Senior citizen street

Hi, everyone! Good morning to all my wonderful friends here on Hive. It's another Monday.

How has your weekend been? I usually go jogging on weekends. Not sure if I sprained the muscle behind my shoulder. I've been working out for as long as I can remember. During weekdays, I usually do strength training in one of the rooms in my house.

Just a bit of what I did during the weekend, then I am going to bring you on a tour of the oldest part of the city.

This month's total distance is 24.4 km. I used to jog a lot more, averaging 7 to 8 km per run. But nowadays, due to work and getting older, I still jog but only manage around 5 to 6 km and ocassionally 7 to 8 km.

Just to keep myself fit enough to stay healthy. I still have good blood pressure readings, averaging at 115 / 85.

One of my other hobbies nowadays is gardening.

Recently, got this new plant.

A bonsai.

SENIOR CITIZEN STREET MIRI

This is the legendary place that the government has preserved. This area was where it all started. Miri used to be a small fishing village until oil was found in 1910. Progress has been rather rapid in the coming few years.

This street perfectly preserved the local legacy.

The people who are still here are mostly senior citizens who were once young.

Shops in the eighties used to look like this. Everything in one shop. Everything together. You had to go in to find what you want. Such a great pleasure to still see this place. There are many vintage shops here. Many of the owners here have passed away. There are still senior citizens hanging here playing mah jong, chess, and just chatting about their past years.

Old friends meeting for tea, and chat. 11 89 Hair and Beauty House Unisex Saloon

Such a vintage place. I did not visit the saloon. Maybe in the future, I should do that. Just to preserve the legacy of the place in case it disappears one day.

This is the perfect place for the seniors to hang out and feel some form of community. These days, with so much modern technology and newer modern architecture. It's hard for them to blend in. Some older folks have never adapted to using the ATM machine nor the use of E wallets. They still prefer to use cash.

Nowadays, there is a roof at the top to shelter from all sorts of rain and sun. Fans have been installed to cool down the area.

This is one of the last remaining areas here in Miri where you get to socialize with the owners.

ING KONG DRUG STORE

Not the illegal drugs, but Chinese Medicine. The owner has one eye that is blind. He's already in his 80s and still working hard. I see him all the time here. None of his kids want to take over his business.

I got myself a plate of Chicken rice here at one of the restaurants.

A perfect meal for the afternoon. It's a sad reality of life and we get older as the days pass, and the only things that one day remain are the memories of our life. I wonder at times if one day I am sixty, do I still remember things that have occured during my teenage years.

Sitting here on my des,k writing this while listening to classic music.

Have a wonderful Monday, all my wonderful days.
