Kowloon Walled City Park

Walking back in time.

This is a tour of Kowloon Walled City Park. Now it is a nice park.

Before arriving in Hong Kong, I did some research before coming here to this park. I watched some documentaries about Kowloon Walled City.

And here I am in person.

At the moment, there is an exhibit here that is free, but you need to get tickets, and you are only allowed 20 minutes. But you can come here as many times as you want.

The replica of the old Kowloon Walled City that was on this site before its demolition in 1995.

The original aerial view. Does it look similar to the model in the first picture?

Imagine it still exists today, and you were to walk into it.

Despite it being a lawless place, crime rate was not rampant as one would imagine.

An area dedicated to remembering the old Kowloon Walled City.

A capsule machine.

This was what I loved to have in the past. Everything is to detail.

I think this is an ice cream bike. The ice cream man rides around the cramp alleys of the maze like Kowloon City Wall.

I read in an article that this place did not have any lot number, and most postmen or anyone who navigated in the Kowloon walled city had to memorize all the different areas.

A shop that you can get comic books.

A small stall here is selling drinks.

Drinks used to come in glass bottles like these.

Imagine walking into this shop as a kid during the time when there were no other entertainment.

This would have been such a treat. I remember my grandfather who told me that his happiest moment was when he got a new pair of trousers.

This is the doctor. My wife is in her traditional Chinese dress. Suits this era.

At a restaurant in the past.

Imagine your the owner of a restaurant here, this would what it would have looked like. An abacus for calculating, the messy table top. This was the typical

Cha Chaan Teng (茶餐廳)

A place where you have to visit where the chef is personal. He is the cook, he's the owner and he could have been the waiter too. Imagine that.

The table top would have looked something like this.

This is a replica of the sets in the movie Twilight Warrior Walled in that showcases some bits of life in this city. But, from my view, they have taken a lot of effort to collect everything displayed here.

大井好姐魚蛋: Dai Jing Hao Jie Fish Balls

This shop makes fish balls.

It also has stained walls to replicate years of ageing.

This is the first part of this whole journey.

How beautiful it is to see what the past holds. Twenty minutes feels far too short, especially when you’re truly enjoying and taking in all the exhibits on display.
