An Afternoon Walk to Japan's Historic Naritasan Shinshoji Temple

Did you know that Narita renowned as the site of Japan's international airport is also a sightseeing destination? It boasts among other things, an interesting and historic Buddhist hall complex with temples dating back to the 940s.
Today curiosity led us to pay a visit to the Naritasan Shinshoji Temple.
The Way to the Temple
An interesting and fun way to get to Naritasan is to take a walk along Omotesando Street. It is lined on both sides with shops and stalls selling snacks, trinkets, and souvenir items and leads all the way to the temple. One can spend a while shopping or just admiring the beautiful trinkets and the shop’s decorations. There are also numerous restaurants along the stretch of the street.
We just passed by the restaurants and have a quick browse in the shops. We planned to buy something on our way back to our hotel. We were eager to get to the temple.
Naritasan Shinshoji Temple’s Two Gates
There are two wooden gates to enter the temple. The first gate is called the Somon Gate and is about 15 feet high and the eaves are ornately designed with gold.
There are small buildings on both sides of the entrance complex.
From the gate, is a pathway with stone lanterns and sculptures that leads up to the smaller gate.
Going up the steep stairs from the pathway is the smaller gate called Niomon. The huge red lantern hanging from its ceiling is a gift offering from the businessmen of a local fish market.
The Three-Storied Pagoda
Another staircase leads to higher ground and opens to a wide plaza where on the right side is the Three-Storied Pagoda. The eaves and underneath are beautifully and ornately decorated.
After exploring the grounds we went back to Omotesando to buy souvenirs and snacks and also have an early dinner. The shops were already closed, we didn’t know that they close at 4 pm on weekdays. We got lucky though that one restaurant that was just about to close its doors took us in. We had a delicious dinner of our favorite sushi, sashimi, and tempura.
I would love to visit Japan someday and put this beautiful place on the list of places to visit there.

Interesting tour, Japan is rich in culture, beautiful photos illustrate this tour, a whole experience that you share today, I like what I see, they close at 4.00 p.m. stores, a novelty for me, long live the sishi and more if we taste it in Japan.
