auf unserem Programm die Westminster Abbey, die wir dann auch von innen besichtigen wollten. Zum Glück hatten wir dies online vorgebucht, denn die Schlange davor war wirklich lang. Aber dazu mehr in einem eigenen Post.
